8” of Snow on the Kentucky Adventure Tour

- The Kentucky Adventure Tour is a 900+ mile loop that covers much of southeastern Kentucky, northern Tennessee and a couple sections crossing into Virginia and West Virginia. The KAT is a great mix of paved backroads, graded dirt roads and some nice technical trails that give you nice look into Appalachian culture. The scenery along the KAT is incredible with beautiful Appalachian streams and expansive views all around! While we would only cover about 1/3 of the KAT on this trip we can’t wait to come back to experience the rest! On this day we would wake up to 8 inches of snow and have an amazing day wheeling in some of the most incredible snow covered scenery I've ever experienced.

When I first found this channel I made a jerk comment about your hairstyle. I was being an idiot.
I humbly apologize. Hurt people lash out and hurt people. I am better than that. Sorry.
I quickly came to love this channel. I love the bond you all have it’s so cool!
Thank you for saying that.
Thank you so much!!! That means a lot.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures ❤️
I too thought the same thing. I was feeling he was doing it for 'shock value' lol. This channel now is one of the best to be found if you want to feel like you're being taken along for the ride. Great editing, low key background music and he's very personable. Wish him the best!
@@gojeepn9011 I love it! I love the freedom they have. Plus it a wealth of real world knowledge!
You are now my favorite CZcamsr. I have been going back and watching all of your old videos and you have really inspired me to get out and do some overlanding. I just have to get myself a Gladiator.
Nah. A gladiator isn’t required! Enjoy yourself and hope to see you out there!
@@frenchie4wd yeah I know it’s not required but I have wanted a gladiator sense they came out so just another excuse to get one
Thank you so much!!
About 25 years ago we went on a similar trip to Big South Fork and some of what is known as the KAT. My club was and still is called STLC (South Eastern Toyota Land Cruisers). We had a meet up to do much of what you guys did. No body showed up except me and my wife so I called Rainey Kirk the club pres. and said where are you guys? Jeff it's supposed to snow so we canceled the ride. Well T and I said to heck with that so we went by our selves. It was much the same as you guys experienced. We slept in the back of our FJ60 and we woke up to about 8 inches of snow. It was so cool (COLD but cool). 13 degrees.
I agree with the hammock sleeper being a Man’s Man! Major kudos!
Looks like you all had a great time thanks for taking us along.
I loved watching the icesickel haning on for dear life on the front fender. Still can't believe they stayed. On the same night you got near 8 inches of snow, I got 2 to 3 inches in north Texas. It was so cold the next night. Looked like you had a wonderful trip. Great video!
Thank you for taking us with you to these beautiful places.
Absolutely the best overlanding video I’ve seen yet. Love the music and drone coverage. We were on the edge of our seats with the 3’ rock drop. We’ve never done this YET
Gorgeous. Another once in a lifetime adventure in the books.
Looked like great trip. KAT looks amazing!
Really great stuff Matt. ALL OF IT!!!
Tell Robert he's a real trooper sleeping in the hammock in that weather. Curious how he did the last 2 nights😄
Thanks… I was fine… I have been hammock camping for years and I prefer it over RTT or ground sleeping. In fact I have a hammock set up in my house for when I can’t sleep. I wish Matt could have made the frozen butt hang we did a few weeks ago, that would have made a great video!
Ha that’s so cool! That’s where I’m from is Rockcastle!!! KY!
The finale! Great video and trip.
I have been anxiously waiting for this video and it did not dissappoint sir! She said what I would have said when you hit the trail from camp and that if I was there I would have been so glad I was. I hope I get to camp somewhere gorgeous in snow like that once. I definitely don't want the mud though. Your drone going down the snowy river at about 430 min was gorgeous and would make a great wall print.
Great video!! Thanks Matt.
Each video gets better and better. This may be my favorite so far. Please keep up the great vids. Thanks.
The DB forest with the exception of RRG is open camping, you can camp anywhere you find a flat spot. It doesn't have to be a dedicated spot.
