    As for the D-Link DGS-105 Switch, in Europe we always use it with a linear power supply, paying particular attention to the HiFi audio quality power cord and DC cable. In these conditions, the audio results are good, given its price. Thanks for your very interesting video :) Best regards from France.

    One big question,
    does your router upstairs feeding everything have
    Wi-Fi turned on? If so, this causes a lot of internal rf in your router that affects your Ethernet outputs..
    Every piece of gear downstream will deal with this rf differently and make it sound different from each other. The differences we hear is the noise contamination that comes through the dac.

    I find the Netgear GS105 with an IfI 12v Power Supply sounds fantastic. Not thin, not lifeless and better than straight out of the router. I'm in the US and the 105 is just a 5-port version of the GS108 you didn't like. But you MUST not use the supplied power supply - I found a couple of power supplies made a difference but the IfI made a huge difference. I'm running CAT6 into a SOtM SMS 200 ultra neo streamer into a Chord Hugo TT2.

    Happy to have found your channel.... I need help... From where it comes in the wall, do I route telephone cable to the router right next to the streamer (10m) or do i put the router immediately at the wall?, what cable, one or two switches and which, which interconnect from the last switch to my Innuos Zenither MK3 streamer... Then USB to my DDC and DAC, it is the part I have least knowledge of.... Cannot wait for your next review, hope you will also discuss long telephone versus long wifi cables... Thank you!

      OK - results may be different for you as the ones I have tested are 120v and yours are 220v. The sound may be different with the different power supplies. HOWEVER, this is what I have found to be highly effective and very cost efficient (here are the links to the USA Amazon site and you can see if they have it on the UK site: I would use this cable (multiple times) to go from the wall to your router into the first switch, out of the first switch into the second switch and out of the second switch. (amzn.to/3hE3vOv). Use the 2' or 3' versions and keep them all by the wall. Then use a longer version to run to your streamer. The reason I recommend this cable is because each cable is tested and they send along a test sheet to prove it really is a Cat 6+ cable. Most of the cables claim to be but are not and are terrible cables. These sound pretty decent. If you can afford it, the Supra Cat 8 cables (Swiss made) are very good and will probably be less expensive for you than for me. Here it is $50 for 1 meter. If you can't afford that cable for them all, then use it to go from the third switch that will next to your streamer to go the 1 meter from the third switch to the streamer. I am about to test some new inexpensive switches tomorrow and can confirm for you then which are the winning switches that are under $50 USD each. I will tell you the BEST sound improvement will come from having two switches by the wall AND plugging them into a power conditioner. I like the Audio Quest 3 which is $299 USD. Doing the two switches at the wall into a power conditioner and one switch by your streamer will give you MUCH BETTER performance than spending $3,000 USD on just one switch - and you will have spent MUCH less money. I will respond tomorrow with the update on the switches for you.

      I am in Texas. I think the Supra cable is just "OK". They are a tiny step up from the Blue Jeans Cable and there is no difference between the cables if you are not running multiple switches. From "There's no Such Thing as Digital: a Conversation With Charles Hansen, Gordon Rankin, and Steve Silberman" by Michael Lavorgna, AudioStream June 24, 2013.
    Michael Lavorgna: It's common for people to envision and represent a digital signal as a series of 1s and 0s. As such, there's really no room for error, at least according to this binary theory. Is a digital signal simply a series of 1s and 0s?
    Charlie Hansen: Unfortunately not. The "1"s and "0"s are just abstractions that are easy to think about. But in the real world, something real needs to represent those two abstract states. In modern digital electronics, we have almost universally chosen a voltage above a specific level (that varies from one "family" of electronic parts to another) to represent a "1" and a voltage below a different specific level (that again can vary) to represent a "0".
    In the real world, those two voltages are not the same, so there is a "grey" zone between the "black" of the "0" and the "white" of the "1". Also, it takes time for the signal to change levels, and the time required to do so can depend on dozens (or even thousands) of other external factors.
    All of the problems with digital are analog problems.

    • @acutube50
      @acutube50 Před 3 měsíci

      I'm sorry but you've been misled. The receiver will switch between the 0 and 1 state, there is no 'maybe'. If there is noise sufficient to change a bit, it will be detected and action taken to correct it. The whole set of networking protocols are about ensuring what is received is >exactly< what was sent. It is, if you like, a lossless system.
      What is presented to the DAC will be exactly what was in the source file, and it doesn't matter where the source file is located or how it was transferred.
      From the DAC onwards it is analogue and all the old understandings apply.
      If your system can handle video, it can easily handle even a HD audio file.
