Right on! Drove the 2001 4matic west last summer. Those W210s own the interstates at 80 mph, V-6 purrs silently at 2800 rpm in 5th gear, 27 mpg, impressive all wheel torque at high speeds, smooth as silk, and so quiet you have to look at the tachometer when parked to tell if its running! Just before hitting KC, MO, high fived another E320, slightly more beat up than mine, passing at 90 mph. Those cars do everything well with grace and assurance. Cruise control stays precisely at 79 mph, beat out every speed trap, and for the first time with any car since a short fling in a '62 Austin Healy, I can stand up straight after a long day's ride! Just an amazing car in the grand tradition. The best or nothing!
I just picked up a W210 E430 that lived most of its life in Southern California and had a great service history. I have a W211 E55 also and I pick the W210 almost every time I leave the house now and I love it more and more every time I drive it. There is nothing like the smell of an old German car and the quality ‘thump’ when you close the door that just can’t be matched by any new car today.
I considered W211 but almost every commenter said W211 was not the same as W210. W210 is the last truly great Merc. I am now the happy owner of a 99 E430 that has lived its entire life in So Cal.
Lucky owner here-- 2001 E430 that now has 138K miles, bought just at the start of COVId from original owner (90 pound--optimistic guess-- senior citizen who, with hubby had $250K worth of MB's in their 3-car garage. The E430 was being sold due to a new E55 for her, needing the 3rd garage space.) The included service records documented 100% dealer visits- and several receipts had penned in notes like "scratched RR wheel --TC quoted $465 replace- authorized by Bill". .. "clock pixels scrambled....replace, per TC Bill" , etc. etc. Best used car ever--a $3950 buy-- I've loved every drive since buying it- even the leather looks new. Bank vault solid.. smooth as silk....Seems bullet-proof!

i bought my first S210(wagon) in 2000 it was a pre-face lifting model E300 177 hp turbo, then i owned other 3, now i drive a E320 Cdi wagon with 440.000 km, and, a E320 6V wagon 4 matic with 265.000 miles, i hardly find a car i love like W210...i would drive these forever
Actually most cars from 1995-2005 has rust issues at least now after 20-30 yrs, but most other cars from that era is already long gone. I would choose mercedes visible body rust everyday over japanese cars rusting from underneath in vital parts of the chassies. I would say they stand strong as most competition falls off . And btw, the m112 engine based on m113 is one of the most reliable gasoline engines ever built but if you just gas and go for 20+ years they will fade as any engine would. Maintain them properly and they just keep on going.
I also have a car like this, the rival of the E class, lexus gs430 S160 from 2001, people tell me why do you drive such an old car? my answer is, because it is better than many new cars and because it makes me happy: D

