    Playing the front 9 at Golf Dorval today, we will be taking a look at what it takes to break 100. I'm breaking 100 every other round, so hopefully this video is helpful.

      As a single digit handicap golfer who just got back into golf after not playing for 14 years I was making alot of the mistakes you were the first three rounds of golf. I eventually started practicing, working out in the gym and at home. Getting my swing fixed, invested in my golf bag and playing more rounds of golf. Some people are naturally talented at golf, some have to work harder. It helps if you have a little bit of both. Good luck and work on your game. You’ll get there and enjoy golf it’s a great sport.

    Golf Sidekick said that if you can't hit a shot 150y reliably, then you need to get some lessons from a pro. That's what I did and it's what helped me the most. I'm breaking 100 regularly now. The second thing that helped is that if a club isn't working (like my 3 wood), leave it in the bag. Nice video!

    Love the video and the brutal honesty that comes with high handicap golf, which is the majority of weekend golfers.
    Hey, I was around your skill level 2-3 years ago. Now im averaging low 90s, with my best round of 85 last week. I haven't had a lesson since i took a one semester golf class at community college 10 years ago, so im just trying to get my game there on my own.
    One thing I noticed that could help you a ton is club selection. You hit driver on a lot of the tees, and 3 wood off the deck. One of the first times I let the ego battle go of hitting my long clubs, I took my driver and 3 wood out of the bag and just played my irons. Turns out when you mishit irons, they arent WAY out of play, just a little. And they are easier to get the ball in the air and forward. The next piece of advice I'd give you, is spend time on your 120 yard shots and in. Go to the range and hit a full bucket of just SW, PW, 9 iron. Take half shots, full shots, chip shots. Just focus on striking the ball in the center of the face and swinging easy. That tip alone dropped probably 10 strokes off my game in a season.

    • @fromduffertodriver
      @fromduffertodriver  Před 9 měsíci +1

      This is very very good advice! I just played a round yesterday and was making an effort to put thought in my club selection. Instead of trying to go 3 wood into PW, just hit two solid 7irons. Much easier to control, and when you spend as much time in the rough as I do, it really makes a difference.
      I'll make a video where I take out those clubs from my bag and we can see how I fare! Thanks!

    Hello from Ireland. I feel your pain. I can count on one hand the number of times I've broken 100. My biggest hurdle is the mental game. Keeping calm and refocusing after the many inevitable bad shots. Also, i find if i overthink it messes with my head. I play much better when im relaxed with an almost don't care attitude. Consistent iron play is also a huge issue for me. Generally good with my driver and putter... everything else in-between is a bit of a lottery TBH. Great video BTW.

    A few days ago I went in to try and break 100 for the first time. I got 101. I had two par 3s that’s I got an 8 on bc of bunkers. I was so annoyed. I was on track to doing the best I’ve ever done. Coulda broke 90 if I had done things a bit differently. Especially 4 putting when it was totally avoidable by taking an extra 30 seconds to look at my shot before I take them.
    I hope I can get close again bc I never do good twice in a row.

    • @fromduffertodriver
      @fromduffertodriver  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Keep at it my friend! If you've gotten close once before you can do it again. It's frustrating to get a score and know exactly where you lost strokes, and you know you could have done better. The few times I got 94, there were a few holes that I completely goofed and 4 putted, so I know the feeling.
      Maybe won't be the next time you play, but you're breaking 100 this summer. You got this.

The "towel-trick helped me cure this as I was forced to keep my arms to my chest by squeezing tight. Try it, I am sure you will cure that slice as I did. On hole 3 you kept the arms nicely tucked with the driver.

    Good videos thanks to sharing your golf course with us :)
    I you don't mind, I can give you a little advice with your irons shot. I've noticed when your started your backswing, you engage your hands first and you begun to arm/roll them a bit, it's not good at all for regularity and to have a good trajectory without compensate, but it's pretty easy to fix that with a bit of practice ^^
    I'm pretty sure your motor preferences in your golf swing is to have a earthy posture because your weight in your posture is on the back of your foots, you are very anchored in the ground. And your low mobile point, it means your motor for turning is your hips, the low back for be precise, it's your starting point in the backswing and downswing. Your axis is pretty vertical too (I can be wrong, you have to test for be sure if all i say for you it's pretty natural and balanced, but what I see in video it's this)
    So for this type of natural specifities of your body (the same of my father so i know well), you have to be in line during the begining of your backswing, start to rotate with your hips (all the upper body gonna move in the same time) and be really connected with your arms (elbow pretty close each other) without move at all your hands before passing your right thigh, and then you begin to arm pretty quick your hands and continue to rotate your body all the way up while keeping your arms very connected.
    If not, your downswing look pretty good, your start to engage your hips first at the descent. But i have noticed at 4:43 in the video that your balance is not good and you fall a bit frontward because your right foot slip in back in the grass. You have to focus to stay your right foot at his place. Maybe a better backswing will help to be more balanced during all the movements because I guess your compensate a lot to have the face square at the impact, and will fix this foot problem.
    Practice that, i thinck it will be really helpfull for you and continue to make videos like this, it was fun ;)

    Love your video. I started out 4 years ago shooting 125. Two keys to better golf if you don't mind me saying is. 1. Alignment and 2. swing pace. You don't have to try and hit the ball 100 mph to be consistent. Nice and slow. If you can find someone to give you some good tips take advantage of that. Guys golf is a really tough game. Trust me, not everyone is shooting scratch. It takes dedication to practicing and hitting balls almost everyday, and that's AFTER you come up with a decent, repeatable swing. If you can hit your drives 250 that's really all the length you need. Of course longer is better, but consistency is the name of the game. I think the best way to score lower sooner is to start with the short game and move out. Start with putting, then chipping, and slowly work your way out. Hit ball first then ground. Good luck.

