  • I try out the Brinly Hardy lawn sweeper with dethatcher to see how it performs on my yard. I try it on stones, cedar leaves, nut tree branches, leaves, and general lawn thatch.
    This is model number STS-42BHDK.

How well does it dethatch? Looks like a nice time saving setup but it cost like $600 on amazon and I don't want to spend that much on something that doesn't dethatch that good.

It does a good job dethatching I thought, especially if you go over thick spots more than once.

Hello thank you for the video. I have a question does this thing do the same job as a bagger?

Well it does similar things as a bagger. But you don’t use a bagger to dethatch your lawn or pick up branches and other lawn debris. Leaves could be done with a bagger

Are you happy with the dethatcher sweeper combo?

So far, yes. As just a sweeper (disengaging the dethatcher) it works great. With dethatcher, I like it but did have the engagement lever issue. It was mostly the way I had it set, but I still found that eventually it will come over center and tip the dethatcher. I feel something more positive engaging from Brinly would be helpful. It’s not like they give us the option to buy it fully assembled and adjusted. They are relying on the consumer to do that.

If you watch their assembly instruction video here on CZcams, they say to tighten the pivot bolts for the thatch rake until you can barely pivot it by hand (this is before the handle is installed, so they mean by gripping the rake itself). In your video, the rake seems be loose. You should try to tighten the pivot bolts more.

That would probably help solve the issue, thanks!
