anyone else wanna see him do it on an actual snare lol
Yessssssssssssss
Somebody needs to give this man a snare drum 🥁 One Time.
I keep expecting the final play to move to an actual snare!
We need that Kevlar head so I can hear that crisp 👀
PLEASEEEE
That’s not the ACTUAL ending of the cadence. That was how they asked us to end for movie purposes
You were on the Morris brown team
@@toomanyaliases3960 Yes I was
@@RomeBKnowing8199 that’s amazing
They made y'all end it early, because how could A&T have won if y'all had a whole ass final section that we didn't even see in the movie? Y'all bringing the Heat, but you were supposed to be the bad guys lol
@@SeanLaMontagne Both cadences that we(Morris Brown) played in the movie were edited on the movie side. We played them both in their entireties but the movie folks edited them to end the way that they did. The part where we sloppily brought our sticks in at the end of the cadences in the final battle scene was done that way by design for the movie. Also there was more material that we played in the deleted scenes of the movie
The roll isn’t meant to be metered and it was done that way by design to not be perfectly clean for the movie. I marched for Morris Brown and was on the drumline in the movie.
Wait you were in the movie?👀👀
That's awesome! You all did a phenomenal job!
If that's true, then I'm sure you know yall actually won but I get what they had to do for movie purposes
@@kokoharmony3747 Yes I was. I attended Morris Brown and I was in the band playing on the drumline
@@KC_Smooth Thank you!!
Morris Brown won.. but movies with sad endings are hard to watch on repeat.
Yeah you right!
Not Friday night lights. Can watch that over and over again
@@TrentTMoney came here to say this. FNL is one of my top 5 favs. Ending is heart breaking but great movie.
"I'm gonna let him tap me off" Oh that's a new one, must be a drummer thing
Yeah! haha funny phrase, but it's how they all start together. Tap off = count off
@@ApexPercussion I don't know why it sounded funny and different coming from you. I was on drumline for a single semester so I've definitely heard it before haha
THANK YOU!!!
I thought I was the ONLY one who thought that Morris Brown should have won! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Fun Fack My 4th Grade Teacher was in the final Drumline Battles. You cant miss him. He is literally the shortest Snare Dummer on the Line. His name is Herbert Bowens Jr.
In the opening snare part those are hand to hand cheeses
Yup 100%! Luckily caught it right before the final reps and fixed it!
@@ApexPercussion Awesome 💯
No ones talking about how smooth 17:47 was??
I watched it four times before finishing haha
That's a big fact
Drumline is one my favorite movies!
Appreciate you showing love for HBCU’s
Ok so the reason they're called "Cheezes" is because adding a diddle to a flam is like adding cheese to your hamburger. It just takes to a whole new level. Its pretty corny sounding today but so are most rudiment names lol
We literally never knew that, huh! Makes sense though!
Thats actually really interesting, learn something new everyday. The only Cheese term ive ever heard of is "too cheese something" meaning "finding an unintended (usually easier, sometimes hidden) alternative solution to something" often used for games. for example player SimpleFlips often asks "did i just cheese this level by finding a hidden Dev Path?" Our language is weird isnt it?
pretty sure the reason it's called a cheese is because if you say it out loud it sounds like chu-duh, which sounds like cheddar, and is in fact a type of cheese
@@jacobcantor2597 I like that explanation better 👍😁
My college band director Kevin Jones play the quads for Mo B in this movie.
NO way! I just saw this and realized how COLD this line was!!
My dad played the snare drums for Clark Atlanta in this movie
@@cahronhouston7999 I wonder if there is footage of every band's full show, or at least the full songs they played for the film
@@gabrielgoodloe6262 there is, go to the battle against Clark Atlanta and he’s the snare drum all the way at the end before they fight
@@gabrielgoodloe6262 thats dope! Just makes me feel old tho... My first college game was vs CAU in 2006.
I'm so greatful for the gratitude to my dear ole Morris Brown college which I attended in 1988 and became became trumpet section leader thru my tenure. You are superior in nature to learn these licks by memory to me and I remembered why I never played the snare drum again!! Lol.. And you were right,!! MBC was ROBBED!!!!!
techincally they did win.. morris brown has a more seasoned drumline than A&T, so they edited a few cadences out, and told them to dumb down a few others. they tell you this in the bonus stuff.
