    Not sure where the idea comes from that it's because something competes with AoS sales... Nearly the entire Beastmen army is in AoS, as well as: Steam Tanks, flagellants, dwarf characters and units (hammerers, longbeards, ironbreakers, irondrakes, gyrocopters/bombers), chaos chosen (maybe), chariots, knights, lord on foot, marauders, marauder horsemen, manticore, spawn... and probably some more I'm missing.
    It makes a lot more sense that launching, with full production of all the factions again from day 1 (which at the very least means repackaging a ton fo stuff) would be a logistics nightmare, and this leaves updating those factions to a time where they can roll them out. Also sets the expectation that those armies aren't going to get love any time soon, while they work out the schedule for other, new races, like Kislev, Cathay, and possibly Norsca. We could very easily get a campaign book for Lustria that includes Vampires, Lizardmen, and Dark Elves for example.

      Except GW released Warhammer Community articles, directly stating: "We have no plans for supporting these factions, if you want continued support buy another faction". This could be bureaucratese, masking the desire to do more later, but it's odd to so directly tell the customer: "No, your army isn't valid, buy something else."

    are you even a real dark elf player if you haven't melted your army for a second time?

      They must pass through the flames to prove themselves worthy of being the Phoenix King.

    Optimistic and pragmatic attitude is the best way to think about TOW. 🥰 Or probably about every other game.

    Yeah dark elves is so confusing because most of the AoS playerbase knows that we'll be getting the new Shadow Elves eventually and much like the Sylvaneth and the Lumineth will have some core design ideas from their previous incarnations but will still be very different. Different enough to where high elves and wood elves are core in TOW ans their ranges were removed from the Cities of Sigmar. So its like eventually unless TOW does update the dadk elves neither game will be able to use this range which is so strange and disappointing

      Dont worry they''ll eventually release the fantasy models for old world. GW is not stupid.

    My FLGS says sales of AoS models that fit the renegade OW factions has had a significant upsurge. It certainly seems as if the fan base is largely ignoring GW’s “dictates”.

    No elation at some really broken rules like the dragon breath weapon, the pendant of Khaeleth, and the Banner of Har Ganeth?

  • @Perkustin
    @Perkustin Před 5 měsíci

    Dark Elves are the only one they need to completely reconsider, imo the rest are fine, or at least tolerable, being Legacy. For VC they could maybe even get around it with a Sylvania/Vampire Coast/Mousillon campaign book or Arcane journal etc. I just feel Elves bashing each other's brains in over and over is just so freaking cool and the Warhammer elf lore is so melodramatic and played straight it actually makes for a great contrast to the Pythonesque, Grimdark and Wacky rest of it (which i do love).

    I kind of liked the Dark Elves PDF however the army unique rule Murderous seems to be not working as intended?

    • @joelfoster2256
      @joelfoster2256 Před 5 měsíci

      Totally agree. Units like witch elves and Har Ganeth Executioners oddly don’t seem to benefit from this rule, in fact no units do because who want to strike the opponent with a single hand weapon. I sent an email to TOW FAQ asking for clarification. This rule would be perfect if it was when using non-magical weapons in combat instead of just a hand weapon.

    What do you guys think about the lack of limitations in quantity of units and how overpowered lists can be? For instance wood elves with 2 dragons for 2000 pts. Thanks ! :)

    Dark Elves could of been core, Cities of Sigmar is going to kick out the remaining dwarfs and elves anyway. That leaves only some overlap with Daughters of Khaine.

    I don’t see how there is a competition. Release books the models already exist. Seems like selling the same models for two different games is better than selling them for one.

  • @christophergough5366

    I suspect GW are just very tentatively dipping their toes into The Old World and are probably quite concerned about damaging the AOS sales. I suspect AOS has five plus years of releases planned, millions of pounds of investment, a third edition around the corner and they might be very concerned that the popularity of The Old World could leave them with a lot of stock of some new AOS starter set in their Warehouse while everyone waits for the next Old World release.

    • @gstellar96
      @gstellar96 Před 5 měsíci +2

      It's actually the reverse. It's been very clear that the TOW team doesn't want AoS to take a bite of their sales. That's why they insist you play core factions even though there's obviously going to be a lot of people who buy Seraphon, Soulblight Gravelords, and Skaven minitures when they release and those sales don't go to TOW they go to AoS. Realistically why would the AoS team care which game you're using to play their minis as long as they're the ones getting sales. I'm not saying this as a diss on TOW if games like Necromunda and Horus Heresy can get by when they're so overshadowed by 40k it's not even funny ofc AoS and TOW will be able to coexist especially seeing as how different the settings and gameplay are. But it's very nonsensical to look at the legacy faction issue as anything but TOW teams decision.

    • @christophergough5366
      @christophergough5366 Před 5 měsíci

      @@gstellar96 I’m not so sure. Imagine if GW announced plans to bring back every army with shiny new miniatures and full support for tournaments and then, three months later, they release a new box set with a whole new bunch of Stormcast in it vs another force that has no equivalent in the Old World. Might you not worry you’re shiny box of hammer wielding warriors that you’ve printed several million copies of if just going to be excess stock while everyone waits for Dark Elves?

    • @gstellar96
      @gstellar96 Před 5 měsíci +3

      @@christophergough5366 No? For a variety of reasons.
      1. Even with reusing old sculpts it's already very clear that the TOW team isn't equipped to release 16 ranges with new mini support in a timely manner at least not at a race that would outpace AoS in releasing new minis. Why would I wait for TOW to release old Skaven minis and 1-2 new minitures when I know AoS is gonna do their refresh right around the corner?
      2. They're very different games and settings. It shouldn't be shocking to hear that there's people who enjoy AoS game, setting, and factions more than Warhammer fantasy (yes that includes Stormcast). So there's just people who would indeed buy that box set because they like playing AoS more than fantasy and again that's not a diss at fantasy I'm glad both exist because they both serve a different function in the landscape of tabletop wargames.
      3. The minitures themselves. AoS and TOW have very distinct styles and we can already see that with the new minitures which I Indeed like especially Bretonnia which the knights still hold up, the peasents though? Say what you will about nostalgia, charm, or soul one of the main appeals about AoS is their high quality miniatures. And as someone who does have a dog in the legacy factions debacle since I want to field Chaos Dwarfs if you asked me which team I would prefer to get the range from I would much rather prefer it be the AoS team than TOW one. Granted I would probably fold to whoever did them first but I would be much happier with a new beautiful AoS range and I would be content with the forge world ones retrained for TOW.

    • @Emanon...
      @Emanon... Před 5 měsíci +2

      That's the exact reason why I'm turned off by AoS. Their style is overdesigned akin to Anime/Warcraft more than Fantasy Warhammer (even high fantasy...).

      AOS is already dead.

    Yes, my opinion is probably subjective and bordering on wishful thinking, but, I think the renegade factions will eventually be ported over into Old World.
