Inside Mark D. Sikes's West Hollywood Home

- Nestled in the hills of West Hollywood, Mark D. Sikes 1930s Recency home acts as a calling card for his own style beloved by so many. When he and partner Michael Griffin moved into the home, the structure and lay out were what they fell in love with first. They soon began renovations, expanding the kitchen, masterfully breathing new life into the outdoor spaces, and opening up the sunken rooms. Sikes' masterful mix is seen in every room from the all-over check in the formal dining room, to the sisal and silk nuances, and the chinoiserie and canvas galore -- all commanding new world elegance and California cool.
Perhaps one of the most notable features of the home is the back garden. With all the back-arched-windows opening up to the space, the view plays an integral part in the home's whimsy. Having planted most of the garden nearly ten years ago, the lush walls of fig ivy and ficus have grown to create the most intimate spot that Sikes himself call his "favorite place." When sitting in the garden, one wouldn't believe you are only a stones throw away from Sunset Boulevard.

Mark isn't pretentious, which comes across as genuine and welcoming. Even though I can tell he is an introvert, his designs seem so hospitable, open, and inviting.

So lovely! Mark is right: the garden looks like you could be somewhere a world away from Hollywood, like a terrace in Italy. The gingham walls with the Chinoiserie panels make both look so fresh. I love that he still has his magazine collection and has made bookshelves such a priority throughout the home.

@@Schumacher1889 hahaha “More Beautiful” is the name of Mark’s book that follows his previous “Beautiful” although… “Stunning” should be the name for the third in the series hahaha
This makes my eyes feel so good. I have seen a lot of beautiful homes but this one is a step above and almost gives you that sense of astonishment when you see a Cartier diamond bracelet sparkle for the first time. There is a lot going on and all of it together is very pretty.
