  • My arrangement of Now Use the Light, We Want to See from the soundtrack of Ori and the Will of the Wisps, originally composed by Gareth Coker.
I'm pretty happy with this performance. Especially in terms of voicing and phrasing, I think this is a significant improvement over many of my previous videos.
The left hand melody in the opening (measure 4; 0:15) has a clear shape and direction (at least according to my interpretation). None of the notes sound out of place.
The dynamic variation starting at measure 31 (1:26) is much more pronounced. The left hand crescendo at measure 34 (1:33) and the subsequent decrescendo make it clear that this is the climax of the piece.
In the section at measure 51 (2:14), the top notes in the left hand are voiced above the other notes in the chord and the right hand, which is something I certainly would not have done 6 months ago. The phrasing could be more refined and have more shape, but at least sounds intentional.
Of course there's still plenty of improvements to be made.
The most egregious is in the last section (measure 93; 3:56), where the top note of the chords are overshadowed by the note right below it. I suspect this can be fixed with better fingering - I used 1-2-4, but maybe 1-3-5 would be better instead even if it makes the subsequent ornamentation a bit more difficult.
The phrasing at measure 69 (2:59) is still awkward at times. I know how I want to approach it, but the large chords are harder to control.
Many of the decisions above took place through trial and error over several months of practice. I don't think I would have taken that time with the pressures of a regular upload schedule.

This is a fabulous arrangement! What program did you use to annotate your sheets like that? It looks v useful, but I haven't yet found a solution for that yet other than printing em out and writing on them.

I currently use forScore for annotation! It's Apple only and costs 20 USD, but has a lot of nice features designed specifically for musicians. Before that I used Apple's own Books app. It works perfectly fine as a generic PDF viewer/annotator, but I moved away from it because 1. I found organizing sheet music very clunky and 2. exports were horribly inefficient (had one 10-page PDF take 100MBs).

If you don't use Apple, I know there are similar apps for Android, but I'm not familiar with them sadly.
Hope that helps. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

I've only now finished practicing your piece from Death's door and god it's great.
So um I have another suggestion for an arrangement; FAR: lone sails or FAR: changing tides, with both amazing soundtracks from Joel Schoch. There are a few pieces with mostly piano so perhaps you could arrange something? :)
And I have to say, the arrangement in this video is just as amazing as always
