I met Norman a few times as I also lived in the Isle of Man. When I was 7 I approached him at a village fete and asked him for an autograph and he said "is this for your nan?" and I said it was for me because I thought he was great and he said "do you remember me?" and I said "yes Ive seen all your 60's films" and he said "you look good for your age!" Then he asked me what my fave film was and fave line, I did the "Mr Grimsdale" shout and he laughed. Then as he walked away, he tripped over and turned around to point at me and blame me for tripping him. Amazing & lovely man!
That’s a lovely story Amy, thanks for sharing. My kids knew who Norman was, spent many many wonderful Sundays watching him, I know all their friends never knew who he was unless they came for Sunday lunch to ours. They went away delighted at what they had watched and to this day they all love Norman Wisdom who made falling look so easy! Thanks Mr Wisdom you have and still are giving us so many hours of happiness and laughter till we cried. R IP❤
In the tv documentary on his dementia just before he died his children treated him in the most abominable way when he was diagnosed with dementia. Only his daughter-in-law comes out of it with any credit, a lovely lady. I was particularly shocked at the attitude & cruel jibes he endured from his daughter, a hard woman with no patience who didn't even try to understand his condition. My own father died from dementia so I have first hand experience of the illness.
Norman was a very special man. Despite his neglectful childhood, he stepped up and made a difference to many. That is having a life. He was loved by so many. Such talent, wonderful voice, and would always make you smile. He has resourcefulness by the bagful.
I have lovely childhood memories of Norman. Didn't realise how hard a life he'd had - even more credit for him to achieve what he did making people happy.
What a very extraordinary man Norman was, may he be a shining beacon , he had no love as a child from his father, a disrupted family, no base line yet he survived and was all the stronger and more loving for it. Most folk would have gone under with the rejection he had suffered but here is proof of goodness and determination and self worth, Norman you are a star and shine down from the heavens. A truly great human.
My boyfriend was building a solitary wall in the car park of the Number 73 tv studios when Mr. Wisdom arrived with his acquaintances. My Boyfriend always remembers how he spotted them building this wall, which made him immediately make a beeline for the two workers. He fell over and was cracking them up, all the time his acquaintances were trying to get him to enter the studios hahaha. I was brought up by my grandparents and we were all massive fans of Norman. Pitkini hahaha He makes me remember my grandparents. My daughter grew up watching all his films too. In a way his movies brought her closer to her great grandparents too. Thank you Norman.
I'm only 18 years old but I grew up watching Norman's films with my Grandad and we would never fail to laugh! Norman was one of the nicest men in show business, may he RIP, thank you for bring many smiles on my face :)
I will always remember the laughter I had when I was a kid after my dad introduced me to his films. Norman Wisdom = My Idol. His performances were stunning.
ah wonderful man..I'm only 35 years of age and my dad got me watching Norman wisdom and to this day I still watch his movies...what a talent even up to his final days he entertain people...a ture gent REST IN PEACE little man with a big heart...DONT LAUGH AT ME..CAUSE I'M A FOOL..legend
God bless him, he was a true entertainer right up to the end. That stumble as he was walking away after being knighted was great and from the luck on her face, her Majesty enjoyed it as well!
It looked like she mumbled something about him not being able to resist his shenanigans haha. We were all holding our breath, just like characters in his movies haha. She was probably most nervous about knighting him...she wouldn't want to do a routine with that sword....though I bet he was trying to think of how he could work that in.
I was a professional organist for many years and was resident in a trio in 1974 at Caesars palace, luton.I saw many famous acts there including Norman Wisdom. He did 7 nights and he had a stooge with him.An all round entertainer.Singer,Multi instrumentalist and a very funny and talented man.He was a one off. All those years ago and I still remember him fondly.
The simply Brilliant Norman Wisdom . His acting skills from his observational work of the human condition is terrific. A huge talent . His 60s films were such an influence and me growing up.
I met him once years ago walking a little dog down a little track on the North of the island. His house as I understand it was called Ballalaugh, which I think means "home of" Home of Laughter. A great memory.
He brought a lot of laughter into the world, along with a considerable amount of confusion. A great comedian, I'd call him a legend, and I'm not even British.
im 37, and have just been watching Mr Wisdom all day as i never really did when i was younger. was a lovely man, with a story that over comes all the odds. God Bless you Norman
Norman Wisdom Autobiograpy is spot on I have read the book over and over again. When i was a child i was fortunate enough to see Norman at a charity event I just stared in orra of him. For my 21st Birthday I wanted to see Norman who was at Davenport Theatre he was amazing doing all the stunts on stage. Thankyou Norman for making me happy and laugh through my life. It broke my heart when they did a documentary about Norman and his family in his later years. The only person who shown any carring for Norman was his Daughter in Law Kim. His daughter Jacki came across very selfish. I wish he was my Dad I would of looked after him to the end. God Bless you Norman a very talented English man who the world will remember forever.
