Any time I see and hear a steam locomotive it is almost like stepping back in time. I love it. If you have never rode on a passenger train pulled by a steam locomotive, I highly recommend. Great parking job guy!

The diesels are there for dynamic braking, which steamers dont have, its called "safety".

Thanks. I've always loved the steam locomotives. When I was little I'd sit on the corner post and watch the Santa Fe go by with one locomotives pulling 2 or 3 to the CFI steel mills in Pueblo, Colorado. Heart breaking.

I got curious, so I did some research... the 2816 has 2 whistles. the front is an air whistle. it has abrupt start and stop. the rear whistle is steam operated and has the more traditional steam whistle sounds we associate with steam trains.

It is somehow very sad for this Canadian viewer to watch a beautiful Canadian Pacific train travelling on a US railway line. We don't see that many trains anymore in the Prairies. One dream I still have is to take a VIA Rail passenger train from Vancouver to Halifax, but at my age, I am no longer holding my breath on that either.

We have had no operating mainline Canadian steam in Ontario/Quebec for decades, essentially since CN 6060 went West in the 1980’s (I saw her last excursion on a Niagara Falls-Toronto run from the vantage point of a new grade separation under construction on Appleby Line in Burlington). The 2816 spent most of her later life running commuter trains from Windsor Station to Vaudreuil/Rigaud, and Montreal-Ottawa trains. Would be nice to see her run on the Winchester subdivision from Smith Falls to Montreal, some of her old stomping grounds still in existence.

Luckily the guy went by early. That was a nice telephoto and of course the dark sky in the background with the train well lit made a perfect match You've also got the four signs there all of which are important and even the guy sitting on the edge of his truck showing the relaxed pace of those that just came to see it. Never thought I'd see a 40 ft Box Car in such glossy paint and waxed. Nice finale to the chase

Diesel locomotives are used for dynamic braking which 2816 and all other steamers don’t have and also if something goes wrong with it like this did in Mexico, so the diesel were put up front and pulled it out of Mexico.

Doesn't burn coal, and the diesels are there by agreement for protection or power for electrical.
