UPDATE: hi everyone, I’ve checked the triggers to A Little Life and you guys were not playing at all. 😭😭 Safe to say I will not be reading this book anytime soon.
No shame at alll, I think this book is beautifully written yet the impact and weight it has is no joke, it’s been over a year since reading it and I still think about it, not to be taken lightly at all
yeah, i read that book when i was about 14 and i regret it😭
I am admitting freely that I won’t be reading this book. No shame, everyone has their own threshold of emotions.

It looks like we’re proper boozers, but we’re not at all! My early to mid 20’s though, that’s a different story 🙈
For A Little Life make sure you’re in a good headspace before you dive into it because it is really intense. 💛

Yeah definitely check out other people's vlogs and trigger warnings before reading it. I personally chose to never read it after reading about how the author treats trauma basically as p*rn and seems to get off on torturing her characters and traumatizing readers.
@@user-qu8zs7vs1x I didn’t find that to be true in my experience. There are people out there that live through those traumas exactly as written. It could be eye opening to you.
omg! we started booktube around the same time! I love another Black woman creator who has a diverse range of tastes. I'm incredibly impressed by how unafraid you are of sadness/emotional books. Im planning to read The Color Purple soon and I'm taking extra care of myself while I do. I hope you will too for Precious (and if you ever read a little life).

I loved Noughts and Crosses. I had to read it for english class in high school and then ended up reading the whole series after.
I find your videos very comforting and enjoyable even though I read quite different books to you (my preference is always fantasy hehe). This video also inspired me to get out of my reading comfort zone and expand the genres I read❤️🔥

Noughts and Crosses is one I've always meant to read and never got around to, I may have to finally get to it in 2024!
I have New Animal on my list too! Absolutely adore A Little Life - one of my all time favourites but I definitely agree with the comments below about making sure you're in a good headspace before you read it! Noughts and Crosses was the first book that ever made me cry. I remember reading it at 10 or 11 and it honestly changed my life forever.

you are one of the only few people that ive seen talk about “all thats left in the world” and if you enjoy it (and because you like heartstopper as well) i would recommend “the other ones” as a fall book

9:19 this reminded me of having watched the movie in high school (as in at school, during one of our classes) 10+ years ago, and how much of an impact it had on me at the time. I'd totally forgotten about it, probably because it was so traumatizing.

I'll have to check out All That’s Left In The World, I have loved the Heartstopper comics since they first started coming out, and the show is a perfect adaptation. I admire you for being able to read books with much heavier content like Push/Precious. For the past few years I've had to avoid anything that I think will be too emotionally disturbing.
I love your Twilight collection! I read that and was completely engulfed in the story haha fun times! I just purchased a completes set of Harry Potter and will be enjoying my re read!

youtube recommended your channel to me today and i’m so glad it did ❤️ i’m also disabled and have been housebound for the last year due to my illness & pain getting worse after being infected with covid in early 2022; i empathize so deeply with your feelings of loneliness and defeat that you’ve mentioned while talking about your health journey. reading has similarly come back into my life in a big way and has brought a lot of comfort to me. you’re such a lovely, warm presence on booktube and i so appreciate your candidness about your life-not to mention your taste in books! you deserve all of the subscribers you’ve gotten so far and many more, and i love that you’ve attracted a community of folks in the same position as us who deal with chronic illness and love to read.
i’m also definitely glad to see you’ve reconsidered a little life after some of the comments. i know it’s very popular and hanya is a talented writer technically, but i and many others consider the book to be little more than torture porn. as a queer person it makes me extremely uncomfortable that a straight author has been so celebrated for writing a story about queer characters experiencing trauma after trauma with very little joy to the point of it being unrealistic; several of hanya’s comments also clearly point to her fetishizing queer pain. i respect that some folks who read the book connected to it, but i do think that a lot of people (and this is not just re: a little life) confuse a book eliciting an emotional response and making them cry with it being a good, quality book. i personally would advise against reading the book at all in the future, but understand if your curiosity gets the better of you-just wanted to make a note of these things. other than that, your haul/tbr looks so great!!
