Anxiety & OCD Discernment I’m 17 years old and I’m going through hell rn. I have had no problems before this but a month ago I ate an edible and it fuked me over so bad. Ever since then I’ve had horrible anxiety ever since and I think about what I’m thinking/feeling every second. My brain doesn’t let me not think of anything else. That’s the worst part. I can’t stop thinking about it. Do you think this is PTSD? OCD? Just anxiety? I feel like I’m never going to be the same again

Drugs give you glimpses into the reality of your unconscious mind without the 'control' of the conscious mind (which gives you a fake sense of logic, reason and control.) For some people, they say "wow, I suddenly saw a whole new side of me" for others this loss of control freaks them out. We have an inside mind (unconscious) and an outside mind (conscious) - you glimpsed the inside one and it is the truth of who you are. I have lots more information about this in my Patreon course. John

I am 35 years old female coming from developed country where I suffered being bullied so many years due to being a handicapped. Now I am away from my country to pursuit for new life, It is not easy to fight against crippling anxiety coupled with physical panic attacks time to time. I totally feel you when you said you felt numb when you were trying hard to fake it so that others would see you not being weird. I did it so long that I had panic attacks last week. I could have fallen into abyss of depression but now i can not afford to being depressed anymore! So I kept on trying getting over it by watching a number of CZcams videos hoping that I was able to find some solutions in them. And your video sounds very plausible and It makes sense that i actually am OCD as well since young. I don't wash hands numerous times but there is voice telling me to do things otherwise I would get in trouble. Oh... glad to find you today. God bless you.

idk why sometimes i fall back into the trap of overthinking, doing a mental rewing and trying to calculate if what i was said was okay, or do i have to say the opposite of what i just said, incredibly annoying, sometimes feels like it happens subconsciously, maybe sub means partially conscious in a sense, or like substitute teacher not sure lol, but really getting out of the way and letting your operating system(emotions update and recalibrate makes a lot more sense than torturing myself trying to desperately and endlessly look for peace and "solution" to thoughts that really just never end! OCD can be relentless guys, so its important to break out and let it "run" so to speak but stay out of the way, let the subconscious do its thing and recalibrate!

@@TheChroniclesOfCommonSense oh wow, glad I commented then, thank you John, I will watch that next!! I am planning to go on a whole binge watching session tomorrow to really renew and refresh my level of knowledge, I want to take this seriously, I know that may imply that perhaps I wasn't in the first place, well at least I am far more aware with sabotaging patterns than I used to be. I noticed my old thoughts tend to kick in more during when im doing things I tend to enjoy or get excited about, (watch a good anime, playing games with friends etc) it's almost like part of me doesn't want to enjoy or be happy, I ask myself if I think I am deserving to be happy, and sometimes I feel like part of me says "no you dont!" So it can be difficult feeling this way having this internal conflict, when you consciously are thinking or saying "Yes! of course I deserve to be happy!" You feel like it's a little demon or voice arguing with you at times, but yes John also mentions that it can be looked at as a parasite which is really helpful way to look at it in order to gain a better perspective on what we are dealing with!

I was diagnosed with OCD when I was 11 or 12. I’m 31 now. In 2002, I went to the funeral of a lady that was in charge of lunch detention at the middle school I went to. I haven’t been the same since. To this day, I have thoughts of people in caskets. If I don’t like someone, I picture them in a casket. No big deal. But the real problem is imagining loved ones in a casket. I feel compelled to perform certain actions. If I don’t do them, it feels like I’m putting my loved ones in harms way & they’ll end up dead. I picture them in a casket. The anxiety goes away when whatever action I’m performing “feels right”. It truly drives me crazy to say the least. Thoughts?

    • @TheChroniclesOfCommonSense
      @TheChroniclesOfCommonSense  Před 4 lety +1

Yeah, this happens. A part of your brain called the amygdala has been conditioned to pattern match caskets to loss and fear, from that initial event. That part is not on the same circuits as language or thoughts - so you can think about it all day and it won't reprogram that part - It will just keep firing off an old out of date fear response, which will exhaust you. In my video 8 I teach how to reprogram that part of the brain. Regards

Existential OCD is just GAD running in a philosophical person. They are looking for meaning in an emotion or a fear - good luck with that! It is a dead-end street. You need to learn to be comfortable with fear and strange thoughts without giving them any meaning. This usually happens to intelligent individuals who feel a little special, different or unique - Like Enneagram type 4's.

Hi, this is very common, horrible thoughts about harming, drowning, throwing down stairs, suffocating etc. I work with this most weeks. It normally comes on 6 months before or 6 months after childbirth and is related to tiredness and worry and mostly happens to "nice" caring mothers.
You are not going mad and are very unlikely to act on these thoughts (as you know deep down inside).
It is like your own unconscious mind is tricking you with your biggest fears, to get your attention to tell you to stop worrying, I know it sounds backwards but this is how OCD works (did you see my other video here czcams.com/video/epDVMBNXsXY/video.html)
Learning to relax, meditate and realise these thoughts are not true is key. By surrendering to the thoughts and breathing through the anxiety they generate, is step 1.
I am not a believer in desensitising by repetition of the fear - I prefer to focus on the anxiety in the body and to sit with it, let it roll through you whilst keeping a soft gentle (conscious) internal dialogue - something like "I accept or I surrender" - by being still and accepting the anxiety it passes quickly.
Regarding the thoughts they are a trick from your unconscious - just watch them, don't argue with them, don't react to them.

