    Love your enthusiasm. Don't listen to any haters, you're doing great and it takes a lot of guts to put yourself out there on camera like that (more guts than the haters have).
    As others have said, always putt when you can unless you're just chipping for practice. The more you play the better you'll get at judging line and speed on the putts. Your lip outs were primarily because you were hitting them a bit too hard. Don't stop taking lessons. Little adjustments you need take a LONG time to ingrain and most golfers are awful because they don't do the work necessary to make changes. You seem to get your weight too much on your heels, and that's what causes some of your mishits as your body moves forward to try to find balance. But again, let a coach determine that.
    When you take a penalty drop from a penalty area such as when you hit it in the bushes on hole 6, you get a full two driver lengths from the red line. You could have dropped that ball MUCH farther from the bushes. Also not a penalty if you accidentally hit your ball on the putting green (or tee box). Just replace it and hit again.

    Hi Alia, golf is up and down. Don’t expect linear progress. So tips that could help you: 1) stop chipping shots that you can putt. 2) Get an official HCP so that you have a max score and won’t be posting up 10s on bad holes 3) relax out there! You’re putting too much pressure on yourself, IMO. Keep going and you will get there.

      I think she's posting correctly in her handicap records under Equitable Stroke Control. Otherwise her Index would likely be a stroke or three higher. But I get why she puts her actual score up here. When she breaks 100 again, I think she wants it to be real. I think she wants to do it counting every stroke.

    One thing that I have seen teacher after teacher after teacher say is that most people are going to get a putt from just off the green closer than a chip. Tour pros even do this. Payne Stewart won his US Open at Pinehurst doing it. Leave the wedge in the bag and putt it, is the advice, whenever you have a good like just off the green, and fairway grass or fringe to putt through. I'm working on that by practicing it at the putting green, putting balls down 1-2 yards off the green on short grass, and putting. This way I'm not guessing when I hit the shot on the course. It's working, and I've always been a fair to good chipper, so I have a pretty viable alternative to better. yet I'm doing so.
    Anyone who thins their chips even somewhat often should DEFINITELY be putting from just off the green whenever the lie is decent and there isn't a lot of rough ground to go through. Heck, pretty much everyone should at least give it a try, according to a consensus of teachers.

    I mean this in the most respectful way; how is it possible be a 26 handicapper if you have not broken 100? Being 26 HCP would imply that the best 40% of your games are around 98 on a par 72 strokes. Good luck on your quest to improvement :)

    • @seanbaines
      @seanbaines Před měsícem +2

      Nice of you to put it respectfully. As it happens, this has come up before in previous videos. She's fighting a block right now. She has broken 100 a few times in the past.
      Having said that, your math is partly, but not completely correct. You clearly understand that handicap is not based on an average of all yourv scores. Many people think that. You understand it's based on the top 8 of your last 20 scores. So good for you there. you're ahead of the game.
      There's more, however. Your are assuming a course rating of 72 and a slope of 113. And yes, if the average of her best 8 out of her last 20 scores is 98, that implies an average unadjusted differential of 26. But if the slope is a lot steeper, you'd need an average of somewhere around 99 or 100 to get an adjusted average differential, and thus a handicap index, of 26. And at least one of her recent rounds was played on a course rating of 74.
      Also, we have not yet factored in equitable stroke control. The round before this, she shot an even 100 despite shooting a 12 on a par 4. With net double bogey for a 24 handicap on what I believe was the top ranked handicap hole on the course, she'd have been credited with an 8 on that hole, bringing her adjusted score down to 96, and giving her a differential before slope adjustment of 24, assuming a course rating of 72. After slope, it'd likely be 23 something or 22 something. Likely the latter on this course. And like most higher handicappers, she usually has at least 1 or 2 blowup holes per round. If they are worse than net double bogey, (quadruple bogey on the more difficult holes for her, triple bogey on the easier ones), they'll be adjusted. She probably has 1-2 of those per round.
      So it isn't as simple as subtracting 72 from your score, or even the average of your best 40%. So that makes it possible to have a handicap index of 26 and still not be shooting 100. Unusual, but definitely possible.

    Triple on that first hole is not actually all that bad. That's a tough hole. It's just short of 400 yards. A little further along there's a par 5 that's only 5 yards longer. So I feel this hole is kind of a par 5 in disguise. And most people have first hole jitters. A 6 is going to be a pretty good score for you on this hole going forward, so a 7 is really only giving up one extra stroke.

