Saladin was truly one of a kind. A military genius to start. A scholar. He is due so much more respect. Saladin is the type of rare individual in history that earned respect from everyone and for good reason. Truly remarkable. I may just be an ignorant American, but i think it's important to recognize important figures such as Saladin. Regardless of our differences, we should at least be able to appreciate this amazing figure together. Much love friends.

And he was merciful, a rare quality today and just think about how rare this was at those ancient times. Differently from most military and political leaders (including many Crusaders like Richard Lionhearth), Saladin didn't indulged in massacres of civilian people or those that surrendered, for example. Neither aimed to exterminate an entire different population/culture, granting Christians and Jews religious, economic, and political freedom (in some degree) in a way better manner than what Crusader leaders did.

I do not wish to talk in depth about the relation of France with Islam for I do not want to have conflict with anyone here. Whatever your opinion or belief is on the crusades and the crusader kingdoms, let us put aside our differences and share admiration for the greatness of one man, admired by his own but also by his enemies. Saladin deserves his honorable titles, as he and his deeds are great.

As far as Fatimids are concerned, they were incapable rulers who were busy in alcohlism, adultry and other things of pleasure. As a Christian without bias, I'd love you to do a story of the first 3 Rashidun Abū Bakr as-Șiddīq, Omar ibn Al-Khattab, and Uthman ibn Affan. They are called the rightly guided for a good reason. Especially Omar who was also always fair in his dealings and never warred for the sake of warring. More people of all religions should watch and hear stories like these so that the Muslims stop thinking that everyone believes they are extremists and the extremists stop acting in such manner. Then the Christians tolerate more.

“Women and children together came to 8,000 and were quickly divided up among us, bringing a smile to Muslim faces at their lamentations. How many well-guarded women were profaned, how many queens were ruled, and nubile girls married, and noble women given away, and miserly women forced to yield themselves, and women who had been kept hidden stripped of their modesty, and serious women made ridiculous, and women kept in private now set in public, and free women occupied, and precious ones used for hard work, and pretty things put to the test, and virgins dishonoured and proud women deflowered, and lovely women’s red lips kissed, and dark women prostrated, and untamed ones tamed, and happy ones made to weep! How many noblemen took them as concubines, how many ardent men blazed for one of them, and celibates were satisfied by them, and thirsty men sated by them, and turbulent men able to give vent to their passion. How many lovely women were the exclusive property of one man, how many great ladies were sold at low prices, and close ones set at a distance, and lofty ones abased, and savage ones captured, and those accustomed to thrones dragged down!”

As for his house, it was very modest. Salah al-Din spent all his time among his soldiers in his camp. One day, he saw at his table with his generals two crusader knights, so he asked his men how these two appeared here They answered him, they came to the camp and told the camp guards that they wanted to have lunch with Saladin, so the guards allowed them to enter because the guards know that you, Saladin, will not prevent them from eating at your table. Salah al-Din was pleased and amazed at the people's confidence in him even among his Crusader enemies. He did not object to the behavior of the guard nor to the behavior of the knights. The historians of the Crusades, the Muslims and the Franks, tell beautiful stories about Saladin, for he was very merciful to his soldiers and his enemies as well . King Richard's horse was killed in the battle and almost captured, so Salah al-Din immediately sent him a gift horse led by a Muslim soldier telling the Muslims to stay away from the king, stay away from the king. And the horse handed him over, Salah al-Din used to send the prisoners to their families after he had sworn them on the cross not to fight him.

Khalid, by now, was at the height of his career, he was famous and loved by his men, for the Muslim community he was a national hero,[111] and was publicly known as Sayf-ullah ("Sword of Allah"). An event happened shortly after Khalid's capture of Marash (Kahramanmaraş), in the autumn of 638, he came to know of Ash'as, a famous poet and warrior on Persian front, reciting a poem in praise of Khalid and receiving a gift of 10,000 dirhams from him, apparently from the state treasury.[112]
      expansion of rashidun caliphate.
      Expansion of Rashidun Caliphate
Umar and his senate identified this act as misuse of state treasure, though not as punishing as to lose one's office, Khalid was already warned not to act alone, he should seek permission from his commander or Caliph for such actions. He immediately wrote a letter to Abu Ubaidah asking him to bring Khalid in front of the congregation, his turban, and take off his cap. Umar wanted Abu Ubaida to ask Khalid from what funds he gave to Ash'as: from his own pocket or from the state treasury? If he confessed to having used the spoils, he was guilty of misappropriation.[113] If he claimed that he gave from his own pocket, he was guilty of extravagance. In either case he would be dismissed, and Abu Ubaida would take charge of his duties. Abu Ubaida was himself an admirer of Khalid and loved him as his younger brother,[114] and so said that he was not capable of doing it. Instead, Bilal ibn Ribah was appointed for this task and called back Khalid from Chalcis to Emessa, where he was charged publicly.[115] Khalid stated that he gave money from his own pocket and thus was declared innocent in that charge. However, when he went to Abu Ubaida, he told him that he had been dismissed on the order of Umar and is required to go back to Medina.[116] Khalid went to Chalcis and said farewell to his mobile guard. He then went to Medina to meet Umar. He protested about what he considered to be injustice. Umar is said to have praised him in these words: "You have done; And no man has done as you have done. But it is not people who do; It is Allah who does..."[117]
Later Umar explained his dismissal of Khalid:
I have not dismissed Khalid because of my anger or because of any dishonesty on his part, but because people glorified him and were misled. I feared that people would rely on him. I want them to know that it is Allah who gives us victory; and there should be no mischief in the land.[118]

Believe it or not but most stuff online are now more civil and less untoxic than they used to be since the recession years. In those days it was a lot more hostile and people ranting at each other shouting jingoistic insults over even the most petty stuff than now. It is not all gone but far from what it used to be. The main cause of it was the Great Recession and people reeling from the Iraq and Afghanistan being still new. Everyone was insecure and the bottom gutter trash of society had no jobs at the time so they vented their anger online by shouting bigotry. Wait until we have another great economic and world crisis and you'll see it flare up again. However don't be surprised if it is not as severe like in the past. Most people remember how awful the toxicity was from the Recession period of everyone being so high tense it was inflaming the situation because no one wanted to talk to each other online. Next time more people will have some stigma about being like those people in the past because they want to avoid it again.

As a non muslim, I respect him for his military and intellectual qualities, but even more so for his morals and compassion towards people. For many other great conquerers I have a lot less respect when their only focus is on conquest at all costs, but Saladin was also able to bring stability and prosperity to the muslim world and was honorable even to his enemies. I think that in the bigger picture is more important then mere conquest, as many empires tend to fall apart when they focus merely on expansion. I think a great leader is someone who has a long term perspective towards the future, and from what I have read I do believe he was that kind of man.

Japan rescued the Turks thrown into the sea. Japan treated the injured many Turks who were saved. The Japanese gave the Turkish a warm meal every day. Many of them were Muslim. The Japanese gave the Turkish a place to sleep. The Turkish injury has healed. And Japan sent the survivors of the Turks safely to the Ottoman Empire.
