- 🔰The Battle of El Guettar was a battle that took place during the Tunisia Campaign of World War II, fought between elements of the Army Group Africa under General Hans-Jürgen von Arnim, along with Italian First Army under General Giovanni Messe, and U.S. II Corps under Lieutenant General George Patton in south-central Tunisia. It was the first battle in which U.S. forces were able to defeat the experienced German tank units, but the followup to the battle was inconclusive.

Awesome! My great uncle was a vet of this battle with the 1st ID (he became a POW as a result).
I will say though, the hellcat TD was not present during this battle.
Those aren’t M18s, but rather M10s (see the bogeys) from 899th TD Bn

The German tanks should've kept going instead of standing still so that they could reach the tanks and prevent themselves from being as easy of targets. And they shouldn't have sent in their half-tracks in first when there was so much artillery. It also didn't seem like the German artillery was doing much in this battle.
But this was a fun battle, even if it was maaaaassively one-sided. lol XD
where are the italians? the Centauro division and the 5th Bersaglieri regiment lost almost all of its men in Tunisia :')
I gather that this is a depiction of the famous attack by German 10th Tank division on the positions of US 1st Infantry Division. Thus no Italians. The most iconic action is M3 GMC vs German tanks, and that is present. Everything else? Well, let’s just say, this is work of art, and artists are free to take certain liberties;

@@Jin-uu5he did you manage to find detailed documentation on axis side? I’ve been trying to put together a picture of what exactly happened for a while now, but I have to go largely by the archives of 1st US ID (and attached 601st TD Bn). 10th TD does not even have the order for the attack, so it’s unclear what exact units from the division were committed, what was their goals (and their interactions with Italian units in the area). So below divisional level it’s a mystery. Italians were certainly in the area based on US documents: 1st division’s troops were fighting them prior to the attack, and at the end of the month, as 1st and 9th division advanced, the prisoners log mentions captured Italians and their units.
TLDR: if you have some info for axis side that you can share, I would be thrilled! But no worries if not.

I don’t know if it happened in real life, but sending half-tracks first with infantry was idiotic.
In real life German lost tons of armor :)
