- The Legio Custodes get their own army list in the new Liber Imperium book so in this video I'll go through how it works, what all the units are and how you can build them from either the Forge World kits or the plastic 40k Custodes kits.

I do love my golden boys. I play them all the time in 40k but just recently started getting into them in 30k, luckily all the infantry in my army are magnetised so adding extra options and arms to represent all the additional weapons available in 30k has been a fun pet project for a while now
Kitbash tip. If you got the Heresy box and have terminator combi bolters and power fists left over, you can use those bits on the plastic Custodes termies and make them Aquilons.
FYI for Haetaron Guard: even though they can take a presidium shield AND axe or spear, they won't be able to use those weapons if equipped with the shield. The shield rules say "models with a presidium shield do not gain an extra attack when charging and can not make attacks in the assault phase with weapons that have the 2-handed special rule". So unfortunately no spear/axe bros with shields.

There's something satisfying about fielding an entire army of champions. As if any single normal troop would have constituted a hero unit in any other army. And you're just saying, "what if I just threw a couple dozen of those guys at a problem?"
It helps that, despite the kits being newer (and thus costlier to build than second hand plastics from the 90s), you'll end up buying, building, and painting far fewer of them.
The custodes are always such an interesting faction. In some ways I think they still represent the strangeness of the early Imperium as it is being born in 30k, and what remains of it in 40k. They have a distinctly this is recognisable as being produced by humans whilst also not looking human at all
My favorite army! I love how few models it takes to make a usable army, and how while they usually have only one option for any given niche, they pretty much always have *one* option for a given niche. You can always find a Custodes unit that does what you want; and you usually don't have to overanalyze which one you want.
Plus it's just fun to be to Space Marines what Space Marines are to most other factions.

Awwww man I love all the Forgeworld Custodes stuff. If they did them in plastic and sold them much cheaper, I would definitely break down and buy everything.
I'm sure with cavill involved with the 5v projects he's going to be dropping serious hints about new custodes plastic models, especially I he ends up playing valdor like he wants. New plastic custodes to tie in with a series could work well potentially

fantastic video. I am now really buzzing for the Sisters of Silence section. Because it looks like those entries in the Liber Imperium appears to be expanded so it will be interesting if I need to convert/modify.
Whilst you can equip shield and spear, and shield and axe on haeteron guard, the praesdium shield doesn't allow you to use two handed close combat weapons which means you can't attack with them in close combat (this is a change from heresy 1.0 where there was no such restriction on the shield

If ever there was a faction to use with the AL Mobius Configuration WL trait, it is this one. They can be counted to stick until you make your reserve roll and bring in your other forces.

Besides that, could you maybe do a video on the different makers of models that are available? I have no idea why some models are by GW themselves while others are made by a subsidiary of them Forgeworld. What's that about? This could be a bigger video about the History of Games Workshop. Gw makes the plastic models and fw makes the unique and specialised models in resin. Its kinda that simple. Basically the really big stuff is typically going to be fw resin (such as the titans and tau manta) whereas the baneblade and knights are kinda as big as gw currently goes in plastic.
I really wish we got some of the cool FW stuff in plastic. I love the Venatari and the Custodes vehicles, but damn if they aren't expensive
Get some Grey Knight falchions and you are all good on Meridian Blades. And the falchions were not really taken in 9th edition 40K so there are probably a lot out there if you know someone that plays GK in your local area.
I just binged your Eisenhorn and Revanor book club videos and if you liked those then i STRONGLY recommend you read the Watchers of the Throne trilogy by Chris Wraight. ...dogged Inquisitors, deadly female assassins, mystery, intrigue...it has it all.

