Thats great man! Always nice having someone who doesnt leave out steps to make a video seem 'condensed'. Simplifying is great but sometimes a little verbosity is needed. Have a good day man and welcome back!

This is honestly really well explained. Other people that are making videos regarding configuration with cisco switches aren't as efficient and clear as you are. You are very organized and straight up (no wasting time and getting straight to the point ). Well done my guy, I'm currently a networking intern and I'm learning a lot from people like you.

it's cool that you really stop and break it down. You won me over when you showed how to find the COM port...most folks don't go into detail with the "simpler" parts...good on you.

Hi Jorge, thanks for the tutorial. Well set up, great for a newbie like me. Stuck inside during some ugly weather today and came across a stack of older Cisco switches a week back, and always wanted to begin learning how to configure them, get comfortable with it before heading down the Cisco Certification path. Your tutorial was perfect to begin down that route.

Jorge, I appreciate your video on setting up switches. I actually have two 2950 switches and one 3550 switch. I also got two 2800 series routers from my job since they were upgrading and I have always been interested in networking. Your video on showing how to setup passwords on other items is very helpful to a newbie like me. I will continue to watch other videos you have and practice, practice, practice. Once again thanks for the information.

This was a great video. The only thing I was waiting for was you to run #show ip brief again so I could see what the ports show after you interfaced the range of ports.
I'm currently trying to teach myself how to configure new ie2000 switches and integrate them into our network. A contractor was responsible for all the initial switches but now whenever a new location is added, I will need to configure a switch for it. I'm so glad to have resources like this or I would be hosed.

Bought two Catalyst 4948s on ebay mostly for the 10Gb modules. Couldn't get them to work. You solved my problem! Nobody else talks about setting VLan1 with an ip, or assigning it to the ports. That worked, thanks! Now at least it's working like my linksys was :)

How do you disable, say for instance, int f0/1, the tcp OR enable UDP portn connection only. Of that port, meaning which, I shouldn't be able to send or receive tcp packets/frames/bits
In addition to that, is it possible to disable int f0/1 from receiving data/packets/frames/bits etc? Making it somewhat like a diode?

Very good tutorial, it really help me a lot, in my case I have to add a switch 3560(POE) to my rack and I followed your instructions, create a vlan and assigned the 48 ports but to make sure I'm not missing a step, do I have to connect with a crossover cable from any port from the existing switch to my number 1 port in my new one?
Hope you can clear me up this option,

Hi. I have adsl-router Dlink-2500u and cisco 2960 switch. Adsl-router configured as dhcp server with IP 192.168.1.1 and it give IPs to the connected devices from 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.224 pool. So I configured switch Vlan1 to the Ip address 192.168.1.10 mask 255.255.255.0 and configured default gateway as 192.168.1.1 Then I connect my computer and ADSL-router to switch and... Nothing happens. Computer can't receive IP. Where I 'm wrong?
