You know, I think it's great that you guys actually admitted that you guys weren't familiar with the series and gave it an honest try, unlike IGN who tried to come in as experts and completely botched the review
It's like saying that they're
[Demon Lord]
But they're actually
[Erusean Fighter]
You can't collectively blame all of of ign, but some of their reviewers are just bad. Some of them are good too but, yeah I know what you mean. Totally bothched it.
IGN are awful
Its a humble review from a gamer with no context. If only he knew how insane some of the missions in the old games where like so he has nothing to compare it to. So he missed some of the negatives. Like some of the features missing because of a troubled development.

Ace combat zero: the belkan war
my personal favorite in the whole series and if you haven't played it go play it.
Unstable Trigger fuck YES
Ace Combat 5 is my favorite over all but I love Zero.
Zero for me had the best charcaters and hcaracter development
Plus Cipher and Pixy?
Yeah, id take those two any day of the week over any other charcater in the whole AC universe
Also, the best 2 things about Zero (best things after Cipher and Pixy)
Are the Ace Squadrons you fight almost every mission and the music
Oh man the music in Zero was a blast
Especially the music
Where you have to fight that last enemy in the last mission (no spoilers for newcomers)
That music was so fucking beautiful I actually had to download it
@BMO Ace Combat Zero is for PS2 only, unfortunatly there is no remaster of it for now (fingers crossed to have one soon)
But you can play it using a PS2 emulator, its fairly easy to play it that way, i have it myself, just download PCSX2 emulator , foolow the tutorial and then download the ACZ game file (its a rar or iso file)
And for the emulator setting there was video that tells you exactly how to adjust all the settings to have it working smoothly,
Sorry about that rambling but jist want to make sure that your first experience with Zero is as amazing as possible like it was for us, oh and yeah you should play zero first, maybe 5 and 4 after that if you want, personal recommendation is 5, after that you can play AC7 like you want
Ace Combat 5 blew me away. It was an incredible story. The feels man...
ac5 for ps4 is part of ac7 deluxe pack
Ace combat 4 was my fave, my CHILDHOOD!!! Haha all of them are great in their own right
Absolutely. Have it on PS2 and still play it occationally.
I agree! I loves Ace Combat 5.
I’m late to this but yeah I agree. AC5 was my favorite. It’d be cool if they brought back commanding your own squadron again.
Top gun the game? Shut up and take my money
I had Top Gun the game for original Nintendo. Played it all the time. Still got it. I'd love a new one though
Ironically its better than topgun the game
More like Top Gun: the Anime
Im about to buy this game right now👀😂😂
How about Topgun [2010] and Topgun: Hardlock.
Too late... 12 years of waiting man, already bought it!
I regret buying it. It's not ace combat, it's ground attack combat while evading drones/SAMs. And the story is garbage, hardly any customization, wingmen are superficial as all hell. The core gameplay is great, the weather effects are awesome, and then it's completely ruined by a forced timer, drones and ground attack. No aces, no lore/affects of your squadron because you're hardly in the same one for more than 3 missions at a time and the player character is just a silent pushover. God dammit I was excited for this one, but it doesn't hold a candle to AC5 and it definitely isn't worth $50+ imo
@@kzero1499 is it available on ps 4

I wish there was some sort of "Dog Fight" mode, were you could select AI aircraft to fight, changing skill level, fighter models, and allies.
That would be cool, maybe next one
@@bombomos maybe in 12 years.. Lol
there was, Ace Combat Assault Horizon introduced the feature but the people didn’t like it
@@sebastianrivera3424 he didn't mean a DFM Assault Horizon mode, but more like “dual” mode, where you can choose your opponent (ex: Mihaly) and freely fight him without any allies or enemy support. In the entire map, only you and Mihaly, nobody else.
I don’t know about selecting aircraft, but in Ace combat 5, there is a decent arcade mode which steadily increases in difficulty as you fly through as a single fighter through different terrain and AI enemies, it also has no campaign on the arcade mode so no more annoying chat that repeates itself ever time you die. In my opinion as a fan it’s the closest you’ll get to what you’re talking about. Hella old game tho

