The first time I saw RTF was 78, they opened up for Santana, I never hear anything like that. I was Hypnotized, I was hooked, then witnessed something I never seen before, Al De meola came back on stage and closed the show out with Santana on his last song. Awesome 👌

This album literally changed my musical life back in the late 70's, and when I turned my friends on to it, it changed their's too! One of the rare albums that some 45 years later, it's still just as amazing as when I first heard it! Chick Corea and the band created a true masterpiece!
The album is magical, mystical, deeply engaging with its listener. It’s so rare that nothing has been or ever will be recorded like it ever again. Like you, for me it changed the literal meaning of music and where it could take you if you would open your mind and imagination.

I didn't really "get" it when it came out. Now however, wow! I managed to find a really good copy on vinyl and I consider it one of the finest albums in both fusion and progressive rock.
Stumbled across "Romantic Warrior" when I was looking through some guy's record collection when I was about 10 years old (cos the cover looked cool). I dubbed it to cassette and played myself to sleep with it for at least a decade. Quirky, experimental, awesome musicianship. Just found an old mint LP yesterday at a record market - pure gold.
I love Lenny White. I also love Alex Acuna of Weather Report. Because both of them have THE SOUND if you know what I mean. This electric jazz - fusion sound. They are not as "metronomic" as Billy Cobham and not as "jazzy" as other great jazz drummers. They are just spot on for this sort of music if you know what I mean...

Romantic Warrior is a must listen for any person looking into the jazz fusion genre. There isn't a weak cut on the album. It may be the best jazz fusion album ever when looked at in that regard.
Saw this GREAT band in Des Moines, IA in 197? Was the BEST concert I have ever been too. Think there were only about 200 of us in the crowd, and we all sat on the floor VERY close to the band. All 4 musicians are tremendous on their own, but together it was unbelievable. So blessed that I was there. Listen to the Romantic Warrior CD often. The fantastic music will never die !!!

Most underrated group of all decades, at Chick Corea's direction. Do yourself a favor and give this masterpiece a listen to. They never seemed to be commercially oriented toward massive FM-airplay, yet all have had successful individual careers following its latter 70's days. This is what Jazz Rock Fusion is essentially all about.

They were doing this back in the 70s....musically ahead of their time........My friend Lee Worden turned me onto them....and Bill Laswell turned Lee onto them.....they are awesome.

The journey of these marvelous musicians is absolutely incredible. I was a 3 chord guitar player with a great voice. Practicing in a basement in 79' for a highschool talent show. When a friend walks in with Elegant Gypsy. I had to backtrack to RTF. To this amazing band. WTF!
Wow. I realized I have been listening to RTF for 50 years. My very first album I ever owned, which I still have, Where have I known you before. I think I own them all. The precision is still a sonic thing of beauty. Thanks for posting this. Awesome.
I taught myself to play drums to the Romantic Warrior Album back in the 70's...High School.....Now THAT ............was an unbelievable experience..................very empowering! This is even better than the album.
Magnificent musicianship, brilliant compositions, need I say more? I saw them at The Dorothy Chandler Pavillion in Los Angeles after the release of this recording, and still today, was the best concert I have ever experienced. Now shortly thereafter, I met Chick at a Scientology center, and a few years later, met Lenny White with his band after performing at The Old Waldorf in San Francisco. Both Chick and Lenny were very polite and gracious. RIP Chick you are still missed.
I met Lenny White during the Big City tour. He focuses on the groove, and gets big sound without much physical effort. He does not attempt to fill every space with drums. I love the anticipation in his solos and his playing. "Wolfbane" is another selection I love by Lenny White during his post RTF recordings.
Now-forgotten? I'd say both bands are pretty equally remembered: very niche, most people would have never heard of them, but there's definitely a lot of people loving the music.
Just saw Al in Milwaukee. inspiring to say the least. He told the story about he was asked to join RTF. He's such a joy to watch and bless his history with this band. Such positivity in this live performance. I'm always amazed what was presented on TV in regards to bands during this era. Bravo.

I actually watched this concert . it was broadcast on tuesday 16th marrch 1976 on the bbc 2 channel at about 6pm. i was mesmerised by the compositions and the virtuosity of the players. Watching stanley clarke led to me buying a bass guitar and onto an electric upright bass. i will always remember this concert . It changed my musical tastes forever. Thanks for posting. brilliant!
I was the chief music critic at my college paper at University of Vermont. The band did a small press conference which I covered. My best friend was visiting from NJ and was tripping. Yup, it was '76. He asked Stanley if the pre-show KFC fried chicken meal was to lube up his fingers for his bass playing later....
These four are just so f ing amazing. This never gets old. Romantic Warrior and Where Have I Known You Before are 2 of the best albums ever made. I bought each one on vinyl for my brother on his birthday when I was a kid. He hated them. Oops...well SOMEONE had to listen to them.