    Well. You ask for thoughts so...... Yes, your swing looked off. I am no swing coach, so I will offer no advice, other than to spend time with your pro, and spend time on the range. The biggest problem appeared to be with the wedges. Again, I have no ability to help correct that. A good teacher will be able to help you.
    Putting. This is something I do know. Putting has always been my strength. I always test out at a lower handicap level than I play to. So here goes.
    If it was me, I'd try and take my time and concentrate more on the short ones, to try and reduce the 3 and 4 foot misses. I'd also work on it more in practice. I practice them in a certain way. I got this from a Tommy Armour book many decades ago. He said he got it from Walter Travis, one of the best putters of Armour's time. It is as follows:
    Set up 4 balls in a circle around a hole, uphill, downhill, sidehill, sidehill. Set them up at 2 feet away from the hole to start. (A putter is usually a bit short of 3 feet. A grip is a little less than 1 foot. So if you lay your putter down with the head at the hole and the shaft pointed straight away, the bottom of the grip is about 2 feet.) Putt all 4 of those balls in. If you miss one, do it again until you sink all 4.
    Now move out to 3 feet. Again, use your putter, placing each ball just outside the butt end of the grip. Again, putt them all in, and if you miss one, do the circle again until you get all 4. This will be a bit tougher, but still doable. It might take a couple of tries. if it takes more, you need to get better at this distance, so the drill makes you do more.😉
    Next, go to 4 feet, which will be about 1 grip length past the end of your putter. Eyeball it. Now, by this point, most people are going to be missing some. The objective is to get good enough to sink 3 out of 4 from 4 feet. For a club golfer, that's pretty good. Even a low handicapper doesn't really do much better, believe it or not. But the first time around, try to sink them all. If you don't, try again. How often you keep going depends on how much you want to work on 4 footers today. Usually, I'll move on if I can get 3 of 4 down on the 3rd circuit. I do want to get to the rest of my putting routine. :) But sometimes I'll grind until I get them all, even if that takes several circuits. Up to you.
    From there, move on to 5 feet, then 6 feet. By this point, try for 3 out of 4, but move on after 3-4 circuits if you manage 2 of 4. Most people's 50-50 point is between 4 and 5 feet, believe it or not, but the idea is to try to practice to a somewhat higher standard than that, in order to push yourself.
    You will probably find all this difficult at first. But it'll really help. Believe me. I've done it most of my golfing life, and as I say, I putt to a better standard than the rest of my game. I'm convinced this drill is why.
    You also need to tighten up on the lag putting. I should add, however, that part of the reason you are 3 putting is you are leaving yourself with a lot of quite long 3 putts. Most golfers 3 putt increasingly frequently once they get outside about 25-30 feet. So getting better with those 30-70 yard wedges will help. Don't leave as many 50 footers, and accept you have 3 shots left when you do.
    But also, practice your lag putting from 8, 10 and 12 paces. Try to get the ball within a putter length more often than not, and rarely more than 2 putter lengths away. That will cut way down on your 3 putts, and every now and again you'll sink one of those! When you practice, do so with 3 or 4 balls at first to try and use feedback from the first ball to try and refine your distance feel. Eventually cut back to 1-2 balls at each station, or scatter 3-6 balls around at different places, but within about 1 pace of the same distance from the hole. In all cases, go up and putt the balls in after you've lagged them. Get more practice on short ones!
    Hope all this helps. I only offer this because you asked for feedback. The last thing any of us need is well meaning busybodies butting in with unwanted advice.

      This has been dealt with before in another video. One, she has broken 100 in the past a few times. She just hasn't in awhile. She's trying to fight through a block. Her handicap has gone up a couple of strokes in the process.
      Two. Having said that, it is possible to be a 26 handicap and not break 100 if the courses you play have a high enough course rating and slope. They'd have to be pretty difficult, and she'd have to have some Net Double Bogey Equitable Stroke Control adjustments made, but it's possible. I would argue, in fact, that the courses she plays regularly ARE more difficult than normal, and that she would have broken 100 in at least one of the videos I've seen had she been playing an easier course.

    • @dragunslayer8356
      @dragunslayer8356 Před měsícem

      The way the handicap system works is that the worst you can do on paper is a triple bogey, so if a player scores quadruple or more on a hole it's brought back to a triple bogey so this way a player can have a handicap that puts them lower than 100. What she's attempting to do is break 100 " off the stick " meaning she wants to break 100 the true way by counting all shots played.

    • @seanbaines
      @seanbaines Před měsícem

      @@dragunslayer8356 Slight tweak to the new World Handicap System. My understanding is that the system is "net double bogey". So if you have a 25 handicap, and you are playing on the top handicap hole, you get two shots on it. So "Net Double Bogey" is two strokes above that two strokes, so a quadruple bogey. But I'll have to go check the handicap rules. I think I have a PDF somewhere.
      But that's picking nits. I totally agree with the main thrust of your arguments, which are a) for various reasons, you can have a 26 handicap without breaking 100, and b) she wants to break 100 counting every stroke, not as an adjusted gross.

    • @seanbaines
      @seanbaines Před měsícem

      Yup. Just checked. So here's the new official way it works now worldwide, for those interested:
      World Handicapping System (R and A and USGA sponsored) Rules of Handicapping Edition Effective January 2024. Rule 3, Adjustment of Hole Scores. page 36, Rule 3.1, Adjustment of Hole Scores after a handicap index has been established.
      "For a player with an established Handicap Index, the maximum score for each
      hole played is limited to a net double bogey, calculated as follows:
      Par of the hole + 2 strokes + Any handicap stroke(s) that the player receives on that hole*
      (*or minus any handicap stroke(s) that a plus handicap player gives back on that hole.)"
      I think the max triple bogey may have been the old way to do it in one of the older handicapping systems, whether USGA or R&A. But I don't know. I don't remember enough about it. I've been out of golf for many years and am just coming back.

      @@aliawghgolf It looks to me as though your 5 wood is usually just as long if not longer, but your shot grouping is tighter. Your misses don't go as far offline. Also, your left to right shot with it is more of a fade than a slice. That might help on all those right tilting fairways that keep giving you a hard right bounce.
      I used to do this, until my driver straightened out. I still do sometimes. I actually broke 90 multiple times using a 7 wood off the tee pretty much every time.