Short Story from a true game lover: When I was 5 my house burned to the ground. We had NOTHING left. My Grandfather got me a PS1 (was new at the time & simply called the Sony Playstation, I'm talking an OG 1996, square body, eggshell white build) And I got donated a copy of the Original Air Combat as well as a few other classics such as Spiro & Crash Bandicoot. As I am sure you all can understand, having a distraction to shield my mind from the reality of having nothing & living in a hotel, then a camper trailer, then a repossessed single wide my parents had to remodel themselves, these games damn near saved my life. I LOVE that AC7 It is literally a modern rebirth of the classic. Jake & Falcon you NEEEEEED to play the PS1 Air Combat.

Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War was my favorite of the series. The story was great and the music amazing. Definitely a classic from the ps2 era. It came with the preorder for AC7, and I marathoned it before even starting AC7.

Yeah unsung war was amazing. I sunk many hours in as a kid on the ps2.
"To an outsider it might just look like another flight military game " - that actually made me pause a bit - because honestly how many flight games have we had in recent years? A lot of new gamers might not have seen a game like this at all, and a lot of older gamers may only really remember these kinds of games as a distant memory. I wish we actually had enough of these games to more honestly think of this as just another of its kind. Especially with the kind of graphical technology we have, these games could look gorgeous, and Ace Combat 7 certainly does. I would love to see more of these games, even if a few of them don't work out. I'd love to see more developers at least try.
I hear you it doesn't need to be like cod and have a game every year but they need to come out atleast every 2 to 3 years
Remember Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.Ks 1 & 2?? Those games were great from what I rememberer

@@suicidism As a kid growing up in the 90's I loved military flight sim games, especially ones that blend arcade and simulation elements. I used to play e-Falcon, Thunderhawk, and Jane's AH-64D Longbow. I bought Ace Combat 7 kind of reluctantly, because previous entries in this series have seemed too arcade-y, but I've come around to AC7, which has been ridiculously fun despite the...liberties. Jake, not sure if you got the preorder bonus on top of this copy, but if you get the chance play AC5. It's one of the best entry-level games that brought a lot of new fans, including myself, into the fleet. Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War is truly a story I can see becoming a really good wartime fictional movie if it's handled correctly.
thanks for the tip!
Great story that last mission is a bitch though lol
Of all the Ace Combat games Unsung War get my vote for a UHD remake.
And AC7 is a soft "sequel" happening a decade or so after the events of AC5. Can't recommend AC5 enough
That game was my childhood. So fucking good
As a fan who's played other Ace Combat games, it's a nice return to form after Assault Horizon. One thing I wish they kept with the campaign mode is having some type of control with your squadron, like picking their planes or being able to command them on missions. The multiplayer is really fun and you earn nicknames for doing things, even from the campaign that you use in multiplayer.

@@wickxd9929 Ace Combat is the way to go. You can play 5 I think on PlayStation
Thank you for giving an honest review to a series you know little about. Im a HARDCORE fan of this series (Ace combat 4 is the game that made me a gamer) and after putting nostalgia aside this title TRULY holds up to the glory of the older ones. It has a 20 mission campaign, great soundtrack, plenty of callbacks to previous titles, and enough improvements to truly be a next-gen entry for the series.
As a player of AC Infinity though, I was honestly hoping for a little bit more in the multiplayer. Everything they had in infinity was so much fun, and would be fairly easy to implement into their current system. I have high hopes for the future though, Im sure they want to release content updates and more as time goes on.