I have an 01 e320 AMG sport. It gets terrible mileage but the engine purrs like a kitten. I have had it for about three and a half years and have had to do very little maintenance on it. Love it. Some plastic is broken inside and some things don't work. I am to old now to work on it much so have to pay to fix some things. The engine roars when I step on the gas!
Disagree about the facelift cars being better. They are about the same overall. I had a 1996 E320 (pre-facelift) and a 2001 E320. I got to directly compare them for about 10 years. In the end I preferred the 1996 because the inline 6 engine had a lot of character and pulled much more smoothly and linearly than the newer V6.
This car is my baby and a beast in the snow!!. I have a black 4matic version 2002 which I believe was the last year of the w210s it has about 155,000 on it .. I've only ever had what I call minor issues on things that after almost 20 years obviously need replacing in ANY vehicle.. Never engine issues expect bad Sunoco Gas in PA.. Only use Premium fuel in this model like it "Says" on the dash board yet alot of people still put regular in it and let me tell you from experience..You will absolutely F this car up doing that maybe the new mercedes you can get away with using regular and even thats bad for new cars that clearly say (PREMIUM ONLY), but DO NOT put regular in an older mercedes like this it will make your engine get ready to jump out of the hood its scary.. I purchased bad cheap gas one time on a trip out of state and I thought my car was going to break down I have never felt a benz drive the way mine did with bad gas.. Thank God I burned the bad gas out and she went back to normal like nothing ever happened.. Maybe thats why my car has lasted as long as it has because I take servicing the car very SERIOUSLY being the second owner of the car and the previous owner took it seriously too thankgod.. Benz is expensive to fix even older ones so treat your benz with LOVE and she'll be reliable for years to come.. Don't go out and buy a benz to neglect the maintaince of it then complain they are horrible cars when majority of the time its actually the owners who cut corners with cheap gas, neglecting repairs, and other issues that cause their cars to break down quickly.. If You ain't got the time or money don't bother with a benz its a luxury car and needs to be serviced and treated as one these aren't hondas and toyotas yet I see alot of benz owners treating their cars as such then wonder why its running like 💩 and giving them issues..
I could not agree more about the importance of service and good fuel. I just bought a W210 E430 that was well maintained and family owned but the last owner was gifted the car and was not savvy on the care and feeding of an old Mercedes and I saw a few quicky-lube oil changes on the Carfax so I bet they were not using good fuel in it and it ran very rough when it arrived. I did an oil flush with Liqui-Moly and a tank full of 93 octane with a can of fuel system cleaner and it runs like a sewing machine now. I have a W211 E55 AMG and the E430 and I do all my own work or I would not be able to own and enjoy these cars. Parts are surprisingly cheap (especially the W210) and I use FCP Euro for most of my important jobs to take advantage of their lifetime warranty but RockAuto and parts geek have just about every W210 part known to man if you want to find bargains and these cars are very simple mechanically speaking.
Mine looks almost EXACTLY like that but black interior, and yes there's RUST I have to deal with. But for a 20yr old car I love driving it! I love the level of luxury for it's age, compared to same year BMW's or Audi's. It's as smooth as some expensive brand new cars. My Nissan has worse rust, but that's the work horse lol. It was 50K USD in 2000 (in 2000 dollars) and now we can get decent ones for 2K to 7K USD.
I'm 75 years old and have other newer more fancy Mercedes. But I just bought a 1998 E430 with 73k miles on it when I took my 2016 GL (equipped with every bell and whistle) in for service with about the same miles. It has some clear coat problems and, heaven forbid, the 25 year old headline is coming loose at the edges. But it still drives like the real thing, the leather looks good and the seats are still firm, and the Bose speakers are great for tunes from any year. For $5k how could you not think it was a great buy. Next week I'll drive it 400 miles while my pristine 2003 SL500 sits in in the garage. Maybe they'll bury me in the E; it probably cheaper now than a coffin.
my father used to have the w210 e280. it was a year 2000 model so it came with the m112 v6 engine. it was one hell of a car if only we had the means to upkeep it. he sold it just after 1 and a half years and now we own two W211 E240. ye i know kind of a downgrade in terms of engine output but well i still miss the w210 till this day and the w210 does have lots of plus points over the w211.

"it's all broken, but it's good"😂. jokes aside, I just bought 2001 w210 e430 from California with 61000 miles on it. No rust, engine and tranny works perfectly. Many plastic/foamy/rubber parts are dried up; they became fragile and can easily break: it's a downside of buying a car from the hot climate. If anyone interested, this car costed me 6500 usd. Already put 3k in it though: tires, breaks, spark plugs, a/c service, EVAP purge valve, rear window regulator, a 2din car play/android auto kenwood stereo. It's a pleasure to drive, but it's not a cheap car to maintain properly

The W210 has a really bad reputation coz it came after the legendary W124 and did have some flaws, But you can pick one up in Europe from 1000 euros on in decent condition if you look around, May be I´ll give it a try.
Mercedes had serious rust problem in all their models circa 1993-2003.That is why the w210 is not a legendary Mercedes model.as it deserves to be.Better car in everyway than w124,and finest MB have ever made.I´ve owned one for 8 years,and the repair costs in total have been about 600 euros/dollars... suspension parts mainly.I can´t figure out why everybodys saying these are expensive cars to fix..on the contrary! Unless you use the dealer.

The W210 has a really bad reputation coz it came after the legendary W124 and did have some flaws, But you can pick one up in Europe from 1000 euros on in decent condition if you look around, May be I´ll give it a try.

@@snggarageeng actually, there are hundreds of w210 even with 500€ here in Europe.
Mercedes had serious rust problem in all their models circa 1993-2003.That is why the w210 is not a legendary Mercedes model.as it deserves to be.Better car in everyway than w124,and finest MB have ever made.I´ve owned one for 8 years,and the repair costs in total have been about 600 euros/dollars... suspension parts mainly.I can´t figure out why everybodys saying these are expensive cars to fix..on the contrary! Unless you use the dealer.
