- Doctor Frankenstein - March 13, 1965 - The Famous Adventures of Mr. Magoo is an animated television series, produced by United Productions of America, which aired for one season (1964 --1965). The television series was based on the original cartoon of the same name, with Jim Backus reprising the voice over of the role he did on TV: while doing this show, he continued with the prime time show Gilligan's Island.
I’ll be darned! A semi-accurate adaptation of the Mary Shelley book... and it’s from Mr. Magoo of all people.
With all due respect to Mary Shelley, this version is better.
I kinda was thinking, the Robert DeNiro, movie version, of which is closely kept, to the book.
@@rogerrendzak8055 I agree. The film with DeNiro as the monster is the only one I know of that pretty much does the book.
mr. magoo's frankenstein is perfection. and his christmas carol is perfect
Man, that was clearly the darkest ending to any Mr. Magoo cartoon. That's "Frankenstein" for you.
The captain kid one was pretty dark too it ended with Magoo getting hung
@@jarofdirt8359 Brr. Haven't seen that one. Hope it at least happened offscreen.
They should have made one of Dracula or Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
Truly a forgotten classic, and a pretty damn scary for its time.
This is closer to Shelley's Frankenstein than most Hollywood movies.
Actually I found this adaptation to be as far removed from Mary Shelley's novel as the rest of the cinematic films. Entertaining nonetheless.

No I’m hop
I don't think it is. I don't remember any stories or movies where the monster was able to make more like himself. Also, there was no Elizabeth, Dr. Frankenstein's girlfriend.
Robin Hood, This and Christmas Carol are my favorite Magoo performances
This scared the crap out of me when I was a little kid. :D
Satyros Phil Brucato same
It is the scariest adaptation I have seen for cartoons.
Awww, poor baby! I'm kinda surprised, but, even if I've never seen this before, it's Mr. Magoo, he was only scary when he was driving!
This is pretty good, ESPECIALLY for Mr. Magoo.
And that´s why I still remember it dearly. I´m 53 and write, among other topics, about comics and animation. This was a wonderful version of a classic. The sound direction and the image of the creature at the beginning... truly a work of art.
One could say Dr. Frankenstien was like the scientists from Jurrasic park, he was so preoccupied about whether he could do it, he didn't stop and think if he should.
People can already create new life, why would we need to do it artificially like Frankenstein's way?
"Everyone in the world has a loved one they'd like to see come back to life. That's just human nature."
@@Gunganfan He wasn't trying to bring back a loved one, he just wanted to show he was smart enough to pull it off.
Frankenstein wasn't trying to bring back a loved one, he was trying to create life, like he said play God.
The same happened with Griffin ( the invisible man) and Dr. Moreau.
This was one of the best episodes of the series.
I remember bein in kindergarden and all the classes met in the library to watch Mr Magoo from the big reel to reel projector. Ahhh...life goes by.
One of the funniest episodes I can remember is where Magoo stumbles into a cave of hibernating bears and wakes them all up. The animation of that sequence was hilarious. I would love to see that cartoon again!
Oh Magoo. You've done it again
Wonderful version of the Mary Shelley Classic ...vaguely remember it from my childhood... I really remember The Christmas Carol Cartoon....I was 4 in the hospital with 103 degree temp and dehydration...that movie took my mind of my problems! ..... They were WONDERFUL people who made this!
This was on the Disney Channel in the late 90s when I was a kid.
Superb👏😁!!! Excellent storyline, with animation, make this terrific, short movie picture, a classic.
I loved these when I discovered them as a kid, they were so different from other cartoons I'd love to see more
A pity Rankin Bass classics didn't do one episode from this novel.
My childhood right there
Loved that show. Died too soon.
I remember this from when I was just a kid. Scared the crap outta me. LOL, pretty cool running across this blast from the past.
BACK IN 1965 I WAS IN THE THIRD GRADE. AT THAT TIME I WAS OFTEN ON PUNISHMENT FOR BEING A VERY BAD BOY ! ALL WEEK LONG I WAS WAITING FOR THAT WEEKEND THAT THIS EPISODE WAS BROADCAST HERE IN NEW YORK CITY ON NBC-TV CHANNEL 4. BUT THAT WEEKEND I MISBEHAVED AGAIN AND WAS PUNISHED AGAIN AND MISSED THIS EPISODE. FROM TIME TO TIME OVER THE YEARS I WONDERED ABOUT THIS EPISODE. TODAY I HAVE SEEN IT !!!! FANTASTIC !!!! THANK YOU From The Basement FOR POSTING THIS GREAT EPISODE FROM A GREAT FORGOTTED TV SERIES !!!! THE PUNISHMENT IS NOW OVER !!!! THANK YOU YOU/TUBE !!!!
