  • The first arc is complete…time to wrap this baby up and move on. It’s a nice story, but it’s probably the most standard tale that Warriors has to offer among its main series, which might explain my relative ambivalence to it, despite some particular moments that I love and think of immediately when I think of the series at large. Still, nostalgic glasses shouldn’t be the only thing we use to look at an arc, so let’s begin with the analysis.

    I always fondly remembered the first arc as having lots of fantastic female characters with great range so your critique is interesting! I think you can safely chalk up any disparity to the intended audience being male; the title “WARRIORS” hardly strikes me as being intended for a primarily female audience, even if it ended up appealing more to girls in hindsight

    I feel like cinderpaw was also an important side character in the first arc being Firehearts first apprentice, and later in the series becoming the next medicine cat after yellowfang died-

    Frostfur actually had a lot of attention in the first arc. Bluestar and Firestar called on her for her wisdom often.

      That was so interesting to me because it set up the possibility that a queen would be seen as a source of wisdom!

    I would have to disagree with your female argument. Goldenflower wasn't brought up, but I distinctly remember her being one of the most interesting characters once she was able to shine. Admittedly, it took some time, but her connection to Tigerstar and having to defend her children from prying eyes of distrustful clanmates was fascinating to me.
    As for Brightheart, I always see it as Brightheart being too tired or distressed from her experience, something Cloudtail would have realized, and that's why he talked for her. Even later on, with more development and growth for her, when Daisy brings it up, we see just how hurt she is by the whole ordeal

    Great video! I'll give the first arc credit for not giving us egregiously long traveling sections outside of Firestar's quest. I'm excited to hear your thoughts on the new prophecy. I've barely read it since the first time back in middle school

    One of the many reasons I love the first arc (and Dawn of the Clans) is the forest territory. I feel like it’s so much more complex and detailed than the lake considering we’ve read many more books about the lake since they moved there in the second arc. I miss the sandy hollow, sunningrocks, and most of all Fourtrees!

    I enjoyed this video rather much, I remember when I first read the series back in 2015 and I just loved it so much! Honestly I've been trying to get all the old covers to the first series for nostalgia, I only need Forest of Secrets Now! I honestly can not believe our Warriors Franchise is really about to be 19 years old! This is crazy!
    I honestly do really enjoy your videos, keep up with the great work!

      You are right, i have always loved whitewing from the moment she was born. Because she had the perfect parents (brightheart and cloudtail) and the perfect mentor (brackenfur). So i carefully read every scene in the books with her, and i noticed how interesting she was.

    tbh I completly agree on the secondary characters point. I never got why people liked so much Sandstorm or Swiftpaw when they barely appear and do something. I get Gorsepaw's death was "sad" but I didn't really remember him when I read it.
    Newer arcs did this better but still is pretty flawed. Leafpool was friends with Cora or Sorreltail when she was a paw but after the third book it gets completly put aside (sadly).
    In general Warriors doesn't do a great job at showing relationships between cats unless is necessary to the plot (which make them frustating because the Erins use them to make unnecessary drama)
    I hope there was more character development u.u but oh well

    • @rxraltzna
      @rxraltzna Před 2 lety

      i think it’s because the ideas of these characters were so interesting and there’s a lot of room to play about with them and create own headcanons! it means people can be creative and build around the basis they were given. it’s not all about how long they were there, a lot of people like the ideas of these characters :)

    • @rxraltzna
      @rxraltzna Před 2 lety +2

      tho i do agree warrior cats is useless at establishing relationships outside of mates (even then they’re fickle). siblings don’t feel like siblings and characters don’t rlly have friends with personalities

    I really enjoyed the video! And yes, the arc is flawed and basic, but it's one of the better written series in my opinion, and they knew what they were going for *coughs and looks at power of three and omen of stars*, and Warriors would not be here without it.

    I love hearing you rant about Warriors, it’s so satisfying to see someone bring up and bring attention to the glaring problems in this series. I would also love to see you dedicate a video of you talking about some of your favorite cats, scenes, arcs, etc. I think it would be interesting hearing about what makes you love Warriors and what makes it special to you.

