Lucas gives a detailed tour of his box truck and the low down on van living in New York City rent free. Van Dwelling / Van life style video. Living in vehicle full time in NYC.
THIS is what I consider "vanlife" -- a real person, living a real life, in a real van, in a real city. And as a fellow Buckeye, it's good to see someone represent "fly-over" country with such aplomb. Great camerawork, by the way. THANK YOU!
I appreciate the honesty. We see so many vanlife Romantics, that make it sound so easy and natural. It’s a decision to not be taken lightly, I appreciate your attitude that this build was a prototype. I’ve been watching a new channel Out spoken Wheels on wheels, she doesn’t have use of her legs, but sold her house to move into her mini van. Even after two lengthy trips, she’s experiencing the toughness of reality just 2 days in. I’m hoping her channel takes off so she can expand her options.
The 7th and 8th seconds are like in a verse by TS Elliott ... "... in my end is my beginning ...", focused in the rearview mirror of the car. Conceptually? Are you looking for a way out to protect people? In search of the Way? Finding the way? To what? All the answers, perhaps, are here, in three seconds of cinematic time in 27 minutes. Congratulations, Boris, on the cinematic power of this snippet of life.
I like it when someone is REAL about 'van-life'! This guy is actually LIVING IT and it is nice to see hwo he did this camper! How you have to live and you give the Realistic that people do not want to talk about!
All in one diesel heater has everything in one case. Dry heat, no fumes inside. Really is a win win. Chinese one under $200. For you van a small 2KW more than enough.
“In an 🚨 Emergency situation” immediately I’m thinking the next words out of his mouth are “In a Snow storm or in a dangerous weather related situation”.. nope I was way off- It was “if I got the Shits”.. that was funny sir-!
@@FreeSpiritMom i was in nyc then all the covid stuff happened and i came down to Florida and got the truck to live in. Im tempted to drive back to nyc and live there again but i probably won't. I think im done with nyc for now.
@@joeythegypsy I’ve never been to NYC but it’s on my list. Don’t know if I have the balls to do carlife up there lol. I love FL. I can’t wait to go back
I live in NYC, as well. I have a UPS box, which allows me a "regular" mailing address. I do have a home address, but I don't ever get mail here, and no one has ever knocked on my door to verify that I live here. This is gonna be my life in a couple years, and to be honest, I'm looking forward to it.
Stay safe. Glad to hear you keep warm in the cold weather and cool in the hot summer. Interesting that you run out of power as most of the videos they never mention this. Thanks for keeping it real.
I hope that you never incurred a break in. If it is a nice day you can practice yoga in Central Park or drive out to Jones Beach state park on LI. Also, it is cool that you have a pet cat. I guess you park in the same neighborhood so your pet cat gets a feel for his territory. The cat just has to get adjusted to when you have to move your truck once a week for street cleaning.
I lived in my work van on the beach in great kill Staten Island for about 4 months 15 years ago it was f****** awesome fishing all the time so safe in the park it was unbelievable bathrooms it was great good luck bro
What's going on I loved this it was Beautiful I do have a Pro tip for you The UPS store is considered a Legal Street address and can be used to get all your mail and passport too if your wanting it
Really Nice for me the propane would have to live outside though lol. I love that you have Skyline and Cincinnati Chili in your fridge. I was born in Cincinnati and there is no other chili worth eating❤ I really like your home and great job doing it yourself..
If you get a diesel heater, try to connect it to the main tank, you'll struggle with a separate tank, chinese ones usually they came with the mounting pipe for the main tank
Yeah unfortunately those things tend to be a being power draw and typically require a generator to run. If I ran the A/C just off my batteries they would be depleted in less than a day most likely - the solar just isn’t quite built for that amount of power usage
Haha well it’s a bit of a hassle just when I’m carrying tools, camping gear, groceries, or anything sorta heavy through there. Since I can’t enter/exit through my back 2 doors all that easily
A lot of money spent, That movie theater lighting is just over $500 an can cost as littler as $300 with tax an shipping. The solar batteries are over $1,000 for that many.
Interesting build too much heavy use of propane though I would use more electric and that sort and solar as far as saying that you need to have an address that's not necessarily true there are plenty of homeless people and whatnot who do not have addresses the only reason you would need maybe some sort of addresses for your driver's license but if you don't drive and you don't have a home then you don't need to have really any ID if you just use cash etc so that somewhat of a misnomer to get around this there are several ways you can get a personal mailbox which is basically a street address for example 1 2 3 main Street number 456 that is your mailbox number but it looks like a street number also you can just go ahead and use your physical address of this if you have a regular PO box and use that as a physical address and then obviously the mailing address would be the PO box and again like you said using a friend's address you can do that or family member but that can get old real quick there's really not much need anymore with the internet and what not for physical mail it's very limited which is kind of a blessing because of all the junk mail lol so I would not let that slow you down there's always a work around
Nice set up , can I ask whats the size of the box van your using? I have a 2500 chevy express cargo van am going to convert to a camper . Any suggestions
The box is 12’ long, about 6’ wide, and about 6’6” tall. If it was any bigger I wouldn’t be able to park in regular parking spots and if it was any smaller I don’t think I’d be able to fit all my stuff! My suggestion is to plan out your plumbing and electrical first, and definitely get a diesel heater! I would also consider getting jockey boxes installed and that being one of the first things you do after you get your plumbing, electrical, and heat in place

the more people that do this, I believe the faster the government is going to put a stop to this. You are taking away from their friends rent and mortgage.
That may be true but at the same time I think the housing bubble deserves to burst. We’re paying landlord’s mortgages plus profit on top of that. Yet most renters can’t get a loan for a property. It’s ridiculous
About peeing in a van what's seen this Ozzy guy with a tricked-out stealth living van this guy had a funnel connected to a tube that would drain out to the bottom where he would put a jog or for some reason I remember he could pull the hose back in keep jug in drivers door well
So DIYing the build for a vehicle to live in full time to escape and divest from the predatory housing market in an effort to attain a higher sense of freedom and autonomy at the expense of comfort isn’t punk enough for you? Ya know.. I used to be quite the gutter punk, didn’t shower for weeks, going to shows every night, etc etc. I’ve done years and years of activism fighting for the rights of people marginalized and oppressed and whose voices aren’t amplified enough. But you’re right - the reason I don’t identify as ‘Punk’ anymore is because y’all are a bunch of judgemental pat-yourself-on-the-back type fuckers for being edgy
Haha I can afford a 1 bedroom in NYC as I used to have an apartment in Greenpoint. I chose to do the van for a multitude of reasons. No hard times here - just don’t wanna give my money away to pay for someone else’s mortgage