Jim Backuss was perfect for MrMagoo, just as he was in Gilligan's Island.
Magoo must be a good actor, he has his blocking and lines down so tight, he doesn’t even need to see.
Voices:
Jim Backus
Marvin Miller
This is my all time favorite mr magoo cartoon
As good as this is, I'd have to say my favorite, is Magoo's version of, "A Christmas Carol."
This one scared me the most.
Thanks very much for this !!! Had this on VHS as a kid. Watched it till the tape wore out. So horrific ! Great animation.
I haven't even though about this cartoon in about 20 years. Holy shit. lol
I remember watching these Mr. Magoo cartoons based on classics and they were very enjoyable. Thank you for uploading these gems.
I used to have this on VHS along with two other episodes Count of Monte Cristo and Sherlock Holmes
This is a cool and funny show omg😆😭😂
This was actually really good, lol. 🤯
I remember seeing this at the theater when I was a kid it was shown before the feature presentation 🙂
Finally one that's more like the novel (that I've never read, but've heard allot about).
Maravillosa serie que me acerco a los clasicos de la literatura, yo lo veia en Lima Perú por 1978.
Muchas gracias por subirlo.
Thank you!
I remember an episode with Dick Tracy
That was another classic, I like to think of it as an unofficial pilot for the Magoo series because it had him as a world famous actor recruited by Dick Tracy to impersonate another criminal named “Squinty Eyes”. I think it was the only Tracy cartoon that was truly faithful to the comic strip as it had Pruneface, Flattop, Itchy and Mumbles in it. The other Dick Tracy cartoon series had very little in common with the comic strip
@@jennifersman7990 it had Mr. Magoo as himself, and as Squinty Eyes.
Splendid job guys!!
I first saw this as part of a movie where they lumped 3 of these together. Mr magoo man of mystery
☀️ Thank you
@1:57 is the exact sound my grandmother made just before her vital signs flatlined.
I LOVE DOCTOR FRANKENSTEIN.
OG Magoo
play as one of the many heros, mr mcgoo
this i got to seen
THANKS!! :)
All that carnage because he didn't want to study his homework.
You have to admit, the scene from 8:53 to 10:20 could fit in a more comedic classic episode of Mr. Magoo.
I like Jim Backus.
Do any of you know anything about the (flute and oboe?) music that starts around 14:57? Whether it is original music or an existing piece? It is mesmerizing and I want it.
Poor Frankenstein!
IT SEEMS THAT MR MAGOO HAS BECOME DOCTOR VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN.
the monster understands humanity
Lv mr mr. Magoo
I could swear the monster here was voiced by Ted “Lurch” Cassidy.
Actually Marvin Miller voiced the monster. He was later The Commissioner in the Inspector shorts starting in 1967.
Frankenstein pronounced "formulae" correctly. Impressive.
Superior Magoo classic. I only wish they had finished last
of the Mohicans and frontier stories like David Crocketts how I shot that bear. The NBC prime time series was supposed to have an American literary empathis.
visually limited but the voice work was exceptional!
Format Films produced the animation for this episode; some of the "darker" images they created were later"resuscitated" into their animated version of "THE LONE RANGER", a year later.
Marvin Miller was the "monster's" voice.
Barry I. Grauman THAT VOICE! The stuff of nightmares!
Que saudade dos desenhos antigos
THE END title card is cut from the DVD release. WHY?! Did you add that yourself?
Question, the monster was being hunted and was sighted on the island. Why didn't they send an army after him then? Plothole aside, this is a good retelling. And to think this came from a character that was normally comical!
I saw this cartoon when I was very young. And also I have read the book. I also saw Boris Karloff Frankenstein. Those are the only two accurate depictions of the book. Not only did it inspire one of the greatest Creations in sci-fi fiction the Daleks. Davros's who created the Daleks. And just like Dr Frankenstein the creation turned on him
Kinda reminds me of the end of Mad Monster Party
The monster sure didn't look like Boris Korloff. I guess Magoo won't be doing the bride of Frankenstein.
