    I love how he takes a few seconds to realise what's happened with the dining room door and then jumps back when it hits him.

    This is one of the best scenes from Fawlty Towers for me.

    "Well whose fault _is_ it then, ya cloth-eared bint? _Denis Compton's??!!"_
    According to John Cleese, that is the favourite line of both Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie across all 12 episodes! 😆😆

      I had to look up Denis Compton. Pretty sure he wasn't in Torquay when that happened.😂

    No one realised when Basil dragged Polly by the ear, Connie’s American accent came out spontaneously

    With all the over the top yelling and histrionics, its a wonder Cleese didn't have an aneurysm in scenes like this one and where he gives the reluctant mini Cooper "a sound thrashing!"

    The girl who plays Polly is American right? Her British accent is very understated and accurate

      Yep, Connie Booth was married to John Cleese at the time and co-created and wrote the show with him (at least the first season, they divorced before the second).

      It's just absolutely classic how no one is complaining about this skit but, look, here you are rushing to mock something that hasn't happened. It's just you bringing it up, trying to be clever.

    political correctness has killed comedy, these were the good old days when people were allowed to have fun

    • @KingRidley
      @KingRidley Před 2 lety +11

      Comedians are still allowed to have fun today, man. People still enjoy the older material but we already made it, we don't need to keep doing the same jokes and humor forever. And it's an added bonus if we can do new jokes without necessarily denigrating huge swathes of the population in the process. It's just culture moving forward.

      @@UserjdjddssYeah, because the "comedy" is shit.
      Comedy used to be a way to highlight social issues, political problems, societal knacks. Sometimes it was just funny for the sake of it.
      Nowadays it’s people like Dave Chapelle standing on a stage in a hideous suit reciting jokes where the punchline is "I was black" or "haha, trans person".
      That’s not comedy, it’s crap. Damn straight they get cancelled for it. But it’s not because of PoLiTiCaL cOrReCtNeSs.