The first part of MB rolls are called "opened double stroke rolls" (16th notes)...the snare solo has Egg Beaters..and hand to hand cheeze(inverts)...Shirley Murphys....flam fives.....and many more hybrid rudiments!...Thanks! For the shout out!.....M......B......C!!!!!!
"I'm gonna let him tap ME off, then i'll hit the roll"
iconic moment there
16:43
Me believing him because I don’t know how tf he heard any of those notes
That's basocally me, a non-drummmer, for the whole video.
Shout out to my High school band director for being one of the Quad players in Morris Brown
The poison lick as a first down was one of my favorite things to play
I have so much more respect for that movie after my past few days watching CZcams drummers/content creators use this movie to learn/create share
My man got a hair-tie, shit, lookout world.
if my memory serves me correctly when shooting these scenes Morris Brown had to perform lesser cadences as they where showing on camera to be far superior to the fictitious A&T squad which was composed of some legit percussionist especially the one that played Nick Canons hands. If you want to do some content with one of the actual players on the snare riffs and cadence arranger to create some cool follow up content and to get your questions on why they choose certain arrangements I will make that happen. I saw your impossible audition video and went down the rabbit hole reminiscing on those days we heard those cadences every week for football games. let me know I am game for it.
This legend is learning what would take me at LEAST a good couple days within an afternoon
I love the resurgence of interest in MBC and this movie. I played quads for MBC’s line when we filmed this and it was a BLAST.
This video was a suggestion... I was watching comics explained. No idea why, but this shit is so dope. Carry-on good sir
I say that we call ourselves the thigh gang, given that this mans thighs have more screen time than than a Disney princess❤️
Notice that bulge !? My goodness man
It's so crazy how I've been playing percussion for around 7 years and I'm still learning new things that I've never seen before. Like I had no clue what "egg beaters" were before watching this, but I guess you really do learn something new everyday. The magic of percussion!
Now to practice what you just learned!
Morris Brown’s “X Factor” is a sick ass cadence. I’m waiting for that.
You are amazing the fact that your recognized the beat at the beginning and how culturally we hit the drum line differently... I actually chuckled at that!!
"I kinda see like a THIS motion" if this was a tshirt I would buy one lol MERCH PLEASE
Yes, please
I am in the band judging community. I ran into some of my percussion buddies (because I am a visual guy), and asked them ... is it me or did the better drumline lose. Thank you for validating my lack of dut dut dut knowledge.
Hi hello! The algorithm brought me here so I have a question for this fascinating video. Can you (or someone) explain why Eggbeaters are so *chefs kiss* enough to say they should've won? Just curious. This was awesome to watch
I have to say brother. I'm disabled. You have inspired me to pick my sticks back up. In the 80s, I played for 6 different bands, drum and beugal corps, drum and baton corps. Me and my friend Jimmy were great snare drummers. Everyone wanted us to play for them. After graduation it pretty much stopped. You my friend are going to blow up on CZcams. All the snare players on CZcams are half as talented as you. I need to learn all over again. Thank you for your videos and inspiration. PEACE ✌
i am sooooo invested now, i cant wait for part 2
I have the film with the deleted scenes 👀... if You are interested i can try get it to you
It gives me chills bro!
RIDICULOUS HONESTLY TO SEE THIS DONE OUTSIDE OF THE MOVIE.. IM GLUED TO THIS.. 💪🏼🙌🏼
Every since he said that poison lick comment now I can’t un-hear it so now as soon as the drumming start I’m like 🎶girl I must warn you.....🎶
See USM drumline
We had that at the end of our cadence for my highschool marching band, was my favorite
Love how you break it all down and have fun with it. Keep it up!
One of the guys I played drums with in highs school and watched this over and over until he could write down the music for the one cadence. We ended up playing it at all of our football games and everyone loved it. I still have the music.
Love the videos dude. Super dope!
YES YOUR BACK IVE BEEN WAITING AND YOUR CHANNEL HAS GROWN SO MUCH
Thanks for your patience! We'll be cranking out more videos more often now!
I always groove so hard to the Morris Brown cadence. I loooove this series! I failed hard core at playing the symbols in drumline in high school but I have always loved drumlines so much! This makes me so happy.
I don't play the drums, I'm not really into this movie yet here I am, completely sucked into this video lol.