The ending renders that story pretty much impossible in this continuity.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN MAGOO!!!!! 🎃👻
OMG YES, these are legit from the basement!
22:34
"I had no right to play god! The destruction you brought was not your fault! It is, IT WAS MINE!!!"
Not the monster that is typically portrayed in old movies at all.
This is pretty good, ESPECIALLY for a Mr. Magoo cartoon! It's got moments of suspense, BUT, it's hardly terrifying, especially at my age!
These were the Mr. Magoo cartoons my local station ran when I was a kid. Always thought they were great. I didn't see the earlier 60's Magoo cartoons until much later in life. Can't believe how awful they were compared to these.
Right, these were very smartly done
Antony Andre' / renaissance artist and artisan Geez, lighten up! The point Foxonion was making was that the early Magoo cartoons are basically one joke stretched out to 20 minutes. These cartoons had a real story adapted from classic literature and are just as good now
Do you think you can upload Little Snow White?
does anyone know where I can find Gunga Din by Mr. Magoo?
Is there a transcript for this episode? I need it for a paper I'm writing.
Braiking from Casshan was based on the monster
Magoo in a serious role? What the hell?
Usually hes destroying things without the help of a monster.
In this series, Magoo was cast in various roles playing a different fictional character with each different episode. For example for the Snow White story, he did all seven drawfs.
+Stephen Holloway "Well, Just incase." S.H. are you Still there? It's me. It's been a Month & I've been waiting to reply you a story of my own to you. Just like MR. Magoo as Victor Frankenstein told his story to Captain Walton.
+Stephen Holloway "OK, One more time." S.H., It's me. It's been a Month & I've been waiting to reply you a story of my own to you. Just like MR. Magoo as Victor Frankenstein told his story to Captain Walton. Please, Reply me back so I can explain my life's story. This is really important.
And in another episode, he portrayed "The Count of Monte Cristo".
Sorry Dylan. I was watching other videos on CZcams. If you're still hear, what was your story?
Mr. magoo theres something to tell your grandkids about. Show how mild cartoons were in them times it smaes like I qas born a few days ago when I look back maybe its because how life is today. Thomas Simmons l
If the monster was killed how did it later become Herman Munster?
i would like to know on if you might have the episodes of the Famous Aventures of Mr Magoo of Robin Hood and should you do then could you please Post them here on youtube,
Halloween Themed Mister Magoo Cartoons from Ray Rayner and His Friends
I wonder if this is how the creators of the Mask comic book got the big green head😞?
" cells reproducing in synthetic lymph "
.... ya don't hear that in cartoons too often ! .... not sure if kids raised on "Captain Planet" would get it.
Quincy Magoo - Reanimator
Wow, a cartoon with a plot. Whoda thunk it?
It did originally air in prime time after all.
+Stephen Holloway I know which Channel The Famous Adventures of Mr. Magoo like this episode use to air in prime time. Disney Channel. Oh, S.H. If you Don't mind that for short. I have something to comment about. It's quite similar what MR. Magoo as Victor Frankenstein told his story to Captain Walton. Like these examples. 3:20, 3:41, 6:43, 10:22, 20:20 & 20:40
Disney Channel wasn't around back in 1964-65 tv season. NBC originally aired the series.
+Stephen Holloway I know that. But it use to play re-runs back in the 1990s. Again S.H. I have something to comment about. It's quite similar what MR. Magoo as Victor Frankenstein told his story to Captain Walton. Like these examples. 3:20, 3:41, 6:43, 10:22, 20:20 & 20:40 Well, maybe in a day or 2. Good night.
As in a flashback? The series did that before. No, I don't mind being called S.H.
Hope we don't make that mistake, if we mess w DNA who knows what can be created.

Sit down!
This was fun, but not too close to the book
Did they really create them?
No entender a Magoo lo que dice
I laughed really hard when Magoos helper disturbed him ! As politically incorrect as it was.......
Very very scary scary scary
You people..there is nothing politically incorrect...your mind is if anything...

President Elect Joe Biden. Thank God the evil is gone.
Let's keep politics out of this regardless of who is president.
I suppose it's true that people shouldn't try to be God, but how can we know what that is exactly? When Franklin tried to harness electricity people probably said only God could control such a force. When the Wright Bros. worked on their airplane many probably said if God meant for man to fly he would have given them wings. So how could you tell what only God can do?
