My father was a machinist his whole life. I wish he were still around to see your videos. I know he would really appreciate your level of craftsmanship! Great work from New Jersey!

I’ve never seen such an intelligent man that can fit an engine perfectly in an rc car by making his own parts (you are a cool dude bro )
@Why So Serious? Except these videos aren't for business purposes, it's purely his hobby.

I mean...your right in some way
Cool dude bro yeah 🤙
Perfect quick/simple DIY at home project for beginners, using common everyday tools most kids can find laying around in their basement.
Yeah like who doesnt got a metal lathe hanging around in the basement? Lol
It must be a great feeling to have the knowledge, tools and experience to be able to do these things.

I love how you show the manufacturing part of your projects but could you also direct us to some form of design procedures you take such as engineering calculations, your research etc. ?
Great idea.
Was going to ask the same - good question indeed!
I second this! CAD files would really be awesome too, if it is not too much to ask.

Exactly my thoughts. This is insane
Fantastic. This video appeals to my love of RC, and my engineering background too. You have a nice array of tooling at your disposal. I can see me watching many more of your videos! Beautiful work.
You are truly great Johny. I admire your work and the way you do things. Top notch as always. You've been an inspiration for me to start building projects too! 💪

I can’t even finish a plastic model kit and this dude literally just built a car
It's not easy but the correct tools help
Same here
This was over a period of the time as you can tell 90% is sped up
practice. Practice. More practice. Make (well, *assemble*) a dozen plastic models. Then make a dozen electric RC kits (doesn't have to be a car). Then make a dozen nitro engine kits... then make your own frame for one. Try to replicate it. Practice replicating other components. Look on youtube how they approach machining specific parts. Try to replicate one part of the engine, then more parts. Sell whatever you finish on ebay to get back at least some of the money. Say, buy a kit for 100, sell it for 75. Usually RC kits are *more* expensive than the assembled ones... so you will lose some money by doing this since you will have to sell it significantly less... I do not remember exact numbers, but the kit i got for 400 was 350 ready assembled... so for a rough estimate, you would have to sell it for less than 70% of what you spent... still, you will get some money back.
I'm the same bro as u bro.
This was extremely satisfying to watch
It's amazing see how far you've come on your builds. There was a lot of drivetrain loss on this one and your newer ones are leaps and bounds ahead. As always - amazed by your attention to detail and engineering ability.

You should make a turbo or supercharger for the engine.
He already tried making a supercharger in previous videos. It was completely impractical. The required rotational speed of the supercharger was so high that it kept self-destructing.

Wow gave me a better understanding of how the gears work when u shift them. It’s actually very simple mechanism. U should be able to build your own car from scratch soo cool
17:31 I am worried about the flexion angle of the joint shaft. The current flexion angele reduces the efficiency of the powertrain a quite a little bit.
I am sure with this man's skill set, he will work it out.
This entire freaking kludge reduces the efficiency of the powertrain by more than a "little bit". A belt-driven drivetrain with the belts being forced through multiple tight bends, a longitudinally-mounted engine in a chassis obviously designed for a transverse-mounted engine, a right-angle transfer case to compensate for the engine's mounting position, a 3-speed gearbox connected to an engine big enough to run just fine with a single gear ratio, etc etc etc. The universal-joint shaft is one small problem surrounded by many large problems.
@@deusexaethera Please consider he self taught everything. As far as i know he is not a engineer or a trained mechanic.
@@TheKerberos84: This kludge is not the result of informal learning, it is the result of not planning ahead. He seems to deal with each problem as he encounters it instead of thinking ahead to determine what additional problems his solution might cause.
Me: “I wonder how he’s gonna make that”
Johnny: “This giant block of billet aluminum should do the trick”
Just a giant block of aluminum. Billet just means it's made of one piece and not parts.
High level precision...enjoyed watching!

Nothing on YT land comes even close to the videos you produce. Im not the least bit impressed with everyone else, your offerings are truly phenomenal. I don’t praise ANYONE,... EVER! But your skills in programming the mini lath, the informative captions (that are long enough to read and not too long to annoy), the ideas and intricacy with witch you perform your tasks are truly impressive. Your not afraid to make a mistake and show it, then correct it! It’s very refreshing to behold. My only thoughts as I consume your videos is... Gee!, I wish I was even a tenth as skilled as you obviously are. I have a savage with a 5hp engine in it and its really violent when i run that engine stuff breaks but i wonder how one of these v4 or v8 would do because original engine only had like 3.2 hp and it moved pretty good i would imagine you got a lot of torque and lower rpm hp like my 5hp truckzilla engine i have to gear it higher
I've always wondered how small an engine could be

so satisfied with your videos Sir . keep up the good work . really cool for having these kind of RC .
i wish i had the tools to do this stuff too... its an extremely aggravating feeling to never be able to realize your small goals and dreams and ideas and plans because you dont have access to machinery like these.. even just a lathe id be able to do so much with. i look forward to the day metal 3d printers are as good as milling machines.. and the day that milling machines and lathes and everything is way cheaper than it is now.