I appreciate the honest review. Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies arguably has one of the best stories. It took me until I was an adult to actually comprehend who the protagonist was in relation to who I was as the pilot.
I remember playing that as a kid and being obsessed
Arguably the best story of all the Ace Combat games. Don’t get me wrong, 5 and Zero were good, but storytelling of 4 was just flawless compared to the rest. Remains one of my favorite video game stories because of how real and captivating it felt.

@@SunnyXtreme83
AC5 maybe, but AC7 blows AC6 out of the water
ark13700 by AC6 i meant AC Zero (Belkan War) on PS2
Glad you understand why, even though it's relatively small, the Ace Combat community is extremely loyal. If you're going to play the other games, I'd recommend the "Holy Trinity" with 4, 5, and Zero on the PS2. 4 goes through the events of the last war with Eurusia, 5 is about the last war involving Osea, and Zero is a prequel to 5 and involves the Belkans. You'll notice that the planes feel more agile and lighter, so dogfighting can get really intense, especially with Zero. Also, more planes in general in each than in 7.
X is also pretty good
@@Blupl1776 Yep, X has hands down the most variable campaign in the series, rivaled only by jp version of Electrosphere

I hope they rerelease/remaster those games for the ps4 tbh, cbf to go hunt down a ps2, my copy came with 5 for the ps4 though and I love it, especially the arcade mode.
Ace Combat 4 holds the most nostalgic value for me since it was the first game in the series that I played as a kid. It's still a really great game, and AC5 really ups the anti in a number of areas. Most notably in its storytelling. As far as AC7 is concerned, I'll have to see where it ranks for me personally after giving it a little more time to stew. That said, I absolutely loved this game and it's definitely going on my best of the year list.
AC4 was my first entry into the series. But when looking at the AC7 game, i was almost a little disappointed seeing that the interface was essentially unchanged (though fabulous graphics of course), so to me, was almost an 'already seen this' type of feeling.

I haven't played every ace combat but what I love about them is the maneuverability, especially that last level where they have you flying in tunnels or buildings, doing some high g turns, really makes you feel like a flying legend
Late as hell to the party here, but Ace Combat 4 stands out as the #1 game in the series for me. The story is great and compelling despite being told through (excellently drawn) pan-across shots of stills. And the opening animation where you're being launched off a carrier in a F4-Phantom-II was beautiful in an era where polygons were still all the rage. Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies was the true beginning of the series as we know it today. Excellent detail, tons of radio chatter, compelling story, and killer soundtrack. You can't ask for more.
All that said, The Liberation of Gracemeria for the oft-derided AC-6 is still the best Ace Combat song ever written.

For a first timer you got everything right on the money. I'm happy you liked it and I hope more people support the genre. In my opinion ace combat zero was the most intense from a gameplay an story telling aspect...
It makes you feel like a legendary ace pilot all the way to the last mission. If your gonna start anywhere start there.
I had Ace Combat 4 as a little kid on PS2...I sucked. Think I'll pick this up and give it a try. I'm not big on flying airplanes in games (I generally can't play them very well) but I'm open to give it another try.
PS
Hopefully, I won't have my curse carry over from Battlefield. Whenever I spawn in a flight based vehicle I immediately hear beep beep beep (or in the case of BF1 we just blow up). Here's to hoping I'm not as bad at this game.
It's a really good game. Been playing the series since AC4 and all of these games have a great story. First few missions should be forgiving for a new player. After a while it does get a little difficult.
It's worth trying out. When I first played AC 5 as a kid I sucked balls at it, but after many failed attempts I learned and got pretty good. Now flight sims are one of my favorite genres in gaming.
As a kid, i start playing the first ace combat release, all i can do is go highest in the sky or crash on the ground
teddies1992 the last few missions I’d say are a little more than difficult for new comers especially is they aren’t using expert controls
4 was my first, which is probably why I love it the most. And while I remember being pretty good with it, I was for the longest time stuck on the last mission. Suffice to say, I would have been pretty useless on both attacks on the Death Star.

And you still get a decent amount of mrp for replaying missions. This game is great
