    I just got my 2002 Taurus. It was originally a government vehicle and I ended up getting from the guy who bought it from them. He only put 2000 miles on it in 3 years and in total, there are 59k miles on it. Got it for 3k. I was very excited to see what I could do to it but there wasn't much support from what I saw. This is a great video. Gave me a lot of ideas I could do for my own vehicle. Thank you sir!

    Sounds sweet. I have a '02 DOHC 3.0 Duratec Taurus that I'm currently replacing old parts on. New CV axels, sway bar bushings, sway bar linkages, outer tie rods, I'm not changing the inner tie rods because I need to change out the rack and pinion at some point. I have to replace the AC compressor another time too. I'll use window air conditioning until I fix that. I'm going to repaint my disc brake calipers and drum brakes red. I have installed new headlights, and I have a front nose cover (bra) that I haven't installed yet. I will install a rear spoiler another time.

      It is quite high. Over $2500 and I did most of the work. If the engine is solid and doesn't have any issues like low compression, oil burning, or knocks/ticking I'd freshen the engine up with a new oil pump, timing chain, fuel pump, and new head gaskets. Then I'd install high lift roller rocker arm's a better intake manifold and cat back exhaust. You would be in the 200+ up range. A 50+ hp boost in power.

My main issue woukd be the ECU and its programming to attempt this.

Theres not alot of tools, but they're heavy (Ironworker tools). She can take it. I replaced the rotted rear sway bar links and that helped the handling but the car sags and I lose alot of efficiency. If I could raise the whole car about 1inch in the front and 2 inches in the back I believe that would help alot. Im trying to avoid all new coilovers.

    • @ragintaurusmusclemercury7023
      @ragintaurusmusclemercury7023  Před 4 lety +4

      I am going with supercharging because it takes up less room, requires less modification, to make it work, and less tuning. 270 to 290 whp is a good number for that applicatuon. You can get more with a turbo setup but it would be more of a race application and more expensive. Building an engine with forged internals to handle the boost alone is why out of my budget for a car like a Taurus. This is a project for a street legal and affordable car that can be driven as a daily driver with the occasional trip down the quarter or eighth mile strip for fun on the weekend.

      @Joseph Did not supercharge it yet. The transmission let go and I had to get a second car so I can save up some $$$ to fix it. It is going in the shop before the summer is out. I bought a used Eaton M90 from a Pontiac Grand Prix GXP through Offer Up for $200. It needs to be rebuilt so I am going to get that soon soon. To install it you will need to by a custom intake which Tom Morana V6 Racing makes for front wheel drive and rear wheel drive setups.

I would lower it also with some lowering springs. 1 inch of lowering makes a big difference in the overall look and a handling of the car. If your car doesn't have a spoiler in the back get a rear spoiler but make sure it's the factory one. An after-market one will like cheap. A better exhaust system is also a must. I like the dual tailpipes in the back like the old SHOs plus it sounds better when you have the sound coming out of both sides in the back. For the engine I will put in a K&N air filter and maybe some roller rockers from Tom Morana Racing, and a tune. They will look good, won't rub, and it won't throw you speedometer reading off. When you order your rims make sure to get some centric rings to put on your hubs in order to prevent vibrations. They have plastic rings and aluminum. Get the aluminum ones. If you still have the stock suspension I recommend you swap them out with new struts and springs just stock replacements. Your car will drive a lot better. Especially since the car is a couple years old now.

      It is a cammed and stroked Vulcan V6. It is now 3.3L instead of a 3.0L. I will be using the Eaton M60 supercharger off of a Thunderbird Super Coupe. My car makes 220 horsepower. With the supercharger I should hit 300+.

    • @ragintaurusmusclemercury7023
      @ragintaurusmusclemercury7023  Před 4 lety +4

      Not really. Under the body the '97 to '07 are almost identical when it comes to drivetrain and suspension. I used performance suspension parts for the '97 SHO. No mods needed. You can even swap the SHO V8 into a 2000-2007 Taurus as a straight bolt in and there are some people that did the swap. Stuff like exhaust will have to be fabricated because there is little aftermarket support for the forth gen outside of some cosmetic parts.

      @@urstank980 With just a K&N filter you will see about a 3 horsepower gain. With a free flowing exhaust expect 2 or three horsepower more. The real gain is in gas mileage. When the car breath better gas mileage will go up. Before I rebuilt the engine it went from 27 mpg at 65 mph to 32 mpg. I wouldn't go with a muffler delete unless you keep the resonator on it. It will drone like crazy on the highway. Chop off the muffler and keep the resonator on it or replace the resonator with a bullet style muffler like a cherry bomb, M-80, or a Dynomax Bullet.
