Why use 5w30 in auto zone my 2002 Dakota 3.9l 4x4 recommends 10w30?

You can most certainly use 10-W 30. I often use it in the summer time.
Also a good idea to add some Lucas Oil Treatment. The Oil will run at
the same viscosity at operating temperture.
