• Brahms: Symphony No.2 ...
Hi Travis and Suzi! We have reached the end of our jaunt through Brahms’ music. So I thought what better way to send the great maestro back into the ether than with the finale of his Second Symphony. This thing is spectacular, and the Saito Kinen Orchestra under the direction of thr great, recently deceased Seiji Ozawa is an absolutely smoking performance. The horns at the end almost sound like a car horn! This is such an exciting way to go. Until we meet again… (Please start at 36:35 and end at 46:27.)

Absolutely beautiful!
As a trombonist, this is so fun to play! Particularly that huge chord at the end 😀 my fav Brahms symphony for sure.
Epic.
May I recommend Glenn Goulds Bach Goldberg variations. Recorded just before the best musician ever died.
When he was 20 Bernstein made a disclaimer over Gould on stage to a Brahms Concerto. He played it extremely slow.
Once he called audience evil:)
Give a listen to "The Hungarian March to the Assault" by Franz Liszt. Not only is it a kick-ass piece, but my understanding is that when ot debuted, it got the crowd so worked up that fist fights took place throughout the concert hall.
Ozawa, considered all-round, is my favourite conductor.
rip to the great seiji ozawa who recently passed away
