Best mod to do is upgraded brake pads and rotors, being able to stop quickly is just as important as good acceleration.
@Tyler Westman Dimpled and slotted rotors are a massive improvement over stock brakes. along with high temperature pads and steel brake lines. What the hell are you on about.
@Tyler Westman most mods are just upgrades of shit your car already has like his whole list....

TRUTH. Born in 81, baby.. actually have to imports. 2014 Nissan altima low miles. 2016 Toyota camry lower miles. Selling Nissan this weekend. Any advise on how to gain roughly 35 to 40 horses would be appreciate. Know a decent bit, but have never owned Toyota til now.
As someone who has a modded Corolla I loved this video, it's got blackout tint a sub system that I couldn't live with out and I have a flowmaster. Out of the other cars I've had my Corolla has the best sound it's so loud and that's that I had to make adjustments bc I got fined like crazy(CA laws)
Mod 1: Muffler delete, it improves the sound (may not work for all cars).
Mod 2: Sway bars, connects the suspension of the wheels and improves handling.
Mod 3: Short throw shifter, it reduces the motion of shifting gears.
Mod 4: LED light bulb headlights, it may make the light bluer like xenon headlights and increase the light output to make it look nicer during night.
Mod 5: Pod filter, may increase performance or decrease but mainly makes it sound nicer.
Mod 1: Muffler Delete. You'll get tickets for that where I live. And the sound will be raspy. And you won't pass your emissions test.
Mod 4: LED/Xenon/Hyper White bulbs. I've probably had like 5 pairs of these in my life. Longest lasting pair I ever had for 8 months. Most of them died around the 4-6 month mark. So I never bought them again. I put back in my Honda oem bulbs and they lasted 5 years!
Mod 2: I agree. Sway bar makes a big difference. Especially if you can get a used one from a compatible car instead of spending $200-300 on a Progress or Eibach or whatever brand.
Muffler delete is a good way to have your entire neighborhood hate you lmao
wish i looked up that muffler deletes are fucking illegal before i tried it -_-

Most important modification to do to your car is fixing every problem the car has the moment you get it. I know some may be hard and not fun or interesting to fix, but especially mods that increase power or power deliverance will cause strain, and if you dont fix problems that also affect the points you are modifying, you're asking for problems. So please fix you're current things that dont work, and then add on the car 👌
you are right but not every power increase will cause strain. and most cars (especially japanese) will have no problems with increased power

As a fellow car guy and Toyota mechanic, I 100% agree with this list. One thing that would add about pod filters is that they make your turbo sound soo much better(if you have one). Another cheap mod you can do to really change the feel of your car is to lighten it, and get rid of all the heavy stuff. You can get rid of 60ish kg pretty easy and the difference is like night and day(unless your car is naturally really heavy)
Couldn’t removing a large amount of weight set off the weight distribution though? I feel like it wouldn’t be much of a worry for rwd cars, because of the weight of the rear diff, but since most of the stuff being removed is in the rear, couldn’t that be more of a problem for fwd cars?
@@gunnarshiverdecker8674 What are you talking about

TBH before a pod filter, consider an aftermarket drop in filter (as in one that uses the stock airbox). Super easy to install, no AFR fuckery and you'll get anywhere from a tiny to surprisingly decent power increase - they're also cheaper on average.
Very true, it's also killing two birds with one stone if you just bought the car used! I got my 328i used at 110k miles, it's an 07 so it's been around for awhile. I got a K&N drop in filter for it and when I opened the stock air box to put it in it looked like it had never been cleaned once and the filter was from 2011! Safe to say the car practically felt like it woke up once the box was cleaned with a fresh drop in filter.
Pod filters are 20$ and a lot of car u can actually attach it to the stock air intake tube. K&N filters start around $50
@@donovansimison9336 cars usually come with a cold air intake design from factory. So getting a drop-in filter will be better for performance, compared to the pod filter. And it's not very safe to put a pod filter close to the ground too...but the sound you get is worth it anyway so I'd consider it a win-win 👌
I considered a pod filter but my mate whos a mechanic says all they do is suck in warm air (cold air is good) and reduces performance, a happy medium is an aftermarket airfilter - i got a KnN high airflow one havnt used yet but sounds like the ticket cost around 100bux nzd
After watching the lemon factor intake dyno tests on an accord, unless you change the airbox, I doubt any power increase occurs
Just bought an A4 1.8T, and I did a muffler delete. It's not too loud, but it definetely sounds way better. Glad you mentioned it. 100% agree.

my first modification to my car was either tint or rims(granted i went from factory steel to factory alloy, still looks 10x better then before), then the next mod was the exhaust(had dual Flowmaster 40 series installed on my car by a shop, i would have tried but, they needed to be welded in, looks and sounds good, I have a video of how it sounds on my channel), but that is where i left off due to the transmission failing in it, and cant have it fixed anytime soon, but it will be back and even stronger then before
For me I put in a trunk pop kit that opens the trunk from the FOB, hood struts instead of that hideous prop rod, window tint, and a resonator delete w/ h-pipe. Next mods will be intake, lowering springs, and jacking rails. Enjoyed your video!
what about an exhaust cutout? ive got one, and its great for a daily. When going to work early, getting home late, or avoiding the police, its great to have a choice at your fingertips.
How long have you had it for and do you know if it leaks?

Good vid! One thing I’d recommend is not parking your car in the street if you can help it. I parked my S10 Xtreme in the street for 4 days and on the 4th day, while I was away at work someone had smashed into the back of it and bent the frame, busted out the back window and the dashboard popped out 😢 with the insurance claim from that and a tax return I managed to get my hands on a Mk 3 Supra tho 🤘
i bought a k&n cold air intake for my 2009 honda accord and it definitelyyy improves performance
Best muffler delete I've ever done was resonator back delete on my B7 Passat 1.8t. Sounds amazing. I also did a bypass valve spacer so I could get the turbo woosh.