There are some awesome STL files out there so, your 3d printer is an excellent and cheap place to find them.
New custodes player here (started with them 3 months ago as my 4th army in 40k and maybe will pick up 30k with them)
I find it a missed chance that hey didn't give them land raiders (like in 40k) and the new Spartan assault tanks. (ok in the fluff they have hovering ones... but heyho I wont cry about it)
Not including Allarus terminators or vertus praetors in was a bad idea.
Custodes should also be relatively easy to paint. Just dip 'em in Gold and you are 95% done.
Great video Custodes are cool looking, but price point is too high to run a full force (for me).
Would it be possible to go back and do the HH 2.0 Knight Rules? I really want to enjoy HH2.0, however I play Knights as they are my favourite faction lore wise; and despite having many changes that make them feel more fun in certain aspects It doesn't seem to be clicking enjoyment wise. I am wondering if I am simply not comprehending something about how they are meant to be played that inhibits my enjoyment and am wondering if a rules rundown will help me.

i feel like the emperor whenever i play custodes in that i cannot bear to actually play custodes because it makes me too sad to take casualties
I don't think I can ever collect custodes, I love them so much, was considering buying a 3rd party version not long befpre burning of prospero broight them official models, and I was so happy...
And then GW decided to make two different custodes ranges, one in plastic and one in resin, amd the plastic range wasn't able to be used in heresy! 7 years later I'm still salty, even now with plastic heresy kits galore, heresy custodes reside in resin...
They sculpted whole new terminators and jetbikes just to force heresy players to buy resin from forge world after giving us hope that heresy would come to plastic...
And now I'm in a position where I could buy forge world custodes if I wanted to, I can't bc every time I'd look at them I'd be reminded of GW treated it's most dedicated fanbase the HH players
In 40k the different custodes factions had different color schemes. Is this the case in 30k, or are all gold and red?
There's no official listed colour schemes for subfactions, but non-gold ones wouldn't look out of place.

Is the Custodes Christmas Box a good way to start a HH army?
Hmm. Depends. It has the 40k Jetbikes and terminators which TECHNICALLY you can't use in heresy. But if you're up for doing some weapon conversions and your local group are cool then I'm sure it's fine.

Only annoying thing about this book in the magisterium Vexilla option for example u cannot take a Vexilla and guardian for the basic squad the sentinel gaurd unit cannot take the shield and Vexilla combo and the sagittarius unit can take one with a adrathic destructor which there isn't a model weapon for fairly annoying hopefully they will faq with other options
So no old plastic being added to the Heresy list and no old run being moved to plastic but we DID lose the ability to bring Sisters with us?

Sisters got a whole new list with lots of new entries, and I guess they can still be allied in to a Custodes list. It's very possible that some of this stuff might be moved to plastic too, we don't know yet.
@@ArbitorIan I guess. I don't have the book so I could be wrong but the way you put it made it sound like the Sisters were a separate army entirely which would be odd since they finally fixed it so the Talons were all one army in 9th.
I was also really hoping to be able to use my plastic bikes since you literally get 3 of them for cost of 1 resin bike and those prices are just criminal.
There's always other options though🏴☠️
They are. Totally different list, but 30k allows for allied detachments so you could still field Custodes and Sisters in the same force if you want
You continue to mention "Solerite power gauntlet and Power Talons, which don't seem to be available anywhere yet", but aren't these the same as the Aquilons have? Yeah, that's not easy access, but they exist.
Yeah, you can get them in terminator scale in that kit, but you can't buy them in any other readily available kit, and not scaled for a regular custodian

Really sucks they didn’t roll in the terminators and bikes from 40k, maybe there is a lore reason but still.
I think - but I'm not totally sure - that it might be the other way around, because Custodes were released for heresy a few years before getting a 40k codex.
So possibly more that, when expanding the army for 40k, the design team decided on new 40k termies and bikes instead of making the FW ones plastic

They were bloody terrifying in HH1. I remember facing an army of about 20 a few years back with my Militia and a Baneblade, a Stormlord, two Malcadors and some Leman Russes didn't make a dent!
They are very bad now. They will murder anything in melee however with just a 6++ and no shooting just hold back and counter attack. Dreadnoughts have no brutal so are easily countered by the legion contemptors. The best custodes army will be a horde of guardians just running across the field.
