    Raksi is a strong drink, clear like vodka or gin, tasting somewhat like Japanese sake. It is usually made from kodo millet (kodo) or rice; different grains produce different flavors. It is made by distilling a chhaang, a brewed alcoholic drink.The Limbus and Kirati people , for whom it is a traditional beverage, drink tongba and raksi served with pieces of pork, water buffalo or goat meat sekuwa. For the Newars, aila is indispensable during festivals and various religious rituals as libation, prasad or sagan.
    In CNN's list of the world's 50 most delicious drinks, raksi was ranked 41st and was described as follows: "made from millet or rice, raksi is strong on the nose and sends a burning sensation straight down your throat that resolves itself into a surprisingly smooth, velvety sensation. Nepalese drink this home brew to celebrate festivals, though some think that the prized drink itself is the reason to celebrate.
    Because of its popularity, various temperance movements exist in Nepal, including various women's groups. Raksi, however, remains an important requirement of various religious rituals and social events, due in part perhaps to its antiseptic properties.

    Sir, had the same praises in my mind when I had 'mahua' in purulia 9:29 . Did not have the taste for Two Indies even, after having the drink.

    This is brewed in my house too, and i love it soo much. And reason behind its goodness is we dont use market yeast for malt, we use Morcha(Medicinal Herbs) which prepared by combinations of about 25 to 100s herbs from hills and mountains. And is matured for only 3 to 6 months and brewed by using copper and clay utensils(brewer) which gives it authentic Kodo ko Raksi taste.

      Wow, lots of. Information and so nicely explained.. Hats off Sir..
      I am keen to taste pure and authentic Rakshi. I have tried 2-3 times but I think it was diluted excessively..
      The punch was missing which I like the most in any liquor..
      But I must say Rakshi is amazing drink, a must try for all alcohol lovers..

    Local Alchohal cant Be As Smooth as u r Dewcribing...Adlnd there will be certainly a kick in local Nepalese alchohal....I can See U r Given Local Alchohal mixed with water...There is half water and half alchohal for sure

      I think there is a little difference between Madua and Kodo..
      Not very much sure..
      Please provide full details if you have..
