I love the nuance of this scene. The Nazi soldier doesn't show fear. He accepts his death like a man. This almost noble heroic music is playing as Donnie comes near. The line "bravery" frames him as a hero. Then it all goes away when the bat cracks him in the head. Donnie just beats his skull around like a polo ball. Fucking hilarious
Re: the bear Jew and his bat. I always said if you really want to hurt them start at the feet and work up. That German was dead after the 1st hit. 2nd at the most. And he didn't feel the 2nd one if he WAS still alive.
I see Inglorious Basterds as kind of an anomaly. It has these brilliant vignettes that, on their own, contain some of QT's greatest directorial achievements. The prologue with Waltz and the French farmer WILL be remembered as one of the greatest scenes in film history. But a movie is the sum of all its parts. When I reconcile the ledger I've never felt Basterds adds up to a great film. Like this scene for instance. What exactly does QT want us to take away from all this? To feel empathy and respect for the god damn German? Because that's exactly how it comes off. Our supposed "good guys" look like serial killers, not soldiers.
@@HAPPYFUNTIMEx2 I hear you, but is that really what he intended? I'm not really sold on that. This feels more like killing as a means of achieving catharsis.
That's kinda the point. Ambiguity of righteousness and heroism is what war is. You inherently seem to have black and white views of righteousness and virtue being only attributed to the Americans. There were millions of German people who saw the German soldiers as just as righteous and virtuous at the time. And yes it was brutal and cathartic murder. It is a theme of the movie along with being tactical battle plans revealed earlier in the movie. Brutalize them and leave one to tell the tale to instill more fear in their enemy.
@@andrewk7611 Cathartic to who? The audience or the sadists on the screen? Wonder what editor was used to make this video
The funny part is: the soldier being *brave* was what essentially put other soldiers lives in danger. Proved that it was a no win situation for them
I think this video was made with *Movavi video editor trial*
Donnie must be Negan's granddad lmfao
Re: the bear Jew and his bat.
I always said if you really want to hurt them start at the feet and work up.
That German was dead after the 1st hit. 2nd at the most. And he didn't feel the 2nd one if he WAS still alive.
Kneecaps pal. I guess you ain't from New Jersey.
That's QT's movies though. Ambiguity.
My point is that I don't personally believe there was any real deeper meaning to the scene except to show a highly stylized murder of a POW. And no offense guy but I was kind of in a war myself so I'd be careful before proclaiming you know "what war is."
@@BULL.173what war???
The German Sergeant was the most honorable man in this entire movie..!
Yeah i bet he was honorable as he helped murder 6 million innocent people.
Yeah it takes a rare breed to face death/torture and accept it without trying to save ones own life. I think the vast majority of us would act more like the 2nd guy.
@@cwjalexxyup. He saluted the officer, set the example, refused to betray his people to save himself and took this violent war crime like a man. This is what we used to call a "Man".
Yes the defender of a mass murdering regime was so honorable
He's...a nazi....
Are you using the Movavi Video Editor Trial?
What was this movie clip made with? I can't figure it out.
The bat 100% would’ve broke after cracking him in the skull 3-4x lol
Nope maybe 3 or 4 skulls but not hits
Really? You make base ball bats? Fuck off with your shitty view on a fucking movie bud 😘 don’t take life to seriously
Hit with the meat
It's almost like this is a movie..
Depends on the wood
The guy who plays Hugo NEEDS to be BJ blaskovich in I live action movie
I can’t help but wonder what software was used. JFC!
What was this video made with?
He stares right down that bat like a man. Now a dead man lol
Dead in physical body, but not in spirit. The spirit never dies. Now, this "dead man" can go invisibly attack the bear jews' mother and rape his sister if he wanted to. 😆
there is the HOLLYWOOD Version of WW2 and the REAL History Version of WW2, which do you choose to Believe?
Exactly how long was it from the time that Aldo carved his signature on the boy until said boy was talking to hitler? Cuz that swastika was pretty well healed...
It's also one of the inaccurate militant parts of the movie because if you're indoors you have to take your hat off in the military it's called uncovering
@@daddyfatsacksmf i have no idea what the nazi protocol was. In the US Army, we keep our cover on indoors if we're under arms.
The best scene was the opening scene at the farm. That could stand alone as a short film.
I couldn’t see adam Sandler as the bear Jew I’d just see billy Madison chasing a penguin 🐧
“Donnie?!”
“..yah?”
Get the Movavi crap off the screen so we can enjoy it
Aldo getting some white pow pow before going to work on his piece of art.
Love this scene!
