      Same here! I've been neglecting my cassette collection in favor of CD's, but I have a lot of tapes that I don't have on CD, so I need to rediscover those albums. When CD's were becoming more and more prevalent but before I had got my first CD player I bought a lot of albums on cassette. This great video by Frank is just the push I need to check out my old tapes and enjoy them again.

      I need to pull my cassettes out too however,most of mine are eighties pop.from Kajagoogoo to Terence Trent D’Arby.I think I may have some eighties hair bands too.Definitely need to sort through them.I kept all my tapes as I was a teenager in the eighties and can’t summon the strength to get rid of them.Too many memories attached to them.

    • @tomfurgas2844
      @tomfurgas2844 Před 3 lety

      @@witchinghour3654 Unless space is a problem I can't imagine why you would want to ditch those wonderful old tapes. I have tons of '80's pop too; that was the golden age of MTV and the videos were often a fine compliment to the music coming out at that time; A Flock Of Seagulls, Toto, Styx, Joe Jackson, Haircut 100, Peter Gabriel, and so many more. Including my personal favorite band of the time; Depeche Mode! A great era for pop music, and I was also immersed at that time in the cassette culture movement; home tapers (like myself) who made and traded their own music with each other. I had a blast back then, making tapes with dinky little drum machines, Casio keyboards, and the kitchen sink. So the '80's was a magical era for me.

    Wow! Cool cassettes. I haven't listened to cassette tapes in years. I used to buy albums back in the early 80's and make cassette tapes to play in the car. I also made mixed tapes. I almost always bought vinyl then made my own tapes.

    Awesome video as usual Frank! That was a pretty sweet haul right there! I am also a huge fan of 80's movies, I grew up in the 80's, definitely my fav decade. I also collect tapes and I have a fairly decent collection across the genres, but with a main focus on metal. I love the fact that a lot of bands are doing tape releases again, with some having tape only releases. What is old is new again thankfully! Take care and keep the videos coming!

    Frank, even I gave up on cassettes a LONG time ago. Actually, I remember Nancy Parsons, but not from where you're probably thinking. She was in a great episode of STAR TREK NEXT GENERATION. Season 3, Episode 9 "The Vengeance Factor" That episode totally gets an A +. It's arguably the best episode that revolves around Riker.

    Hi Frank. I absolutely love the 80's soundtracks too. I was growing up in the 80's so it's definitely my favourite decade. I have quite of few classic soundtracks from that era, some on CD, some on vinyl. Top Gun I think is my favourite one, but I have many other great soundtracks such as Beverley Hills Cop, Labyrinth, Dirty Dancing and More Dirty Dancing, ET - The Extra Terestrial (John William's music in that film is just amazing), Cocktail to name a few, and I do have some from the late 70's as well from Grease, Saturday Night Fever, FM, Jeff Wayne's War Of The Worlds, and two soundtracks of disco music from the films The Stud and Married Men. I would love to find the Back To The Future one for my collection one day soon, that would be awesome. Cool collection of cassettes you got there too, especially the rock and metal ones. You'll enjoy rockin' to those when you're tinkering around doing stuff in the garage. Thanks for the video Frank, loved it. 👍

Makes them tough to collect. Remember when some of them were like 7.99 or even 5.99 US back in the day? Now some of those start at 20 or 30 bucks used.

    Normally I'd be super jealous of that case of metal cassettes, but I actually own probably 90% of those! However I wish I had the black colored tapes of BS, mine are almost all white.

    Pretty much unrelated to this show, but....
    I'd be interested in your view on if you prefer a nice quiet new pressing where the overall sound is, say a tad subdued/poorly mastered, Vs a well played and a little crackly and poppy (not enough to ruin the music of course, just noticeable in quieter passages) original pressing with better overall sound quality - where the price is often very similar. Notwithstanding a new Vs old sleeve 😀
    Thinking Kiss Destroyer or DC Dirty Deeds and the like, not the MOFI stuff of course

    • @Channel33RPM
      @Channel33RPM  Před 3 lety

      huh... good question. Honest answer... I would keep looking for a better copy of the OG press, and in the meantime listen to the crackly version. You?

      @@Channel33RPM if money was no object, yeh I would try to find the VG+ of the original pressing but that can be (as you know) ++£50, where £19.99 gets a shrink new repress with poor audio.... I dunno, I'm a similar age to you so want the original for nostalgia too. I *think* I'm OK putting up with crackles over poorer mastering.
      I suppose I could spin the disc and simultaneously listen on tidal 😂

      Gold stamp promos were promotional copies sent to radio stations, reviewers etc. They were among the first copies pressed, and some people believe they sound better, because the stampers were still fresh.
