This is a simple step by step tutorial on how to make your own waterproof fleece pads to go in the guinea pigs cage, using cheap and easy to find materials. No sewing machine required! Fleece bedding is great and guinea pigs love it, but the fleece can get dirty quick. Waterproof fleece pads are easier to wash and keep your liners fresher for longer. These pads will last years!

Just tried this at home and made a couple of waterproof fleeces which worked very well in the cage for my two piggies! I don’t have the machine so I just sewed them by my hands, took a while but it was really fun! I used pet pads for my piggies before and not happy with that as the liquid can flow back easily when piggies stepped or lie on it so I have to changed it twice a day. The best part about those fleeces is that you can get it with the perfect size for your cage! Highly recommend everyone to try this and this video is amazing !

I made two sets of pads per “pee and poo spots”. After 2-3 days, I switch out the used pad for the back up pad. After another 2-3 days, the whole set gets replaced with another set of fleece cage liners and coordinating pads are put into the cage. So far, this schedule has kept the cage from getting smelly!

Just wanted to thank you for this video. I spent hardly any money making my liners from material I already had at home. Only bought a waterproof sheet. My piggies sat in their house for two hours paralyzed after I put in the fleece. Then magic happened. Peach looked so happy running around on this solid material underneath her feet. She has been jumping and running and exploring. So cute. Daisy is more of a laid back one, but she does look happy too. 🥰

TYSM for sharing this video. I don't have piggies, but I hv a new puppy n wanted an alternative to disposable pads. I used to make reusable menstrual pads and had a lot of leftover material so decided to make reusable piddle pads instead of purchasing. The mattress protector I got for 20$ off Amazon (KING SIZE!) and I've made 3 so far with over half left over. I used Zorb for the absorbent layer since I already had it on hand, and cute fleece out of my stash as well. They are PERFECT! She learned so quickly where to potty. But every time I make a new 1 I check ur video to remind myself of the order of the materials. Mine are much larger, but same exact concept. So, ty again, for sharing. Well done piggy mama 👏 😘 ❤️

What is it that you're using in the middle for the middle layer the waterproof layer?I have made these before but I used it with a different material as the waterproof layer I'm just curious cuz that looks like it absorbs better

Mine have three layers: 1. Fleece (top layer), 2. Mattress protector (or towels, or polyester batting or other absorbent material for the middle layer) and then 3. Waterproof mattress protector for the bottom layer. I put the waterproof layer on the bottom rather than in the middle, I like it this way as the pads are less bulky and only need one layer of fleece 😊

@@SqueakDreams so can I do the same but for layer 1 will be fleece the. Layer 2 will be the absorbent mattress material and layer 3 another piece of fleece?

    I NEED to make these!!!
I love a sewing project ;) and my new piggies are hella messy 😅 love the girlies but I think they’ll like some soft fleece pads! (And they’ll spare mummy some of the insanity of all that paper bedding Oof ...)
So far I’m using some fleece airplane blankets (yes I’m the person to keeps those ahhhhh but they’re handy now!!) and now I need to add the other two layers, bc yeah these girls are messy :’D