I recall as a boy in England in the 1960's that ( as the documentary rightly states ) Norman Wisdom was bigger in the movies even than James Bond. His films were eagerly anticipated; and notwithstanding his actual height, he really was a giant for many years in the UK.
This guy was so funny, films were brilliant and still are,one of the funnest guys ever so natural will never forget him,Rip Norman they're Probably in stitches up in heaven too.🤣❤
He sent me a signed photo AND a letter... amazing!..with an invite of an appointment at any stage door to meet him, but alas he was never near..i treasure both the letter and the photo.
I loved norman he was amazing actor, he was very good looking when he was in the army, im 53 but when my mum was alive we always watched ,norman wisdom 💜 ❤ iv got most off his films x
Many thanks for this story, I use to watch him at the cinemas when I was young. Amazing person,,,god bless him...and thank you from THE ISLAND OF MALTA
Norman Wisdom was simply brilliant and inspired so many people. What is probably not as well known is that that he inspired thousands to actually join the military. Believe it or not some of his films were probably unwittingly recruitment films. I loved everything he did and all his films but for me when he was alongside Edward Chapman were the best. And lets make no mistake musicianship aside, a military bandsman making Battalion boxing champion is very special indeed. His comedy timing was sublime. In short one of the greats
This world of ours need more people like Norman around as he loved the people and didn't do it for money , not like the money grabbing comics around today who wouldn't do anything without being paid high life wages. Rest In Peace Norman you can make Heaven Laugh Now
Norman was really talented and I've appreciated most of his films. The pathos could become a bit irksome if overdone, which it often was. He was lucky to have had such talented Co stars like Gerdy Desmond - one amongst many.
Have his autograph somewhere. Didn't know about his cruel past; his father was an evil swine, and it's astounding how Norman did what he did in life after such cruelty. Alot would crumble after such abuse, I think I would. One of our true legends.
How could any one not like this man Sad souls, Sad Lost Souls people with no Sense of Humor, The man was a pure genius and like Charlie Chaplin he could also write a lovely melody with one finger on the piano, both had massive hits in their life times, What a Talented Genius, he was, and humble with it ,
Oh fuck. How can anyone say that to there child. You can even see the sadness in Normans children's eyes over that. What a great man you was sir Norman
Right before this, I saw "The Early Bird". Never heard of Norman Wisdom but I'm glad he could perform right up to his 90's despite his illness. I also want to check out the episode he was on in "Last of the Summer Wine". Don't recall that episode at all.
Norman was not an easy person to live with, he was asked to leave Brinsworth House in Twickenham, the house for retired actors, cos he was too much to handle, his family did not want to move to Normans home in the Isle of Wight cos they had their own businesses in the South of England, sometimes it's best to part company..
I'm just blown away at the stunning physique that Norman Wisdom had in his younger days! How he managed to build such a commanding body on such a poor diet still baffles me.
With his wealth, why couldn't he stay at home after the dementia set in? I've read some rather unsavoury remarks about his kids-I'd hate to think they weren't there for their dad when he needed them.
dementia is a hard thing mate, my dad had dementia me and my mum looked after him at home as long as we could but when the dememtia gets bad a person changes totally they get very aggressive and its a bad thing to say but it is a strain, a person with dementia tries to get out of the house at 3 in the morning, wanders about trying to put the kettle on with no water at 3 in the morning, puts a gas fire on and when that is every night its just too much.
I recommend people watch the documentary about his kids coming to terms with having to care for him. You will see Two people in his life at that time who are absolute gems...They are His P.A., and his daughter in law.

There will only be one Norman Wisdom. A comic genius.

Always loved this lovely Man, disgusted in his two children who refused to care for him in his later days !!!!,..."shame on you!!"
Norman was not an easy person to live with, he was asked to leave Brinsworth House in Twickenham, the house for retired actors, cos he was too much to handle, his family did not want to move to Normans home in the Isle of Wight cos they had their own businesses in the South of England, sometimes it's best to part company..
Brilliant!!
I was in the same regiment as Norman, he was a 10th. Royal Hussar (PWO). After two amalgamations, it is now part of The Kimgs Royal Hussars.

Hello. Do you have a complete uncut version of Norman Wisdom This is Your Life with Eamonn Andrews please?
R.I.P Norman
Love that guy xxx
My hero 👏👏👏👏🇬🇧
I don't think he had that much money, he got nothing for TV repeats of his films and rarely worked the last 20 or so years.
I recommend people watch the documentary about his kids coming to terms with having to care for him. You will see Two people in his life at that time who are absolute gems...They are His P.A., and his daughter in law.