Great drone work and thematic music!
That was such a awesome video. Robert is a freaking warrior for staying in the hammock in that weather lol
looks great would love to go on a trip like that😊
I just binge watched this adventure. I am running behind on my Tubies because I have been away on my own adventure. This was definitely an EPIC trip. The beautiful area you were in, the trail, the challenges of the trail and the weather challenges. When I saw the the drone footage from the morning of the snow storm, I think my eyes started to sweat a little bit. Thank you so much for sharing this adventure! It was almost as good as if I had been along on the trip!!!!
At 23 minutes in you passed closed to me you went across the laurel dam im ten min from there was awesome to see my neck of the woods in your video you should have checked out Cumberland falls its beautiful there i had to add to this my wife said you drove right by us today going up our road toward long bottoms man id love to have met you love your channel
There’s absolutely nothing like camping in the snow. It’s the absolute best! I look forward to autumn, winter, and spring each year while other wait for summer. You can keep the heat. I love the snow.
I was waiting for this episode! Good job keeping us in suspense.
What an adventure. I seriously hope you do many more of these Matt. Nothing more epic and peaceful than to drive around on a trail after a fresh snow fall.
Also Robert was a rockstar for sleeping in that hammock.
PS. I’m really looking forward the expo and having a warmer less snowy experience than last time. Getting home from that was an adventure in and of itself.
Hi Ozark to very nervous to watch your video 😂😂😂
Love the snow, this would of been wonderful!!
Matt ! Epic adventure !!!
Wow what an epic trip!
Awesome trip
My favorite volgs
robert was rockin that puddle
Super vidéo
Been looking forward to this one.
This a really cool video, and you find friends to go with as well.
This is one of your best videos yet....Just started watching your channel a while back and am looking at getting a new Gladiator and this may have just sealed the deal.
Awesome! Thank you.
That would of been so much fun
Almost thought Robert was going to flood out his wife's Jeep like his 4Runner.
Love the drone footage!
Thanks!!
I love that Robert will always be the one to SEND IT
If Ben isn’t with us, we can count on Robert. Lol
I’m a new sub, long time Jeep owner. Love the content! Keep it up 👍
That was some serious overlanding pardna. Looked like much fun. A testament to having the proper equipment. Enjoy and stay safe.
Thanks!
Loved this series of videos!! We are putting this on our explore list!!
Love the beauty of Kentucky. Great video series.
Thank you!!
Cool Thank
What up from Oregon.
New to your Channel.
Thanks!!
I was up there during that snow... I am out of Knoxville. Loaded the kids up in the truck and drove up for the day... it was absolutely gorgeous.
If you guys ever go to Hurricane Creek into Pisgah National forest I'd love to join you
Great video..
Thanks for Sharing
I’m from Kentucky so I know a lot of the camping spots
@21:00 those aerial shots are beautiful
u would think that guy who drowned his 4runner would be done dipping his vehicles in water, nope.
Those Jeeps should have hill descent as an option. It works really well.
My '22 Rubicon does. I think his is a manual tho
Wow, that's not Louisiana for sure. Time make a oven in the engine bay. This will be on my bucket list.
Fun but too cold lol
What up with your drive shaft
3" lift and lots of flex aren't kind to the factory front drive shafts.
Very nice 👍
Father God now’s how to make one of the most beautiful Country’s in the world , and bring along just good people to Live The Dream.
What ! You hate mud?! I don't think I have ever heard those words spoken before.
Coooooooool
Osam🌹
Tricky weather, more trees come down during winter
15:17:50 two camera one close up from different angle may be left or right side of the vehicle. And one filming coming all the way down from the top. From just one angle it's a bit difficult to make out how much the vehicle flex and how high the drop offs are. You want to get a new set of camera(Gopro, handheld, shoulder held etc) another humble opinion of mine bro. Still it's a good and satisfying video, thanks, ozarks.
