He should been awarded best actor for his role in this movie...
He handled full auto on that m14 like a champ. I’m just saying
Was thinking the same. Poor trigger discipline but he managed the recoil very well.
@@archerpiperii2690 Those are blanks, so no much merit there. His handgun drill in Collateral, though...
I've fired a full auto M-14. It's the reason we went to the M16. And you don't use any rifle like a bullet hose.
@@brucetucker4847 US went to the M16 because McNamara and his "whiz kids" in the Pentagon believed a fully auto 5.56 calibre was a better option, it also allowed a soldier to carry more of the smaller ammo. The first version of the M16 were terrible, and got a lot of troops killed in Vietnam.
@@RS-rj5sh it was a mixture of the ammo, the rifles, and cleaning kits not being standard issue to every man. The M16 was SUPPOSED to have a chrome lined barrel. The fat cats in their offices decided that was too "costly", soldiers got uncoated barrels. The burn rate for the powder was too slow and thus left unburt powder/fowling much more than usual. Also, when a gun gets wet and you shoot it making the barrel hot the water burns off and it instantly oxidizes (rusts). So a rusty bolt running on rusty rails shoving bullets into a rusty chamber. The bureaucrats in office at the time cost a lot of American casualties!
What does Tom Cruise have to do exactly to win an Oscar? His acting was so superb in Born on the Fourth of July and yet he was overlooked and has been consistently overlooked. For anyone that hasn’t seen it watch Born on the Fourth of July. That movie will stay with you for a very long time.
Your right. Of all the films this man has done, his performance in this is Oscar worthy for sure.
Cruise is not a great actor, but rather, a movie star. He plays a variant of the same character in every film he's in. Actors like Daniel Day Lewis (Lincoln), Meryl Streep (Iron Lady), and Jamie Foxx (Ray) are a different breed. They could help you forget it was an actor on screen, and furthermore, make people believe it was the character up there. With every new film he makes, we never forget it's Cruise on screen. John Wayne had the same issue.
That said, "Born on the Fourth of July" was definitely one of Cruise's better efforts. Even so, I can't think of any film in which he successfully changed shape such that we forgot it's him up there. So what if he doesn't get an Oscar? He'll have to settle for being a multi-zillionaire. He's worked his butt off, no question, but I can't think of him as a victim of unfairness.
@@jeffreyjohnson9821 I think Rain Man was his best, but he got overshadowed by Dustin Hoffman going slightly less than full retard
He was a good marine and got unlucky is probably a better title.
He’s not a soldier; he’s a marine.

This scene and the ambush scene in forrest gump shows u that everything went wrong for U.S. Combatants in Vietnam..This crushes my spirit!😔
Million dollar wound yet kept going.
Radio guy always cops it.
Yep stood out a mile with that whip antenna. Usually stood next to LT too so shots usually came in to take them both out
That's Dale Dye. Doubt he's ever missed a war movie appearance since Nam.
*He got shot and kept on fighting. I'd say he's a damn good marine that just got unlucky.*
Sergeant Ron Kovic: Hey 👋
Bro, nobody can handle an M14 on full auto with no recoil, smh.
Sure they can - when they're shooting blanks.
Sure ya can. As long as the moon is your target.
yeah, don't ever sit upright in a firefight...
Tom Cruise did not play a soldier, he played a Marine. A really big difference, especially back then, that the typical U.S. civilian has never been able to differentiate.
That makes perfect sense. Because a marine is marine and a soldier's in the Army. But as grunts, both branches have the same objective terminate with extreme prejudiced.
@@SciRado Today's military is a woke joke. The USMC doesn't really even exist any longer, at least as a combined arms capable branch. It's been destroyed by the globalists.
I was taught in the Army that what can be seen can be hit, and can be hit can be killed.
Don't be seen.
Bad how?
He's a Marine, not a soldier.

Marines are naval infantry. Army infantry has done more amphibious landings than the marines. As a former soldier I respect that they can shoot and march. Cool basic stuff. As a former 1/509th OPFOR soldier I will tell you that at the end of the day gunfighters win. He done goofed.

I have seen this movie one time and it's enaugh !
Marines, or naval infantry, are soldiers who specialise at operating in littoral zones, both on land and at sea.
Historically, the main tasks undertaken by marines have included raiding ashore in support of naval objectives, and the boarding of vessels during combat or capture of prize ships.
Marines also help maintain discipline and order aboard the ship (reflecting the pressed nature of the ship's company and the risk of mutiny).
In most countries, marines are an integral part of the navy.
We are not soldiers....call that to the other countries but here in the US we are Marines...who can be called troops. Its disrespectful to call us soldiers because unlike them we earn the title and will carry it forever.
Oh boy, somebody has bought into "Farce" Design 2030.
2:15 It says, "MARINES" in white lettering on the helicopter. This word had to have been lost in translation because French has a rule saying they all have to be females if you use that word. If they are all males and or males and females mixed together, then it's Marins with no E. after the N.
In Spanish it's either Marinero (seaman) or Infanteria de Marina (marine infantry or infantry of the marine, the same as the marines)
Being marina a female word, it is also a colloquial for the Spanish Navy branch (called officially Armada, also female)
He's not playing a soldier. He's a Marine. They are different things.
Only in the US. In Europe, which essentially created the United States (British colony and all), a soldier is any person that goes to war, carrying a rifle in his hands.
Like kar diye hai 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
What a messed up movie. Directed by Oliver Stone who was also a Vietnam war veteran. This movie was brutal especially after the war scene where he was strapped on a medical bed. fml
Movies are fake.
I was a grunt and wasn't able to immerse myself in this at all due to it being so ridiculously unrealistic. I started laughing when the Marines started running off in all directions. In reality, that unit would have assaulted thru the ambush and either beat it or died on it.

Out of 10, zero. For the retarded title.

Do marines not do a certain amount of soldierING, in th context of th battlefield situ?
Having to try to correct the video title, for th sake of separating one branch of military from another, aint saying a lot for th spirit of being brothers in arms..
Put plainly : when th US ships these guys out to wartime conflict, zillions of everyday Americans are concerned for those doing SOLDIER-like action..... Thus, we refer TO them as soldiers..
We r not, in th moment, trying to differentiate whether they r Rangers or Deltas or regular army or Marines or any other damn category....
So giv it a REST
