I was stationed at SRF Subic Bay from 11/20/1978 to 3/30/1981. It was the very Best duty station in the entire U.S.Navy.

Christopher O'Rourke I was in and out of there a few times while you were stationed there. I just ran across this video today, and your story. I hope that you have added much happiness to your life since this last post. As for myself, I live in Thailand. Peace.
I also live here full time now, I was in Subic on Wespac back in Sept and Nov of 85 we were so lucky back then it was basically a liberty port for us the country was not at war so there was nothing to do, we went out once in 60 days to a Mortar Shoot and the rest of the time in port was liberty, I also married an awesome Filipina Lady and we are living a great life here in Northern Manila, thanks to you guys that had cameras back then and shot pics and videos it was not as easy back then as it is now.
I was on West Pac '85 (August - December) aboard the USS Cleveland LPD-7 with BLT 1/9, 13th MAU. Great years!!!! I lived in the Subic/Olongapo City area from 2012-2014. Sadly, as you know by living there now, with the Base no longer there, the place isn't the same.
I was stationed in Okinawa with VP-44 and visited Cubi Point regularly from 1978-1979 flying Anti Sub missions in the South China Sea, somethings never change. It was Marshal Law then with MP's everywhere..took many a trikeney/jeepney rides..Anyone remember the Riza hotel at the end of the strip? No available on base quarters so they sent us out to live in town. Stayed a Riza hotel and commuted in by jeepney every morning and evening for 3 months. How about Club JOLO...lot of absolutely wild and crazy things in there and the bands that played on that strip were unbelievable. Thanks Ray Congrove for this awesome video.
The best time for the Philippines, the best time for the USA (forget the Vietnam desaster) maybe even the best time for the world. I am thankful i could spend my young years there (Far East) in the 70s-80s ,when life was wonderful and full of adventures. Recall crossing "Shit River" to get to the base and local kids swimming in river and don't forget the smell. Walking down the street and hearing "Hey Joe gimme peso". Peso special Jeepney rides. Saw a lot of entertainment in the bars most x-rated. Viet Nam war was raging. Ration cards, Black Market. Election time was more of who lived through the campaign. It was an amazing duty station....an experience I will never forget.

She wanted me to go to the Island she grew up on and start a family . Although I was crazy about her , I knew I would never go A. W. O. L. I was dedicated to the Corps ! SEMPER FI !
Gray video. I was there this weekend. S&R mall at the foot of the bridge which is now closed. The city feels the same but seems much cleaner. They also enforce traffic laws there like in the US as I found out Sat. Police asked if I was a sailor and when I explained why I returned he gave me a fist bump and said carry on. I hope you made it back.. I did and never returning to the US.
Was at the NAS Cubi Point Medical Clinic from December 1975 to mid 1977, brought my light blue 1974 Volkswagen Karman Ghia that I bought while in San Diego for $6000.00 with me and had a blast riding all around the area. Was hoping to get extended so held off making arrangements for it. Unfortunately did not get the extension so had to get rid of it in a hurry, local business lady offered me $7000.00 but did not have enough time to do the paperwork in order to sell to a local national. Finally sold it to a First Class (I think) who worked for NIS (now NCIS) for what I bought it for $6000,00.
Anybody remember the game "smile" ????? UIse to play it in subic city.Damn them old guys that had made several west-pacs were damn good at that game. Had to quit playing lol couldnt afford it after awhile i was terrible at it as an 18 yr old kid

A place I remember from my youth, when I was a seaman aboard the USS Parsons (DDG 33). We picked up a boatload of Vietnamese refugees on our way back from an IO deployment and dropped them off here. Always wondered what became of them. Memories of that place and the fun I had there whenever our ship made a port stop there continue to haunt me to this day. Thank You, Lord, that You are merciful and forgive us the sins of our youth.

Beautiful Fillipinas , San Miguel beer , and Mardi Gras . I fell for a Filipina girl who I lived with for a good part of February 1981 . She wanted me to go to the Island she grew up on and start a family . Although I was crazy about her , I knew I would never go A. W. O. L. I was dedicated to the Corps ! SEMPER FI !
2:14, good thing this video isn't in 4-D, that river was stank af!
..Many fond memories: The Sierra Club, Green Apple, Florida Club, Miss Winnies open air bar, etc etc. Semper Fi..!
I did and never returning to the US.
ty for the post great memories
NMCB6-62 in 88-89 what a blast we had, cool place and cool people...not a place to get sober...great times
NMCB 78-83 in the Philippines 82,83.

Nice video finally some views from the old days, was at cubi point 87 and 88 USMC. Finally married a filipina in 2007 guess you never quite get over them.
I hear ya there that was good times!
I was stationed here then!
