One thing India has going for it is that unlike a lot of other countries you can get around speaking english almost everywhere. Also generally Indian people are helpful.

Handcrafted things dont charge a lot of money in India like in other countries (where they add more money to its value on a daily basis though) so always know that they are cheaper. As craftsmen of India make good quality products that are made in India and very inexpensive and affordable to the people. You shouldn't have paid like 3500 on such a small shop 😔

Max, I came to this video 8 months after you uploaded it. I grew up in Lajpat Nagar in the 70s and 80s but live in Colorado now. You brought back lots of memories. A small history lesson might add some context for you and your viewers. Lajpat Nagar was created to settle thousands of refugee families that came from Pakistan in 1947 after the Partition of India into India and Pakistan. I grew up around kids who spoke all kinds of languages from Pakistan including Balochi, Sindhi, Mirpuri etc. The reason you see a whole bunch of dry fruit stores is that the people who moved to the area were involved in that business even when they lived in Pakistan. This is their family business and specialty, and dry fruits back in the day used to come from middle east, Afghanistan, Iran etc. So traders in what is now present day Pakistan were expert purveyors of these products more so than folks who lived in what we now know as India. The huge Afghan presence started as a trickle in the 80s, during the Soviet invasion and war on Afghanistan. They came to Lajpat Nagar because it was comfortable for them. In a neighborhood filled with former immigrants from Pakistan, the new refugees from Afghanistan felt at home. I am proud of how much of a melting pot this area is, and I credit this part of my upbringing with allowing to be comfortable no matter where I go in the world. Hello max! First of all love from India. I would suggest you to bargain with shopkeepers who try to price you higher, when they see people from outside the country their prices change accordingly. Also better if you take any Native with you from that city/state. They'll help you with these things. You can also ask people (the other native customers around) about the price of a product.

Lajpat Nagar was created to settle thousands of refugee families that came from Pakistan in 1947 after the Partition of India into India and Pakistan. I grew up around kids who spoke all kinds of languages from Pakistan including Balochi, Sindhi, Mirpuri etc. The reason you see a whole bunch of dry fruit stores is that the people who moved to the area were involved in that business even when they lived in Pakistan. This is their family business and specialty, and dry fruits back in the day used to come from middle east, Afghanistan, Iran etc. So traders in what is now present day Pakistan were expert purveyors of these products more so than folks who lived in what we now know as India. The huge Afghan presence started as a trickle in the 80s, during the Soviet invasion and war on Afghanistan. They came to Lajpat Nagar because it was comfortable for them. In a neighborhood filled with former immigrants from Pakistan, the new refugees from Afghanistan felt at home. I am proud of how much of a melting pot this area is, and I credit this part of my upbringing with allowing to be comfortable no matter where I go in the world. Also better if you take any Native with you from that city/state. They'll help you with these things. You can also ask people (the other native customers around) about the price of a product.
