Soreness tends to be attractive hypertrophy-wise. However, we shouldn't forget it lowers the immune system response capacity. Training frequently in a smart moderate way keeps you energized and healthy

Same experience. The train hard mentality is very difficult to move away from. Pride is a big part of it, the idea of going balls to the wall on every workout just feels satisfying and productive. Made the most strength and muscle gains is when I learned how to scale intensity and volume in a controlled manner and learned how to throw away the ego of always training at a high intensity. Still training hard but in a controlled progression and soreness now is more of a data point than a goal to chase.

I remember going to a personal trainer for the first time lifting weights and he worked me hard to failure and beyond and for a week I couldn’t move at all this was years ago and that put me off and my weight ballooned to nearly 20 stone (280 pounds), in the last 9 months I’ve got my weight down to just over 11 stone (163 pounds) and I’ve started weight training again following your videos and I am noticing a good amount of muscle growth so thank you so much

If you diet and recover properly and hydrate like you're supposed to your body can sustain unique workloads. EVERYONE'S body is unique. What? At no point was this conversation about pumps. They’re talking about the drawbacks of chasing soreness & using that to gauge how “good” the workout was. If you’re pushing your body to your perceived limits but you don’t get sore, go ahead nothing wrong with that. What they’re saying is if you’re constantly chasing the soreness you’re probably not getting the benefits you would be getting had you scaled it back a bit & allowed your body to adapt instead of having it use its energy on recovering

Just don’t go to failure. Like say your doing a heavy leg day. You wouldn’t want to hammer your legs with 5 different hight intensity exercises, and feel like you tore all of your muscles up and you can barely walk. You’d wanna do 1 or 2 heavy exercises, and be moderate for the rest of the session. You want to feel like your muscles are slightly fatigued, not completely dead and tight. You want to be able to perform daily tasks if you need to. This is the best way to have consistency and growth
