Great Video reminds me of fishing With Dad ! - Pulling lines in to let those big boats past ! -Dad would complain about the sludge being kicked up - Same thing everytime a boat went past haha ! -Those long endless summer holidays fishing most days - Getting a real beer shandy for 1st time from that wonderful fisherman Pub on Canal side in Bingley ! -That Smell of Alcohol & Bleach ftom there -You knowthat wonderful smell as you walk through a well kept pub -You get mainly in the Country side pubs & a few city pubs ? -But that wonderful aroma has followed me all my life - And brought back many a memory
    Thanks for Sharing !

Thanks for posting this video. That looks like great fun, tooling slowly along an ancient canal in a snug little houseboat, flags and banners moving in the breeze, birds fearlessly chirping and calling away, unfazed by such a familiar sight and sound. I suppose, when they arrive, they tie up, hook in, exchange old & used for new & fresh and then bike to the nearest pub or guest-house for bangers & mash, or whatever, with a pint or two. Sign me up!

Live not far from Leeds Liverpool canal - lovely to walk on pathways there Saltaire - up Hirst wood - Bingleys 5 rise locks - Wonderful - My Dad would take my sister & I walking down there - from catching Minows & other small, fish in a Jam Jar to full fledge fishing with Dad - Pulling our lines in to let the Barges past - My son Lewis now 30 - I found myself doing same with him as a lad few years ago -We go with my grandaughter Ruby now - I always wanted a barge - Sail up to Skipton & Back ? - Another town with fond memories - I always wanted a Dutch Barge - Not a traditional, barge - A dutch barge one looks like a real boat - Not sailing a corridor down the canal -I just waiting for lotto & a dutch barge is top of my list ? Ha !
When My Dad was dying ! -I had been to see him at the BRI hospital - And called ta the travellers rest on way home - A couple of pints to brighten things up I suppose ! - And a porter ( I used to work with sort of - He Worked BRI & I worked wards other hospital LMH) came over to me at the bar & Ask I still wanted to buy a barge - Why what you got -And he showed me a photo album of The Old Black Prince ! -The restaurant barge from saltaire ! -It had been for its 12 year check refurbed & gutted - Ready for its new owners !
I told the porter I could not afford ! -But if I had that kind of I would have jumped at that piece of history !
Stange thing is I was in the City Vaults Pub in Bradford ( great food) A few years ago - And Hayley the barmaid said you wanna read while handing me the newspaper - So I took it of her while I waited for my lunch -It was The Yorkshire Post & Across the front page it said " The Black Prince Sails again " ? -Brought a big smile to my face !

marvellous the only way to the only short point with a dutch barge is that you can only use certain canals to wide and high for a lot give me a narrow boat for the rest best way to see the unspoilt country side either style is great

The Canal Trust posted a map of the canals showing their allowable NARROWBOAT sizes that fit in their different sizes of canals. Beam, length
And air draft are importing considerations when choosing a Narrowboat. Only the 7 foot wide, 53 ft in length ( oops, I forgot the minimum air draft)
Fit in all the canals. Help with details appreciated.

Never understood why we don't use barges for freight.. 5 mph isn't very fast but ...70...100 .150 ton or more would make a difference

@Hainsworth Boatyard..I was curious if you mates build replica luxe motors? If so, what is your site. I am trying to get one to live on in my retirement from the US of A.

I have a few contacts that can build a boat like this in the uk, or a few contacts to source a second hand one.
I originally bought this as an unfinished project, and did the fit out myself,
whereabouts do you want to be located, because that limits the size of boat you can build, if you want to cruse the entire uk canal network that is only possible with a boat 57 ft long and 7 ft wide, a boat like this can cruse the north or south of england but the north South link is only 7ft wide. if you'd like moor info email me I'm always happy to help gary@hainsworthsboatyard.co.uk

I think a lot of people would be interested in the history of the canals. They must have been hand dug ? Yikes a lot of labor.

So much has been changed on that boat, you can't call it a 'Dutch barge' anymore.
    It's a barge.

So, when i buy a jaguar, than we can say" english car". But when i change a lot of things, than it is not a English car anymore?🤣🤣🤣. Wow, special

'Dutch barge' isn't used to depict the country of origin.
The term is used to depict a type of design.
And yes, when you change a lot on a design, then it becomes something else.
When i give your Jaguar a different front and another tail, it isn't a Jaguar anymore.