It's a classic. You'd enjoy
I’ve watched this video 5 times. This dude is so talented. Subscribed and can’t wait to see this channel blow up!
The snare beats were cool in this battle but it was the quads that were really beastly. Everything about Morris brown’s quads were murders.
Crazy talented bro! 🔥 thank you for blessing us w your gift
Already subscribed a week ago. Already liked before watching based on title. The man's giving the people what they asked for!!! Doesn't get much better than that!
That is Awesome, Very Talented!!👊
I love those shorts...mad talent also
Interesting you say MB should have won at 9:18 because I saw an interview years ago where the director said MB was CLEARLY the better drumline so they had to do everything they could to downplay their talent to make it seem like A&T won. Also, I believe this was MB's actual drumline and ATL A&T was actually a high school- Southwest Dekalb High School. They have the same yellow & blue colors.
Greatest video I've ever seen
This is so dope
The fact that you do this memorization all from ear/muscle memory is amazing. This came up on my recommended out of nowhere. But I thoroughly enjoyed all of these drumline videos. SUBBED 💯🔥
This was straight fiirreee 🔥🔥💯💯
Good job man! Keep it up
Dope that you're doin this. Love this classic movie.
Loving these videos!
As a none drummer and fan of this whole snare sound in this scene u did a damn good job from what I hear
Bro unreal 😱🔥
That coming to America beat will always be 🔥🔥🔥
So impressive. Thanks for sharing!
When you finish all 4 parts can you perform the whole completion ?????
AAAAHHHHH 🔥 STRAIGHT HEAT!!!
So good! Thanks for showing love! Definitely whiplash ending!
You are right, Morris Brown used beats from songs in their cadences. The other drum line used the bass line intro to Rick James' "give it to me baby". It's an hbcu tradition. It's heartbreaking that it was actually Morris brown's last major band performance. The school had some administrative issues but regained accreditation in 2002. Sadly missed in the hbcu family. Good luck on the comeback. Nick cannon's crew had to win for the movie's sake. Great work Apex.
Love these videos, keep em up!
I had to watch your play through a couple times over...your technique is so clean
Love these videos !!! You’re awesome
Man !
I literally just sat and watched 3 of your videos in a row... you are a legend, people will know your name dude.
Great job
Ain’t gone lie I always felt like Morris Brown had the dub there was no need for a tiebreaker
Woooo This man got skills!!!! Go head then
You are awesome!
Goddamn, that was a beautiful breakdown of a serious drumlin beatdown, great job bringing it to life!
awesomely fun content keep it up bro
Keep it up, this is very interesting.
I never noticed the egg beaters until I watched your video. Morris brown was a lot more technical than just, as they said "groovy" and hands down beat A&T. They made A&T look like beginners. DAMN 👍
Man awesome videos. I haven't played since my middle school days ,I'm 28 now . You just made me order a practice and and get back into it. This brings back so many memories of playing while watching the movie 😂 👍🏻.
you make drumming look cool af
Yes!!!!! So happy for another video!!
More to come!
Just found this channel. Super fun stuff!
Hell yes, I hope you keep doing stuff!
I showed this to a few of my friends who are on snares in the movie.. they said "ooo he's pretty good..missing a few notes though 😆🤣." Great job man. I have alot of Stickin Sensation (MBC section name) cadences.
Just found an extended cut on HBO Max of the ending battle with A&T and Morris Brown each with a new and awesome battle. It definitely adds to the ending in my opinion.
He wore purple because of Morris Brown dude is awesome
Cant wait for the next parts
Nicely done!
KILLED IT AGAIN!!!
Dude that was crazy!!!🔥🔥🔥
Killed it
Bro your pretty dope for these videos
Thanks for reminding me how COLD this line was!
Love these videos so much and I know nothing about drums. Keep it up!!
I forgot one thing, your video, TRIPTYCH BOOM was awesome 👌 👏. Please keep the videos coming, I need them. Ty. PEACE ✌
This video was worth waiting!
Hopefully you won't have to wait as long for the next one! We're trying to crank them out!
Waiting patiently for parts 2-4 👌🏽🙏🏽 Good content and humor bro. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Lol waiting. Not patiently tho!!! Hurry up!!!
Yuuuuuuuuuttttttttttttttteeee yuh baaadd like yaaazzzzzz yooooooooo this sick .. absolutely 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