  • @Kelis98
    @Kelis98 Před 2 lety +4

    A dangerous path is great IDK how you could think it’s convoluted as it’s plot makes perfect sense and fireheart is interesting even if not the most complex.
    Fireheart also isn’t out of character in that book. He never seems stupid or cruel
    Also I don’t think there are any character development issues as all characters do a good job in the their role (big or small), and caring about a character through another character is perfect valid
    I don’t think there is an a lack of side characters and I never noticed or bothered by any gender inequality (and I don’t think it’s as bad as you make it out to be or that it ruins the story) but an interesting point) and there are important female characters like bluestar that you ignore.

    I would have to disagree, firestar is not generic and basic like others, he is very similar to jayfeather he is always trying to prove he is strong enough and he is always discriminated due to being a kitty pet

    Honestly I think the best arc is the dawn of the clans. Only because Grayling was the first character death I’ve ever cried in. And I enjoy the rest of the ark and it’s plot points. I’ve often theorized on what turn the clans against one another where in donut love clans they were one big huge clan basically. The prophecies begin arc. Was the first Ark I read I got so far to at least force the secrets. Before I stopped reading it and decided to read the books in chronological order the best I could. But the processes “have to be my second favorite art. Most of my favorite characters come from the first Ark superadditions and done in the clans. I definitely like the first arc it kept me engaged. Because I member staying up all night to finish the first two books. Now for the new prophecy. It’s a good follow up to the first arc. I liked all the protagonists other than bramble claw. Because he’s blaming claw and no one likes him my favorite part in the entire art was when feather tail died that really doesn’t impacted me and I think is what gave the ark it’s life. And I definitely hope we get some more stuff on feather tail in the future but I don’t think that’s gonna happen.

    While the series discussed in this video is flawed, I enjoy reading it because of the characterization and fleshing out of the characters in it. The newest series isn’t so great about doing that. It’s hard for me to even force myself to sit down and read the new series because of the poor fleshing out of the characters. It’s hard for me to care about what happens to them

    Every time a character said ok it would be like this OK ,it annoyed the crap out of me and it still does. I enjoyed the series though,but the way they had ok capitalized, all the time when they said that word really annoyed me.

    @Warriorcats64 Před 7 měsíci

    This is the best written arc specifically because it's not trying to be complex and just tell out a very basic plots in a very effective way
    While I do think The New Prophecy has the highest highs of them all, it clearly stagnated after Graystripe left, with the Crowpool drama and semi-forced arc for Brambleclaw x Hawkfrost killing off the last intrigue. It's all pretty much totally inferior, over-complicated, redundant, faux-mystic garbage with far less to say than it thinks and far too many useless characters...with only the very last Omen of the Stars book offering much.
    But what really amazes me is how frankly untoppable Tigerstar is, with only the exception of a totally 180'd Ashfur [seriously Ashpaw was great] coming close to match. And don't try and tell me "whadabbout Mapleshade" nuh huh, Tigerstar wins. Also, how did you forget Darkstripe as a sort of Peter Pettigrew/Snape/Bellatrix hybrid? He's arguably more deliciously evil and pathetic than Hawkfrost.
    The side characters serve their purposes far better, and don't feel like extra like happens later. And yes, this does mean the she-cats too, who I'd honestly say were better here since they seemed to pine less for toms. You get Sorrelkit as the eager character, Brightheart is the sweet but determined one, Fernpaw is the shy one who eventually comes out of her shell all while having to deal with a mentor who simply doesn't care...because it's Darkstripe. And how can Graypool be forgotten?
    If anything, it's the only arc that actually holds up at all. But it's definitely flawed, very limited by Firestar being far too naive and no other POV characters. The death of Redtail would've been more effective if Firestar had witnessed it unknowingly, if Redtail had just been thrown into the rockpile ala Mufasa's death, if Tigestar had said something directly to Firestar as a tip-off, or even if it directly and visibly affected Dustpelt. And of course Fernpaw x Dustpelt is very ick.
    Still, there's a reason this is the one everyone knows.

    I agree with everything except when you got to the gender part. Dhe-vays played many important roles, stop trying to make it seem like the writers are a bunch of sexists. The main character is male, which means his friends and role models that we see more often are most likely to be male as well to set an example for Fireheart. Female characters played plenty of.implrtant roles, Bluestar was a strong capable leader who Fireheart always looked up to, he was almost like her some. Cinderpelt has one of the best stories in warriors and is a very strong character. Yellowfang is a mean tempered cat but we get to see more of who she really is. Fireheart looks up to her with great respect and cared for be deeply. She was strong enough to go through a lot. I could go on.