I got this advice about intrusive thoughts years ago..
*The second a strange thought enters your head just let it go, straight away. Don't worry one bit about it, it's just a thought. You are not crazy. I promise.*
The more you practice this the easier it gets. Just get that thought out, let it go, straight away.
The problem is we can't filter out thoughts. In fact everybody has the same thoughts, it's simply 'thinking', only we notice the 'individual' thoughts that make up thinking more. We then latch on to that 'individual' thought and overthink. It's the overthinking that causes the worry.
This has really helped. And it's simple. Just let it go, straight away.

    • @TheChroniclesOfCommonSense
      @TheChroniclesOfCommonSense  Před 4 lety +1

Anxiety and OCD are labels not diseases, so what really matters is what you are doing to lessen these conditions. You think your thoughts are real, but they are no more real than your dreams! Plus, your body thinks thoughts and dreams are true, that is why we wake up anxious from a nightmare. Unless you can learn to detach from thoughts and bodily responses you will be at the affect of your anxious thoughts. However, a desire is a thought too. To be in a relationship, to change your job, to travel etc. These thoughts are still only thoughts, but they give you hope, which is still only a feeling - but they are better thoughts and feelings! So, you need to learn how to live life by ignoring thoughts and realising that feelings don’t have to have any meaning either. To do this, you need a plan, that is what I teach in my course. John

I used to pick things quickly than others but now, it feels like i’m very dumb. My education is suffering. I want to make my mind numb so I won’t think anything. My main problem is the bad thoughts that I get. Which are not in my control. And they always appear at times when it’s most difficult to act according to what my mind suggests.

Mostly clever people get OCD, because they worry too much and create "stories" to try and explain what the OCD is doing to them.

Anxiety can be reset back to normal and OCD can be got to a state where is doesn't unnecessarily burden your life, but you will need to become a new person, not the same old person just without anxiety. John www.patreon.com/theanxietyspecialist

I am saying that for many people OCD is quite a problem in their life.
I am also saying that to get rid if it you have to think and behave in new ways (become a new person) because the OCD is the symptom of how you are currently thinking and behaving.

Sorry you are so angry with me Peter. Please feel free to pass my information onto the FBI as helping others is not illegal. I am not a Doctor and never claimed to be. I have just produced a resource based on my own research and my own recovery from OCD.
I am an engineer. In fact, my course is called "The Engineers Guide to Understanding Anxiety."I have applied an engineers mind to how the mind and body work together and how systems influence each other - I am a coach, a teacher, a mentor, a researcher and in the UK a NHS registered complimentary therapist.
I have been working with the toughest of OCD cases for 13 years and people only come to me when they have tried everything else, so my experience is vast and deep.
My teachings just show people new ways to understand themselves and to find more calmness, no more and no less.
My course is not a scam, it is 20 years of my work put into a format that is affordable ($3 per month) because so many anxious people can't work or afford to get help.
I have been answering peoples questions here on youtube for 3 years (free of charge) which takes about 1.5 hours a day and I have made many of my videos from the course free so people can sample my work.
      Video 2 czcams.com/video/yHejSfrg_iE/video.html
      Video 3 czcams.com/video/zf1J4Vwjg9Y/video.html
      Video 6 czcams.com/video/4e4yOdHizyo/video.html
      Video 13 czcams.com/video/zbq7eFrZi1c/video.html
Delving deeper in to OCD czcams.com/video/epDVMBNXsXY/video.html
      OCD in 3 minutes czcams.com/video/5G16zAxHNbI/video.html
I also provide all my videos free of charge to many who can't afford the $3 monthly fee, I am dedicated to reducing anxiety around the world in any small way I can.
All my videos talk about how our own unconscious mind (with the logic of an 8 year old) sabotages all attempts to consciously get help for our OCD.
One of the hardest parts of OCD recovery is to accept that as a truth, it is shocking how often OCD sufferers bite the very hand that is feeding them.
About once a month I receive correspondence like this, and I truly can see where you are coming from, OCD is frustrating, scary and exhausting - plus, there are many, many scams out there, as well as, well meaning courses written by Doctors that are expensive but don't work!
I want to take onboard your feedback and I want to prove to you I am not a scammer and I do want you to have less anxiety.
Perhaps we could help each other?
Why don't I setup a FREE login to my course, where you have access to all my videos, all my posts and all my Q&A's - where you can go through the course and give me real feedback on my work?
This would help me enormously to get valid feedback on my work from a sceptic - perhaps my work is brilliant but my marketing (or positioning) is wrong?
      John
PS About once a month I get a correspondence like this, and not one (person judging me) has ever taken me up on this offer, all they do is delete their comments. I would love for you to be the first to trial me - then find me guilty (or not), rather than just jumping to a guilty verdict with no trial.
Even the FBI would have a trial before convicting me (or not.)
PPS Yes, I am good with words and a smart-ass - that is why I am an effective teacher!

I've heard this statement on previous occasions. Something is both simple and comlex. I have always had a problem with that proposition. If something is simple it seems to me the right thing to do is keep it simple. College professors. They seem to want to drive students to drink by making complex something that is as simple as pouring stuff out of a boot.