@@szxci9885 depends, but usually no. It’s the cats and mufflers they get upset about.

I have to fix a lot of things, and your videos are really helping me out!!!
Today i cleaned the whole engine, currently waiting for it dry so i can put the battery in and start it!!!
Thanks for the tips!
btw, window tints and some nice rain caps are also some cool starter customizations.
Im gonna be honest, I also "deleted" the muffler of my first car. But with time I learned that best doesn't mean louder, you can change the muffler with one that enhances the sound of your car without bothering people that just don't like loud noises. Also, research if you can legally do it where you live because otherwise the fine will be the same or bigger than the cost of a better muffler.
Just one thing if you're going to change out your headlights, You have to replace the housing For the lights because in some places it's actually illegal to put LED's In halogen light bulb housings Because they're not built for led's. Plus changing the housing out to housing that's made for LED's can make them look so much better, And function 2 to 3 times better because they will work properly.
Glass in halogen headlights is designed to diffuse light from halogen headlights only, so you need to change glass too, or the whole headlight
I put an intake in my 99 bonneville and it sounds freakin hot dude. would recommend 9/10
I did an egr delete on a 03 Acura TL. It’s a controversial mod but in my opinion it really shot the torque up and throttle response even idling it feel better without those exhaust gases choking out the engine

Just got my mitsubishi lancer oz rally and I'm definitely going to be doing these mods
When I got my very first car it was someone else's beater: a 2005 Nissan Almera Sport N16. I loved the design of it and where I'm from there's lots of spare mechanical parts but collision parts are a nightmare to get.
Anyways: even though it had ABS (something my country didn't require as of 2017) the tires were a nightmare, the suspension was shot, the brakes were shit but the rest of the car was just fine. Engine and transmission were okayish, the interior might have been dirty and a bit neglected but it was kinda nice overall.
So, the very first thing I did was to buy tires. People overlook tires a lot but to be honest it is the bestest mod you can do to any car you want, it doesn't matter if it's your track toy or your daily driver or both. A nice set of tires (mine were Michelin Primacy 4, nothing too crazy) and I was the first one in my entire family to use "a lot of money" in something that they considered not worth it. So, with the right specs I just got out of it many benefits, better braking time, better fuel economy, the car looked cleaner and nicer, cornering grip wasn't scary anymore, I could drive relatively high speeds in rainy conditions and all of it just with a simple set of tires. Those tires had saved me big-time many times from absurdly stupid collisions even today. Sadly my dear Almera passed away when I totaled him while I had a medical condition during traffic. I almost died that July 20th, 2019 but I managed to avoid my demise thanks to a nice set of tires worth a month and a half salary. He, my Almera, was my best buddy and made me happy during the worst times of my life. And his tires now live on in my 2006 Nissan Sentra B15 and their grip is almost as good as the first day I bought them.
I hope that one day I can get the same model just for the good times I had in it. My first touge run, my first therapy drive at night, the first car where I did my first road trip alone... And if I ever get one I'll swap the engine for a 2J Racing fully built QR25DE lol. Amen.

Thanks a ton!
Most cars have resonators and deleting the muffler can make a very good sound without being ridiculously loud. I’ve done it on a few of my cars, and some of those mufflers are heavy as heck so that’s just increased performance just like that. Intakes especially on Toyotas usually decrease performance and not for the reasons you think. It comes down to how the maf reads the intake flow and a larger diameter or smoother intake will reduce the velocity of the air and most factory intakes have baffles that direct the air properly to the maf. I wish I never installed an intake on my mr2 spyder because it definitely is slower and makes an obnoxiously loud sound while starting up. I didn’t even get into how much power you are wasting by increasing intake temperatures since most factory intakes have some sort of way to get cold air from outside the engine bay and most aftermarket intakes that aren’t cold air intakes are sucking in 200 degree engine bay air. This isn’t even mentioning turbocharged card that 1 run even more hot and 2 changing the air fuel ratios will cause the car to run lean with an intake and exhaust without a tune and will likely blow the engine. I’m all for modified cars as mine are probably more modified than most out there but please do your research and do it right. I’ve learned through my experiences some modifications you want to do with some cars and some you don’t and you never want a hot ram intake. Never.
First thing I did was optimize software to be in the 300 HP club, next I wanna do kw2 or sth for better driving feelz
There's no shoulds... there are many shouldn'ts but it's what suits you best and how extensive your knowledge and ambitions are towards car modifications.. 👌🤙
Cool vid tho 👌 😎
ive never called those filters pod filters but now i will. anyways great video even a year later. super helpful
A boost controller and boost gauge if you have a turbo car is a much better upgrade for your car that will actually makes it better. It can be a cheap air pressure regulator that restricts the vacuum line on the turbo or a nice electronic one, definitely better than an air filter.
just an fyi, installing performance modifications on a vehicle without tuning it is going to decrease horsepower more often than not, the intake for example will be adding more air to the engine but the ecu doesnt know that so it injects insufficient fuel for best combustion and will decrease power due to your air fuel mixture being more lean
Complete bs, get a k&n filter.

I think one of the better mods you can do are deletes and simplifying systems (I want to do a manual brake conversion soon), though some deletes really stretch the ability to find comfort in daily driving. I've been hunting for fuel economy and freeing up horsepower in my civic since I haven't been able to afford performance mods. while it's not completely gutted, I have removed 600lbs of weight. fuel economy was the biggest thing to have improved, but I do notice at speeds above 60mph I have better acceleration and can now get above 100mph much easier than compared to the stock weight only barely being able to hit above 100mph. either way though, getting over 40mpg on the freeway is pretty awesome.
