    My BM always loves going to the park with my grandkids and myself and loves all the kids there. One day a larger 13 year highly autistic child came up to him. At first I wasn't sure how he would react to the constant stimulating and loud grunting noises so I put him back on his leash. After only a minute I knew he was good with whatever this child would present him with so I took him back off leash. He happily let the child touch him all over and he rewarded the child with kisses. Most autistic children don't like being touch but he returned my BM's kisses with his own kisses. His mom asked if he was a service dog because the dog was a calming effect for her son. We are now taking service training.

    I had a Boxer, who was fantastic. My Bullmastiff is too - a larger, calmer version! More guard oriented, much stronger, patient, erm stubborn etc Just a great dog. Make sure you have a drool towel to hand. He does have a mind of his own - if you want GSD instant obedience, then no.
    Interestingly he is very aware of surroundings and people - he will be much more watchful when walking at night, and is not keen on people walking behind when dark - he likes to keep an eye on them. Just in case!

    Got a Bullmastiff rescue 3yrs ago. Can’t believe our luck, he is perfect for us. Trouble is, I don’t want any other breed now or in the future and we will only ever get a rescue dog. Luckily, if you look online there are a couple of Bullmastiff rescue kennels dotted around U.K. So if you’re willing to travel, check them out first if you would like one of these magnificent breeds.

    I had a female bullmastiff from 2011-2019. We got her as a puppy in November 2011 and she died in September 2019 of cancer right before her eighth birthday. Now we have a male bullmastiff, who we got in December 2020 at the age of 1.5. Now he’s four. I love this breed. So affectionate, loyal, and protective. Plus completely adorable. Great video as always, Will!

    Our bullmastiff loves getting guests, as long as they don't come through the door together with us for some reason.
    If they come in together with us (especially my mom) he will stay away from her and give her little barks. The kind that a dog gives out when they are deciding whether or not they should really start barking :P
    If she stays over though, he will be looking for her for days after she has left, getting a little worried about the new pack member suddenly disappearing xD

    • @uzazil
      @uzazil Před 3 lety +2

      Do you or your guests come through the door first. If it's always you then that's fine, if your guests do it's because they don't live there. So in their minds they took over the pack. It's silly but it's more than likely what it is.

    After 13 years with my Bull Mastiff I was forced to put him down 5 days ago. Total hart brake but 13 years out of a Mastiff is very good. He was a joy after he got passed 6 years old as without question, he was the most powerful dog I have ever owned and I had Great Danes for decades. He could (and did) take on a whole pack of Pit Bulls and throw them all around like rag dolls and trust me, after them pit bulls got back up, they KNEW they had nothing for the Mastiff ! We would get back home and play in his big yard and even with their huge very sharp teeth he very rarely drew blood on me, but they do love to play really rough! Will I get another one ? no, the reason is there totally dedicated to their owners for life and if the owner passes away the dog never gets over it and is devastated for the rest of its life. I am getting very old and if I go first, I could never do that to my family member. What can I say, I am a big dog lover. Every dog I ever had was over 100 pounds and lived 11 to 18 years each. The only bad part about a Bull Mastiff is there 40% English bull dog and are without question the most STURBBEN animal's I have ever trained .

      Did you ever challenge your Bull Mastiff? I had a Rottie and used to hear people say how possessive Rotties were. I would have and did think the same thing you do about my dog. Until my brother came walking in our house one day without knocking. She hit the door at a very aggressive run. He had to jump back and slam the door while we yelled at her to drop which she did right before she hit my brother. You just never know

    Bullmastiff, Dogue De Bordeaux and English Mastiff. All 3 glorious family guardian dogs. Size wise, the Bullmastiff is the smallest in general, so easiest to "Live" with.
    All 3 are mellow in peace times, but competent in war times.
    Try not to compare these to the Neapolitan, Cane Corso and Presa Canario. These not as suited as a "Family dogs". They however are superb for more active guarding work if you have a property they can roam and guard, and of course they love their family (as dogs do).

      Sean Merrill they are great with other dogs as long as they are socialised from a pup. I put my boy in doggy daycare from a pup and now at 70kg and almost 3yrs old, he’s the only adult dog allowed in they puppy room at daycare due to his gentleness with pups and other dogs for that matter. He’s a big softy, but he is fearsomely protective of my partner when I am not home and stays by her side when with her.

      Maybe opposite gender would have the best chance of success. Mine gets on well with other dogs and he's very calm, and likes playing with my friend's new Cocker Spaniel puppy. He’s very good at determining whether a dog is all mouth and no trousers. What I would say is that he won’t be dominated, nor will he back down if a dog tries to really go for him. So if your Newfie is a dominant male, maybe I’d suggest a female, or vice versa. He’s also excellent with children.
      We also made sure to socialise him when young - straight to the pub beer garden!

      Loved our bullmastiff Bridgett. She passed at 5yo due lymphoma which I had heard wasn’t uncommon with this breed, unfortunately. Very devastating for the family. She was the heart of the house.

Also is they must difference in the nature or temperament of a male compared to a female.

      He does have some random puppy outbursts where he doesn't know this own size with her. But I can't imagine if raised with other animals from puppyhood that there would be any issues

      I had a bullmastiff and a pit bull. A boxer got in the yard and attacked the pit bull. My bullmastiff took care of it. A German shepherd charged at one of my kids while in our yard, she took care of him too. Otherwise, she showed no interest in other dogs. They showed aggression toward her family and she responded. She was great a dog parks too.

I have had bullmastiffs for over 30 years and choose the owners for my pups to suit so know what to look out for.. Always meet the parents. and choose the right breeder. There are many terrible breeders around and I am in another country.

    • @casparvonsader4505
      @casparvonsader4505 Před 3 lety +2

      Simply, Bullmastiffs & other large guardian dogs were taken FROM Britain TO S.Africa, where they bred with neighbouring farmstead or mine owner's (their original purpose, guarding said properties or mines) dogs & native dogs, down the line resulting in the Boerboel, or S.African Mastiff.
      An honest mistake anyone not deeply into the history of the two (initially) similar breeds could make.
