Japanese Spider-Man is a weird, silly character with a ton of unique oddities to him; between Leopardon, Marveller, the Spider Bracelet, the Spider Protector, and the Spider-Machine GP-7, Supaidaman has a ton of Tokusatsu gadgets that you would never expect Spider-Man to use: he even pioneered the usage of the Megazord in Power Rangers! So, before he appears in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, let's do a deep dive into the entire history of Supaidaman from Japanese Spider-Man!

Watch out I’m the emissary of hell supaidaman
SPIDERMAN is CHRISTIAN TOO. JESUS CHRIST is KING.!!! :3
@@melonshop8888 I was just making a joke because that’s what he says in the show, I’m all for Jesus but this is not the time
Interesting fact: When Takuya cried over his dad's death, it was improvised and genuine. Cos during the day when the scene was filmed, Shinji Todo (Takuya's actor) father passed away, and Toei allowed the actor to express his real self.
I'm not sure how "fun" this fact is... But, still, very interesting.
@Soro Cos actors weren't allowed to improvised at that time so Shinji Todo was probably the first to do so in a Tokusatsu
Damn, son. 😭
''fun fact''
Sad fact
“Takuya does his best but he doesn’t always succeed.”
And that’s why despite everything, all the weird liberties and out there choices this show makes, Takuya IS Spider-Man.
That also makes Takuya’s Spider-Man a tokusatsu!
It's weird in the way that while this is completely different of a Spider-Man, he still captures the very essence of Spider-Man
@@JohnPeacekeeper Exactly. An ordinary guy living an ordinary life who just so happened to be the one to become Spider-Man and continues to fight crime because it is his responsibility.
I love how in the Comics, Leopardon's Sword Vigor is canonically one of the only ways to permanently defeat the Inheretors, making Leopardon's Sword Vigor one of the most powerful attacks in the marvel multiverse.
"you are the only other person in the universe who can hear my telepathy"
i like to think this fucking weird ass unexplained plot point is actually something to do with the Spider-Totem
It is in fact !
They walked so the spider totem story could run
I hate you for reminding me because it makes sense here
@@hanaisnoyaelaborate for me please I’m dum about spider totems because I don’t like a lot of the brain rot in modern comic writing

The hilarious part is that it's actually genius that the production that the Japanese Spider-Man would actually need a car and a flying vehicle because there isn't enough buildings or high places in places Spider-man ends up in to swing on.
Didn’t even think of this
could be explained in the story that the spider alien race is a wolfspider/tarantula type
so this spiderman didnt bother with webs much
I love how in every episode for no reason the antagonist is able to grow huge, so he calls in his robot and combos the shit out of them. 10/10
That little show went on to make the best selling show in Japan and the us, the super sentai and power rangers series
All about merchandising selling toys to kids lol
@@Manowar458 sentai was before supaidaman
@@dragcoldbruh4981 ik but if it weren’t for supaidaman the next sentai series wouldn’t have a giant robot
@@Manowar458 there were giant characters in kamen rider show b4 super sentai
Takuya holding the baby kitten and swearing to revenge the old cat lady is the cutest most absurd shit ive ever seen
Doggy loving spidey better
Let's be honest. A series this bizarre on its own definitely deserves the 2 hours worth of a deep dive
We need equally long retrospectives for each season of super sentai and kamen rider.
The Japanese Spider-Man is just that: A Japanese hero who wears the costume and the name. And honestly, that's the right thing to do. Considering that Peter Parker and his exploits are deeply engrained in western culture, giving the Eastern world its own Spider-Man to brag about was both a stroke of genius and a genuinely influential move spawning the later Super Sentai shows among other Tokusatsu. Japanese Spider-Man is one of the most influential iterations of the character whilst being its own thing for a different audience, and that's fine by me.
He does feel very spiderman like in a weird way, in the sense that anyone truly can be spiderman as long as they have a good heart and perseverance
@@illford6921
And a dead family member.
@@illford6921 yeah exactly. Despite his differences , he very weirdly fits in with the other spider people in the spider verse events
True! Also if not because of super sentai cross fusion in Megaman NT warrior won't become a thing!
In a way it was ahead of its time. Our first exposure to the idea that anyone can be Spider-Man regardless of their culture or background
PSA: The announcement that Takuya was gonna be in Across the Spider-Verse was made BEFORE a lot of changes in development causing Beyond the Spiderverse to be kinda the part 2 to Across.
