The reason why the secondhand iPhones are so expensive is because they are heavily taxated by the customs, and since most of them are not locally produced, the cost of imports add to that factor. It's much cheaper to buy iPhones in Batam, you'll get price similar to how much they would sell in America.

iPhones in Indonesia are very expensive because they are registered at Indonesian customs, if they are not registered at customs. You will not be able to access the internet in Indonesia, there is only WiFi. But if you take it outside Indonesia, it's still possible

Hi Max, I just watched this video. Markets like malls in Indonesia are very depressing now because they are losing out to online sales (that's why you see scooter seller doing live streaming or Nintendo seller packing for online sales). This has gotten worse since the pandemic. Also, if you go to Mangga Dua Square, this place is never busy, even before the pandemic. The busy place was Mangga 2 Mall or Mangga Dua Pasar Pagi. It's in a different building from the one you visited. Those places are livelier but still quiet.

What you must visit if you are in Indonesia is the city of Cirebon, especially East Cirebon. You can visit Alun Alun Ciledug which has lots of games and food. Swipe you can visit AJIMUT Hill in Waled Bukit District which is very beautiful. Swipe again and you can go to Baro Beach, Gebang District. There is a very beautiful beach, East Cirebon 250 KM from Jakarta. You can take the train from Senen Station and immediately get off at Ciledug Cirebon Station. Train to Jogyakarta...! There are many hotels and accommodation available in Ciledug, Cirebon...!