One of the greatest-if not the greatest-Jazz Fusion Band ever and Romantic Warrior, simply a "Perfect Album". 4 Super Virtuosos. Before Return to Forever and after them, there was and there not exist nothing even similar..I really hope, that they soon "Return again to Forever" Anthör Zeît Geîst
i saw them play this music in 1977 in Berkeley, ca in 1977 (i think). in the top 3 moments of my life. there was nothing like this in the day. ... and i am proud to say i heard this amazing tune coming over the AM radio on KRE AM/FM, same year ... a tune called 'Fred' ... Alan Holdsworth ... the golden age of jazz fusion ... i also saw billy cobham w/ john scofield about the same time, and the mahavishnu band (john McLaughlin) ... i did see Led Zepplin on the day on the green in those days, but that wasnt very good ... saw tommy bolin and robin trower at winterland, that was good, esp TB (rip) ... my friend invited me to see the Who in those days, but i said i wasnt interested, he never understood why ... but looking back, maybe i should have gone
...Ahh, 1977 at Berkeley must have been sublime! We were all getting along, calling each other brother, awesome era with the female persuasion... A lot of love and the music represented it well..The greek coliseum (on Berkeley campus) is a killer place to see a concert...Saw Crimso there in 83 while in the service...
I was a teen in the 70's, I wish I had gotten into more fusion like this then...I was more a prog head with Genesis, Yes, Giant, Crimso et al. That was a full time thing...Of course I knew about all of them except Lenny...But RTF didn't make it onto my radar until I was in my 50's...Like finding 5 grand in a pair of pants you had in the closet..:)...
I would have loved to be a teen in the 70s... What a great time for music it was, so many good and talented bands and artists. I am a classical pianist but in my journey of musical discovery I started with prog rock, then prog metal and I am getting into jazz fusion now. Amazing music!
@@victormontielpiano Prog and Fusion lack the complexities of classical like Mahler or Rachmaninov, but, it's fun to listen to...Lyrics, drums and Bass add a different dimension that you don't find in classical...Jazz, Classical and the other genres are lifelong pursuits...I figured I have more than 200000 hours of music listening and I barely scratched the surface....:)...Thanks for the comment.
Saw this band in 1975, 1976, and 2008. Stunning every time. Met Stanley Clarke after the last show. We were marveling that we were both much younger back in 1975.
I grew up on this music in St Louis, MO. thanks to my big brother. I was only 12 or 13. I'm 59! and I still love it. Four of the BEST that ever did it!!
Special time.. special musicians... music had a different sense of spirit and adventure in those days. Some of it worked and some of it didn't. But, and maybe I'm biased cuz I came of age musically at that time, there was a different kind of honesty searching for new sounds and approaches that were relevant. Cats still seemed to want to play for beauty and craft and uplift, not just for money. Maybe I'm being romantic but... "Romantic Warrior," in that live rendition, is a jazz/musical classic. Its just as relevant as Miles' "So What," or many of the other straight ahead jazz classics that are considered canon for today.
There's just as many great players now. The reason they're not as prominent is cause the suits in charge nowadays are nothing but corporate bean counters who ARE only interested in $$$. Back in the day, the suits (perhaps the majority) were music lovers. That's my theory anyway.
How true. This stuff, the best of prog rock, all that and more was GENUINE, and in search of aural EXPERIENCE. Today..I dunno where to look for this kind of stuff..

It is with Honor to say have seen this Band more then10 times , and have spoken to Chick as well as Al an Mr. White , these are very HUMBLE men , but the music they produce is a key deep in the HEART where VISIONS Live of a better DAY , let us not be SAD because of loss but REJOICE in what has been SHARED , it has given US a More focused Vision , to that what really MATTERS , a better WORLD
After all these years Chick and the Company are still great. Back in the early 70s this music had such a influence on my guitar and keyboard/synth playing and still does. It was a great time for innovation and fusion.
They are Absolutely Nailing it.. And Romantic Warrior is One of Their Very Best (Tho All Their Albums are Masterpieces) But I Think When They Recorded Romantic Warrior they Were Completely in Their Zone.. Rest in Power Chick 💖💖

What I find fascinating about Lenny White's playing is it is truly ambidextrous. No apparent dominant hand. So incredibly fluid.

I remember riding around in my friend Larry's 67 camaro listening to Romantic warrior until the sun come up....the 70s ..what a time it was.

I saw them OPEN for a now-forgotten band called "Renaissance" at the Philadelphia Spectrum on this tour. They were FIRE.
Now-forgotten? I'd say both bands are pretty equally remembered: very niche, most people would have never heard of them, but there's definitely a lot of people loving the music.

Just saw Al in Milwaukee. inspiring to say the least. He told the story about he was asked to join RTF. He's such a joy to watch and bless his history with this band. Such positivity in this live performance. I'm always amazed what was presented on TV in regards to bands during this era. Bravo.
This was my intro to Jazz. Haha. Nevertheless, is anyone else hearing this as...mindbending still to this day? I dig Lenny White. My goodness this is off the charts. Who knew Lenny composed the Sorceress? lol hahaha. I used to jam this on my way to surf La Jolla.
I actually watched this concert . it was broadcast on tuesday 16th marrch 1976 on the bbc 2 channel at about 6pm. i was mesmerised by the compositions and the virtuosity of the players. Watching stanley clarke led to me buying a bass guitar and onto an electric upright bass. i will always remember this concert . It changed my musical tastes forever. Thanks for posting. brilliant!
Yeah Stanley Clark is one of the outstanding bass guitar players, also love Tal Wilkenfeld.

