    Awesome video, I trimmed a bit over the stuff, can fully understand your take on Zorin and is indeed valid. As for the Gnome lag that you encounter is strange, for me KDE the desktop etc is way more sluggish than Gnome for some reason and a friend with AMD also had that same problem with KDE. It's like some animations aren't 165hz and in general there is this input lag, but I still rock KDE only.
    Awesome content as usual btw, love your streams and content!

    You mentioned that you have the Nvidia 4090 video card. What is the REST of your hardware that runs Linux properly - the motherboard, CPU, printer, the memory ...etc.?

    • @prodby2j
      @prodby2j Před 3 dny

      linux can run properly on almost any hardware you have on hand. The main issue is getting software support for programs that don't natively support linux. You most likely won't need a 4090 unless you plan on doing alot of heavy duty task such as 3d work or gaming in 4k while streaming. If you go on pretty much any linux based distro website, they should tell you the recommended system requirements to run their os smoothly.

      but from what I gathered from the video. He's using a Ryzen 9 5950x (cpu) with 32gb ddr5 memory aswell as a Samsung 980 pro m.2 drive.

    Goodluck everyone I hope we find our Linux distro I am also ditching Arch Linux for Mint I want a Windows based Linux rather than Arch Linux I'm not going through all that hell just for KDE to just start breaking I knew I should of stayed on Mint to begin with ever since I switched I only used it because Linus Tech Tips recommended it.

      If you wanna use KDE and Arch out of the box try EndeavorOS. No problem with Mint too I use both on two different systems

      Kde has come a long way from ltt challenge. I think you should try out mutiple distros and see what ones you like before cementing your choice.

    I run Zorin free ver & yes it’s a older kernel .
    I found Wi-Fi had a problem with Broadcom & Qualcomm cards used in thousands of laptops .
    You will need terminal but when looking for info go by date .
    Wine works but sometimes it just stops working & it’s almost a impossible fix .
    ( I just use Bottles )
    Zorin is a locked down OS .
    It will remove non-standard apps or drivers , or it can just gets ignored .
    I have seen it install programs & refuse to run it .
    It can remove your nice new working add-on , mod , driver or program .
    If your lucky with hardware & you just need a browser , e mail & video it’s a good OS .
    But software is not the OS
    Zorin upgrading free OS is a horrid experience !
    Bit banging for 2 days & it falls over ( in 2024 ) .
    System recovered with timeshift …….
    ( In 3 years i haven't totally killed it ) .
    Ps
    You can up date the kernel with “Mainline” .
    But lock in the old kernel .
    Kernel 6.1 had problems with SD cards , USB devices
    Also the standard set of congestion control's may not be included !

    You said that Zorin OS uses GNOME. Then why does it LOOK LIKE - KDE?

    • @donnysaengkio3795
      @donnysaengkio3795 Před 3 dny

      Zorin OS utilizes GNOME extensions and some created exclusively for Zorin to give it a Windows-like apperance. You can use Zorin Appearance to make it look different, the Pro version will give you more options. If you want to customize a GNOME desktop for any distro to look this, just add Dash to Panel, something like Arc Menu,etc.

    It tries to look like Windows and installing the bootloader on the wrong disk is such a Windows thing to do. Job well done, kinda.

    As someone looking to install linux dual boot on a win 10 system (to second m.2 drive) I was VERY surprised (not so much scared) when you chose "erase disk" instead of "alongside". It's probably why you had boot menu issues after install. In my experience "erase disk" means "I want this new OS to be the only OS on my machine". If selecting "alongside" I would expect to be able to either install to the same disk as Windows by shrinking the partition and creating a new one for linux, or selecting another disk and telling the installer to use that either fully or partially (what I want to do). It should then also correctly add the expected boot menu option. But anyway, as shown in this video linux installers are still misleading and/or poorly tested software. So disappointing for such an critical task.

      @Ash_18037 Před měsícem

      In my research I have come across a decade old installer bug that I believe affects all Ubuntu and descendant distros (like Mint). This bug will ignore your installer selection and overwrite the existing boot loader (not the actual OS) requiring manual editing of the boot partition to be able to start Windows again. Just painful for non linux experts.

    It's just Ubuntu with a better skin. I would not recommend.
