Return to Forever is: Chick Corea - Piano, Synthesizer Stanley Clarke - Double Bass and Bass Guitar Lenny White - Drums, Percussion Al Di Meola - Guitar
Four absolute geniuses on the same stage at once. Saw them at the Agora Theater in Ft. Worth almost 50 years ago. A night I will never forget. Thank you guys!
Saw them perform this in 1975 or 6 at the Berkeley Community Theater. It changed my musical mind. To watch this level of genius performed with only acoustic instruments with no dubbing was a moment in time. I was 7 r ows back in the middle so I can literally say that DiMeola's hands were a blur.
Me too. Saw them on the Old Grey Whistle Test and was completely transfixed. Still love this track 48 years later- in all its variations with different line-ups. Cream of the crop.
In Chicago in 1976 I saw a double bill with Weather Report and Return to Forever. WR just released "Black Market" and RTF "Romantic Warrior . . . one of the greatest concerts I ever attended!
I can only imagine, I saw Weather Report in Hawaii, while on Acid and I almost lost it. What Harvey Masn did to those drums is nothing short of a miracle. Damage control!!!
The "Communication" is what touches me the most.. And the responsiveness between one another...... It's all there within their playing ......... very much of an emotional high shall we say ................
First time I came across RTF was somewhere around 1974 on a PBS station called Soundstage. In NYC that was channel 13. Man, did they turn my head around! I've seen them perform twice and I also met Stanley Clarke at NYC's "Bottom Line" venue (now closed, so sad!) when Larry Coryell's Eleventh House band was tearing it up back in the day. Great stuff.
My first RTF album was Light as a Feather which has such a mellow, beautiful sound. I was completely blown away by Romantic Warrior with its ultra high energy and unbelievable musicianship. I love both equally but for different reasons and for different moods.
No doubt one of the greatest fusion jazz tunes ever. But, are you kidding with the video-?? No straight shots of Lenny White killing it on the drum kit? The video quality is pure 1970’s, but the lack of more scenes of White’s drumming is unforgivable!
Saw them at The Community Concourse in Downtown San Diego with my girlfriend Susan. We were 18 😎 FANTASTIC! Acoustics then All Electric after Intermission 😎😎😎
One of the greatest songs ever recorded! Here they do it justice--with Al staying most true to the studio version, the other three taking way more liberties.
4:27 Edward Van Halen's 1st "tremolo teacher". LOL! Al was already doing this in 1976, not to mention all the other amazing "shred guitar" 4:56 he was doing back then, way before Yngwie, MacAlpine, Moore, Becker, 5:37 Gilbert, etc.etc.

Very lucky

When the original album came out, it had an immediate personal effect that lasts to this day.
So true
I am a bit too young. But I can only imagine.
Ja das ist wahr -. Ich war hin-und weg.
Blew me away watching this on the telly one evening, bought the album....and it still blows me away. Outstanding musicianship.@@graefinvveldenz

Lucky you; that had to be freakin' awesome, and then some.

Chick was unreal
That solo towards the end....I love Al Di Meola but Chick says far more in half the time!

Agree but have to be thankful the BBC, WDR (German), NRK (Norwegian) networks recorded this and have this in their archive at all...
Cry your eyes out rappers
White comes off better here than on the original release.
They are all jaw-dropping but he shows here what beast he is….

Al De Meola on acoustic guitar
Damn. This footage is disappointing. Anyone know a better video?
voce sabe aonde foi gravado? Eu vi eles no Fox Theatre em Atlanta entre 1976-1980. Parece ser da serie da BBC Old Grey Whistle Test
Glad Al finally got fashion sense in his solo career and stopped "dressing up" in his finest T-shirt !!!###
The fabulous four!!
