Yes, you can do it with Black urad dal..it will be like tirupati milagu Vada.

Thank You for uploading the Anjaneyar Kovil vadai . Nice preparation. I tried this today. Vadai came out well. But had one issue. In few vadai's there was a small bulge on the surface of the vadai while frying and also after taking it out. I was wondering where I had gone wrong. In there anyway to ensure all vadai's come-out flat without a bulge.
There could be two reasons:
1. You could have soaked the Urad Dal for more time.
2. While grinding you could have added bit more water.
These are two possibilities, why the vada could have bulged. Since ingredients are only Urad Dal and Pepper, there could not be any other reason to bulge. Thanks for the support.