I was the chief music critic at my college paper at University of Vermont. The band did a small press conference which I covered. My best friend was visiting from NJ and was tripping. Yup, it was '76. He asked Stanley if the pre-show KFC fried chicken meal was to lube up his fingers for his bass playing later....
These four are just so f ing amazing. This never gets old. Romantic Warrior and Where Have I Known You Before are 2 of the best albums ever made. I bought each one on vinyl for my brother on his birthday when I was a kid. He hated them. Oops...well SOMEONE had to listen to them.
Saw this on OGWT and I went out next day and purchased the album.......just blew me away...must have heard this album a 1000 times since..thank heaven for cd...poor old vinyl wrecked after so much playing

i saw them play this music in 1977 in Berkeley, ca in 1977 (i think). in the top 3 moments of my life. there was nothing like this in the day. ... and i am proud to say i heard this amazing tune coming over the AM radio on KRE AM/FM, same year ... a tune called 'Fred' ... Alan Holdsworth ... the golden age of jazz fusion ... i also saw billy cobham w/ john scofield about the same time, and the mahavishnu band (john McLaughlin) ... i did see Led Zepplin on the day on the green in those days, but that wasnt very good ... saw tommy bolin and robin trower at winterland, that was good, esp TB (rip) ... my friend invited me to see the Who in those days, but i said i wasnt interested, he never understood why ... but looking back, maybe i should have gone

...Ahh, 1977 at Berkeley must have been sublime! We were all getting along, calling each other brother, awesome era with the female persuasion... A lot of love and the music represented it well..The greek coliseum (on Berkeley campus) is a killer place to see a concert...Saw Crimso there in 83 while in the service...
I remember seeing this on a some uhf station in New York back in the 80's. Thought I died and went to heaven.

I was a teen in the 70's, I wish I had gotten into more fusion like this then...I was more a prog head with Genesis, Yes, Giant, Crimso et al. That was a full time thing...Of course I knew about all of them except Lenny...But RTF didn't make it onto my radar until I was in my 50's...Like finding 5 grand in a pair of pants you had in the closet..:)...
I would have loved to be a teen in the 70s... What a great time for music it was, so many good and talented bands and artists. I am a classical pianist but in my journey of musical discovery I started with prog rock, then prog metal and I am getting into jazz fusion now. Amazing music!
@@victormontielpiano Prog and Fusion lack the complexities of classical like Mahler or Rachmaninov, but, it's fun to listen to...Lyrics, drums and Bass add a different dimension that you don't find in classical...Jazz, Classical and the other genres are lifelong pursuits...I figured I have more than 200000 hours of music listening and I barely scratched the surface....:)...Thanks for the comment.

Saw this band in 1975, 1976, and 2008. Stunning every time. Met Stanley Clarke after the last show. We were marveling that we were both much younger back in 1975.

I grew up on this music in St Louis, MO. thanks to my big brother. I was only 12 or 13. I'm 59! and I still love it. Four of the BEST that ever did it!!
Special time.. special musicians... music had a different sense of spirit and adventure in those days. Some of it worked and some of it didn't. But, and maybe I'm biased cuz I came of age musically at that time, there was a different kind of honesty searching for new sounds and approaches that were relevant. Cats still seemed to want to play for beauty and craft and uplift, not just for money. Maybe I'm being romantic but... "Romantic Warrior," in that live rendition, is a jazz/musical classic. Its just as relevant as Miles' "So What," or many of the other straight ahead jazz classics that are considered canon for today.
There's just as many great players now. The reason they're not as prominent is cause the suits in charge nowadays are nothing but corporate bean counters who ARE only interested in $$$. Back in the day, the suits (perhaps the majority) were music lovers. That's my theory anyway.
How true. This stuff, the best of prog rock, all that and more was GENUINE, and in search of aural EXPERIENCE. Today..I dunno where to look for this kind of stuff..

It is with Honor to say have seen this Band more then10 times , and have spoken to Chick as well as Al an Mr. White , these are very HUMBLE men , but the music they produce is a key deep in the HEART where VISIONS Live of a better DAY , let us not be SAD because of loss but REJOICE in what has been SHARED , it has given US a More focused Vision , to that what really MATTERS , a better WORLD
After all these years Chick and the Company are still great. Back in the early 70s this music had such a influence on my guitar and keyboard/synth playing and still does. It was a great time for innovation and fusion.
Who here saw RTF at the Calderone Theater on Long Island on 11-12-1975 when the show was delayed several hours but the band played into the wee hours?
They are Absolutely Nailing it.. And Romantic Warrior is One of Their Very Best (Tho All Their Albums are Masterpieces) But I Think When They Recorded Romantic Warrior they Were Completely in Their Zone.. Rest in Power Chick 💖💖

I was born in 1974....but my aunts listen this band everyday. The same with Grover w. Bob James and so many others that are still part of my life.
Times and taste is/are certainly changing.
This used to be popular music in the 70's.
