How to Setup and Install Google Chromebook with Zebra LP2844 Thermal 4x6 Shipping Label Printer

I have had a few people reach out to me about chromebook printing with a thermal 4x6 label printer. After hours of researching and tinkering I think I have found a solution and created a guide that hasn’t been published yet. Here are the steps below.
0) Before anything give the video a thumbs up and subscribe =)
1) Get a Zebra LP2844, NOT THE LP2844Z model, not the UPS LP2844 (I have not tested it with the UPS model and it most likely will not work) - Review of the printer here - • The Best Thermal Print...
2) Calibrate your printer for the 4x6 labels -
3) Download the correct .ppd file HERE - fulfilledmerchant.com/zebra-l...
The blog is new, and this post is terrible, but its a place to park the file for now.
4) Plug in printer, install with .ppd file you just downloaded
5) Print a test 4x6 label, or change your settings on ebay, etsy, poshmark, or whatever for 4x6 and generate a shipping label and print.
6) Comment below any struggles, success, other ideas or 4x6 printers you have been able to get to work on Chromebook.

YOURS STOPPED WORKING RANDOMLY? UPDATE: We think that Google Chrome updated and it changed the default quality setting to 600 dpi, change it to 203 dpi and it should fix the problem.

I received a chrome book for Christmas for my business and last night while trying to hook my printer up I’ve discovered that just about every thermal printer doesn’t sync with chrome book. Hey Eric, I have been watching your vids for a long time when I got into flipping. I just converted my old IMac that I use for my business to using Chrome OS via Neverware last night. I have used a Zebra ZP450 as my label printer but could not figure out how to connect. With your PPD file, it was as easy as you said and it does work and scale perfectly on the ZP450. What's up jon, I appreciate the support. What label are you printing? The settings could be off from the get go. I personally haven't used the zp450 on chromebook but have heard from others that it works fine. It's hard to get it all settled over CZcams comment but I can try.
@@thecollegepicker I mainly sell on eBay and use pirateship for my 4x6. My wife seems on Mercari and Poshmark, will probably have to do a little formatting on those labels because I don't believe they have 4x6 format. Thanks again

Hi, Thank you for a great informational video. That helped a lot. For your information, we tested these same steps with the Zebra UPS LP2844 and it works perfectly. We also tested your instructions with the Zebra ZP450 printer and all G series Zebra printers like GK420d, GX420d, ZP500 and others. They all work on the Chrome books.

@@thecollegepicker You are most welcome! Thank you for taking the time to make the video and for the additional information. Yes any printer that has Zebra emulation will work with your instructions. It is in their best interest to have the emulation so they work with most shipping and barcoding programs.
where did you find the gk420 ppd?
@@JJstram84 You don't need a different ppd file. the GK420d printer works with the LP2844 ppd file because it understands both EPL and ZPL printer language. The LP2844 printers understand EPL printer language. If you have to have the ZPL ppd file we can sell it to you or you can search online on how to make one. It is easy but will take too long to explain. You do not need it if you are only printing shipping labels. We have tested the LP2844 ppd file with the GK420d and it works perfectly. You will only need the ZPL ppd file if you are sending ZPL labels directly to the GK420d printer.

The Zebra ZP450 works perfect with your LP2844 PPD download fyi. Same exact set up but the system recognizes the difference and alters it. No problems, 3 min set up. Thanks

This is fantastic!!! I just set it up with a used ZP 450 that I picked up on ebay. I'm using a Chromebook with the latest updates. I printed the sample label. I also set up a 4 x 6 template in google draw and everything I created printed fine. The resolution must be at 203 or it won't print. Thank you very much!

Hello! I have it all set-up, but it wont print bar codes. Sometimes it stops at the very top, then others it gets to the top pf the bar code then stops. Test pages work and if i print a label set in the 8x10 format, it prints the barcodes. Any idea what im doing wrong? Thanks!

Hi guys! thanks for the video. But it's impossible for me to calibrate my zebra GC420t for a 4x6 label. I can do a print, there's communication between my chromebook and the printer, but my barcode will be on 2 different label. It seems that my zebra can"t understand where the label starts and ends. Any advice ?

Thanks for the PPD driver. Only issue is: How do you adjust the Darkness and Speed on the Zebra from Chromebook? I cannot open a settings section like the Windows version (I had on my old computers)
I was able to do this with my Zebra ZP 450!!!! thanks so much got a great deal on this and than realized(after buying) that it wasn't compatible with chromebook...luckily found you video!!! thanks! only thing is when i print the sample label you have posted it prints incomplete? like prints the top but only the "sample" words on the rest?
You are welcome, you might need a different power supply. It sounds like it's not getting enough power if it only prints part of the label. Check the volts and amps on the bottom of the printer and see if it matches the power supply.
When I go to print, the paper sizes are in a few common numbers (at least for me). The only one that makes sense to me is 4x6 postcard. select that but it doesn't print very large. I change the sizes but it does not recognize them and it continues to print the same. I returned the printer, I got a new one and I have the same problem. Do you think it is a problem with the printer, the chormebook or the setting?🤦🏻♀️

followed your guide and it seems to have installed, saw the quality change to 203 dpi but still no luck. I get an error that "printer unreachable." Any idea of what I can be or maybe I just got a second hand that won't work. Cant tell if just cant be read by usb.

Hello. I followed the instructions and I am 100% sure I have the correct model. When I’m printing it cuts off the very bottom of the barcode. do you know what I’m doing wrong? I am printing from Shopify, I chose 4X6 as the setting

I can't get this to work at the UPS website. UPS says you must download "their" label printer driver to print thermal labels. The driver only works on a pc or mac. Any thoughts???????

Hi College Picker! We just bought this model after watching your video. Chromebooks doesn't want to save the (more settings options) for the Zebra. We have to keep manually changing the settings to the 230 dpi / 4 x 6" / 96. Is there a way we can permanently fix this? Our Chromebooks printer settings won't let me edit as easily as Windows. Thanks in advance!

I have a mflabel DT426B. Is there a way to connect that with a chrome book?
Do you have a PPD file for GOOJPRT portable printer? I've tried everything to get it to work by Bluetooth but CB doesn't recognize it. However CB does find it by USB cord. I tried the Zebra PPD file it prints it but not in English. The generic ones that CB comes with same issues prints but not in English or right format. Same issue with all the Bluetooth printer apps. 😭

But it doesn't print continuously, a label with 2 pages - such as customs and postage label together - first page prints then waits like 5 seconds then prints the second page. Curious if you had any advice on what to do for my printer. I got an idprt sp410. At the time I had a windows. Now I have a chromebook. I've got it hooked up. It's printing. But it's printing blanks. I've calibrated it, made sure the paper is facing correctly. Any advice is greatly GREATLY appreciated

Wondering if anyone can help. I have TLP 2844 and for some odd reason it stopped working if I try printing more than 1 label. Say I have 4 pages to print, it will print page 1 and the top of page 2, then stop. And my chromebook says it couldn't reach the printer to print. If I do one page at a time it works, but my laptop keeps saying it couldn't print. It's a little annoying to have to print each page 1 by 1 and is time consuming when I have to print a lot of orders.