    I have the opposite problem...my driving is relatively reliable--I found out I have ADHD, this past year, so staying focused is actually my biggest issue--but my short game/putting is where things usually end up unraveling for me. It's fairly common, unfortunately, for me to be in a position to start off putting for birdie and walk away with a double bogey. And my wedges...if I'm 60+ yards out, I'm fine. If I'm only a couple of yards off the green, I'm usually okay. Five to fifty-five yards? It's a crapshoot at that point.
    I've broken 100, this summer...ironically, I was golfing with three guys who had never played the course before, so I was constantly thinking about it so I could advise them on where the green was, where to stay out of trouble. I'm generally thrilled to score anything less than double-bogey, and I'm pretty consistently under 110. Just trying to ease into a new point range...

    • @fromduffertodriver
      @fromduffertodriver  Před 10 měsíci

      It's definitely a slow grind to improve your scores. I wonder if playing with the 3 course newbies helped keep you more focused on the current hole since you were spending time thinking to advise them. My best scores have come when I was really taking my time to think about my next shot, and what my intent was, instead of grabbing the longest club and hitting in the direction of the hole.
      Here's hoping you start breaking 100 consistently this summer, keep at it! Keep practicing that short game!

    25 handicap so i can relate to your struggles keep it in play. No penalties 100% take the conservative approach, always add extra club. firm 90% shot more reliable that a 100/110% swinging out of your boots. Make your practice 3 holes rather than range practice. Hit 2 options off the tee a long and a safe ie favourite hybrid and driver. You will find some holes safe hybrid works and you score easy bogey helps give you a 2nd option on nemisis holes etc.

    My big hurdle was hazards, I overthought about them and as soon as I didn’t my scores plummeted. If you don’t plan to land the ball in the water, just don’t even think about the water.

      I've found for me that I have better contact when I don't rest my irons flat on the ground - If you haven't taken any lessons yet, I took some after this video and it easily added 15-20yrds per club. • @FredCDobbs-er4qd
    @FredCDobbs-er4qd Před 10 měsíci +1

    At your level, I would suggest taking more club and then less swing. Hitting a straight on target 5 iron is a whole lot better than a 5h 170 and into the rough. You spent the whole day in the rough. You try to get under the ball. Hit down, not up. 90 is easily within your capabilities. They call it 'course management' and 'swinging inside of yourself'. Try it. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose.

    What Breaking 100 Looks Like is carrying a scorecard pencil with an eraser + mulligan on 1st tee, playing every OB shot as a lateral hazard, rechipping with a different wedge to get the shot right and blowing off 2-3 footers you know we might miss if we tried. Actually breaking 100 looks like keeping tee shots between the trees, developing wizardry with recovery shots when that doesn’t happen, not hitting driver every single hole, and finally feeling like you have an idea around and on the green. Approach shots will still be all over the place, but will at least have some distance to them.
    Also a 14 club bag is overkill when learning. 10 to 12 is more than fine. Ok to own a full set and even some extra clubs for fun, but not necessary to bag all of them.

      We've all been there! I played with some guys who were shooting Par every hole, and I was going from Bogey to Quadruple Bogey every other hole. This game is very up and down: one minute you're playing the best golf of your life, the next minute you forget how to hold your club properly.

      That’s what the handicap system is all about. It’s meant to be the great leveller. 🤗🤗

    Way to lay it out there for all to see, warts and all. Maybe some unsolicited thoughts? Work back from the hole to YOUR best, meaning most accurate full swing, club. Say wedge or ??? Leave yourself that distance for the approach. Statistically I think the 3 wood is just as accurate as the driver, you should see which you hit more consistently, give the other a break. You may want to try a round teeing up with a 5 iron. Leave the driver and woods at home. Interesting what you can learn. That slice looks like you're over the top. Relax man, a 170 yard anything in play is better than an out of bounds, in the rough or worse, bunker, or water shot. You made some nice putts. Strive to keep a miss just enough to leave yourself a gimmy. Good job sir.

      I try a few rounds leaving the driver at home, and another using only my irons. Results were pretty interesting! I'll post videos of them soon. Appreciate the advice.

      @@fromduffertodriver Thanks for responding. Not taking any credit. I played a guy 25 years ago who teed up with the 5, he shot an 82. Hmm moment. Played a round with a retired widower 20 years ago. She didn't hit anything over 170 yards, But one ball for the round. Shot a 72. Eating some humble pie that day; but what an opportunity to think out of the box. Good luck sir, play the percentages.

    Set the club behind the ball, then set your feet.
    You’re doing the opposite, which is likely the cause of your slice. 🤗🤗

      This might help me a lot! I'll try this my next round, thank you!

    I’ve never seen a driver practice swing whilst standing over the ball. Also , you did something weird in dropping a ball into the rough from your hand on the next hole. You ‘decide’ to change your golf ball to one you don’t mind losing in the water… hey? What? I had zero idea that golf was played like this. Darn it dude.

      If you look at the rules, I'm sure you cannot decide to change balls mid-hole, but I'm not 100% sure. When you're playing high handicap like me, and it isn't a tournament or anything, I will sometimes switch out my ball if I'm shooting over water. It helps me commit more to my shot. Loosing balls is expensive!
      I'm working on my pre-shot routine to actually eliminate practice swings completely. Hoping it makes a difference!

      Usually there are flocks of them! The back 9 has a bunch of turkeys too, you'll see them in some upcoming videos!
