They included this video in the “Experience USC Viterbi” app and you seriously rocked the shit out of it. I loved the honesty, please narrate all the videos!
Thanks Dave! Always great tips.
I had my 1st tech internship last summer and you hit the nail on the fact that nobody gives a shit about an intern being there. They just gave interns a personal project to work on throughout the summer and then there is a low chance that your work gets pushed into production/market. Your manager and mentor will not care about your existence there as long as you work every day. They will dedicate maybe 1 hr of their time max per week.
Thank you for the video! Very helpful
Thank you for your advice. I'm a sophomore in Computer Engineering, trying to get some experience this summer. After watching your video, I wrote to an angel investor (in tech) I knew while living in San Francisco. In the message, I asked if he would advice me of companies, familiar to him, that need intern help. Fingers crossed!
+Joyce Rodriguez That's awesome. Best of luck. I'm sure he would know many up and coming companies where you might be able to get an internship at! Let me know how it goes
Joyce how did it go? What were your results? Thanks!
Very informative. Much more useful than the mainstream crap regarding online applications. They all spit me back out.
Start with your inner circle! Absolutely! Otherwise, it's just cold calling and cold contacting and after years of trying this in business, I know it doesn't work. Great advice. Cheers!
It sucks when you don't have a family to begin with and you're also in a foreign country :(
hey Greetings from Venezuela! thanks for that
thank you so much. it help me
+Dave Xiang In your opinion where do you think OSS contribution fits as an internship? I'm referring to the programs like GSOC and even independent OSS contribution to a not-so-popular project if not popular.
+Vivek Pal I think those can only complement your resume and help but it would not be considered with the same weight as a real internship.
Hey Dave,
So I know that you went to CMU for electrical and computer engineering and I plan on going the same route this upcoming fall season. I wanted to know what the residential life is like. For some reason, there's a huge belief that CMU has a boring campus void of any social excitement. Can you tell me what kind of student activities you guys had? Maybe any field days, sports events, etc? Thanks
+Fernando Paulino Hey Fernando, congratz on getting into CMU, that's awesome. Honeslty, CMU is a hit or miss for a lot of people and I think the deal breaker is probably the social. It's like the only thing that can keep you kind of sane with the workload. I would def try to get involved in one club, I'm sure they have something for one of your hobbies. At the beginning of each semester, the social clubs do a little fair to get new students to sign up. You should stop by there. It's def not boring, but you have to find something fun to do. If you put in zero effort to finding it, you WILL be bored and you will get tired from all the work.
Yeah Fernando, I agree with Dave. Social aspect is hugggeee in college and you definitely wanna be on campus in order to have the best overall university experience. Cheers!
What programming languages do you know?
You should do a video about Computer Information Systems. What your take on it is being a Computer Science degree holder from the arguably the best CS school in the world lol.
hey, I m a b.tech student from India. I am interested in teaching and research works rather than working for a company, any suggestions?
Well then you need to go into academia. You should probably go to grad school in order to teach engineering or be a researcher. What do you think about that? A good fit for you?
What kind of camera do you use bro? lol great videos as always btw
+M HUSSLE it's a Canon EOS Mark II
For foreign????
I want to start programming, but I don't find a easy way. Any help
+SkillzDayzz Hey man, you're right, there is no easy way! Good luck
+Dave Xiang any websites so I can learn it in the hard way(only way) for free?

+Dave Xiang oh hell no
Hello sensei.