Is that your ball joints popping and clicking? 16:18 and forward while descending the rocks?
Front driveshaft. It;'s been replaced now.
Greenville sc
I’m definitely enjoying the videos, and am planning on doing some off-roading/camping this year (hopefully). What tent rack/tent are you using?
First view !
So...you getting a new front drive shaft before MOORE? 🔊👂
already in.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures nice!!
Lol try 12nich in Colorado...roof collapsed on me..
Matt: What RTT do you have on your Gladiator? I clicked on the link for one of your recommendations, Global Road Outdoors. They said they have your old tent that they are refurbing. They also said you had the same model currently. Would it fit 2 people and a 40# dog comfortably?
Norm, he is still running the Global Road Outdoors. He has the smaller Sidekick II thats probably close to a Full size and I am running the Sidekick II that's closer to a Queen size.
When was this recorded?
March 11-13
Do you happen to know the tire size on the Tacoma?
32s I think. Maybe 33s
What a beautiful trip! Do you have any concerns that the snow might collapse your tent? 8" inches of snow is a lot of weight!
I woke up several times to knock the snow off. I had major concerns. Lol.
I woke up several times throughout the night to knock the snow off the top of my tent as well. Early that morning, maybe around 5 or so I heard something loud. Evidently the snow had snapped one of the rods holding the front of my tent up.
From sc
really like your videos. only thing that is a concern, and not just from your site, is what kind of damage is being done to the waterways / streams / rivers, from residual oil and grease that inevitably finds an exit from your undercarriages. should there be controls on where / when you can drive up and down streams or rivers?
That’s a question for the US Forest Service. These are all legal trails and legal water crossings.
What kind of drone are you using in the picture of the snow in 8in of snow in Kentucky adventure tour like to get one
Such is the curse of the east coast of US and A… no camping… no wilderness like you would find stretches of “out west” and what limited “off pavement areas” that we have still mostly does not allow camping. I have been up and down entire east coast and it is like that everywhere. Every time I go to appallachians… campgrounds are full… cant camp in the woods… sad state of affairs really. And if you dare sleep anywhere… they will find you… and you will get the knock and the boot. They dont joke around on the east coast. I think it is a travesty really because outside overcrowded areas all these “wilderness areas” simply mean “you pay taxes for but you can’t use”.
what kind of radio system are you using to communicate with your travel friends? Great video BTW.
Thanks. We use Midland GMRS micromobile radios. I'm using the MXT575 now. I think I was using the MXT400 in this video.

What brand of diesel heater are you currently using?
Thanks
It’s by Yona Adventure Gear
can you tell me about your kitchen setup?
It’s a Global Road Outdoors drawer slide. I love it.
Very cool vid. What month did you do this in?
March last year
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures thanks for the quick reply. Im going with a group of friends in october.
@16:26 what's that crackling sound?
My front drive shaft. It’s been resolved.
What kind of a diesel? Heater do you have?
The one I used in this video is no longer made.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures I’m looking for a heater for my RTT. Not sure what to get.
@@deadman7359 HCalory makes a good one.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures 10-4 I’ll look that one up. Last time I used my RTT, I froze my rear end off lol. Thank you.
Do you ever worry about scratches in the paint when your on the trails or do you have some form of protection on everything,...expel or something
Scratches are just part of it. I don’t worry about it.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures I keep trying to tell my mind that. It's hard to comprehend scratching out 80k builds lol. Hopefully after the first one happens, it will be easier to accept more lol.
@@Pierce0420 it’s just paint it can be buffed out or repainted or wrapped if needed.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Just finished with everything on the Mojave, Rock Hard sliders, same Rebel rack as you, and a bunch of other stuff you reccommend. Just need a RTT now to finish it all.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Hey what bed cover are you using or do you know of that works with our rebel bed racks?
I hate when my driveshaft fails. I'm not proud, but I started taking a little blue pil.....oh wait, what were talking about?