So he's gonna appear, just give it a year.
I'm already waiting for the 3rd sonic movie, so yeah... I can wait.
We gotta pull a Sword Vigor to Sony if that doesn't happen
Everything about supaidaman i love
He's silly but can hit with very emotional scenes
His world is pretty f ed up
Kids lose their parents everyday
And people are in danger
But even when he cant save everyone he still tries his hardest.
His family and friends always talk shi about him but he just takes it .
He's like peter but more tragic and japanese.
And all this ties into the lyrics of his theme song. A hero walks a lonely path to save everyone. But no matter what he just keeps getting up .
Despite his goofiness, he is undoubtedly spider-man
"He's like peter but more tragic and japanese" is such a good phrase lol
Exactly. Despite how different this show was, Takuya proves he really is worthy of being a Spider-Man.
He sees a death in almost every episode
1:25:12 I love the idea that the cockroach machine monster was the only one with a shred of humanity left
Bro got a spaceship that turns into a giant lethal robot a flying car shooting missiles a multi functional spider suit within a bracelet , he's literally the ultimate SPIDAMAN
I think one of the appeals to Japanese Spider-Man is the fact that in most cases, he feels like a Friendly-Neighborhood Spider-Man, sure he doesn't quite have the smarts of Peter Parker but he makes up for it with heart. The high number of episodes also allows him to interact with more people outside of the main cast, which is a bit of a shame, since Spider-Man movies nowadays just want to make a cast full of cameos rather than characters that allow Spider-Man to become more neighborly, or something along those lines.
Also, I really like his suit for some reason, as in the comics, villains and heroes alike often comment on how crappy Spider-Man's suit is but I really don't see it, always feels like it was made by a professional especially in the movies. While Japanese Spider-Man captures it nicely creating this odd yet appealing design to me.
Shoooo...I've seen him kick a woman off a building and sacrifice a kitten by throwing into fire. He used a machine gun tk blow away a whole room of men. He assault multiple women in the show. He's like, a Friendly Italian Neighborhood Spiderman.
@@oljimeagle6779found Japanese J. Jonah Jameson
Something I don't see brought up often about this series is how many prominent female characters it has. Not just as a supporting cast or as girlfriends for the hero to save or be loved by, but actually involved ladies who do stuff. Several female antagonists (arguably only the female antagonists even) pose a threat to Spider-man. There is even stuff like the episode with the female detective who follows in her dead husband's footsteps and is taken seriously. I know this doesn't seem outstanding from a modern perspective, but back when this show was aired this was highly unusual in most TV shows in Japan. This show inspired not just Mecha, Super Sentai and most Toukusatsu, but it was pioneering all over the place.
Amazoness is genuinely a really cool villain, kinda wanna see a 616 take on her
Honestly I'd say it's impressive even by today's standards. Lots of this stuff today has some underlying political reason or forces it in poorly. It's pretty natural here.
@@GabrielPhillipsAeroSkyStar This show also had political points to make, including how women are perceived. These things are inherently political. It's just that to modern sensibilities the things these old shows critisized and focused on are not always relevant anymore. This goes twice as much for foreigners who watch it out of its cultural context.
A good example will always be the Godzilla franchise. The first movie as well as Shin Godzilla are harsh critiques of the Japanese government for different issues in different eras. The original was mostly about the horror of nuclear power and how it will destroy humanity one day, while Shin Godzilla deals with the passivity and weakness of the Japanese government in regards to crisis and burning issues. But to a casual western audience it could as well just be monster movies.
To be perfectly fair the early Kamen Rider and Super Sentai did too, so it wasn't that uncommon for Toei shows before Spiderman came out.
Hell, Stronger's sidekick (ELECTRIC WAVE HUMAN TACKLE, what a name) was a girl who kicked ass because they got letters from kids saying they wanted to have a girl hero too and they said "sure, why not?".
wouldn't say only the female villains, the merman and lobster dude both seemed to give him a hard time
Wow. Takuya has been going through a LOT of Canon Events from the first 1/4 of this series alone.
29:48
"He follows the cat demon"
"It turns huge"
"Leopardon"
*explosion*
lol
What's funnier is that this Spidey knows that using the Sword Vigor is a guarantee kill against these giant creature but he refuse to use that right away because thats not fun for him lmao
Spiderman was one of many series where Toei made monsters of the week based on animals and plants. Ironically this show is the only one I can think of where the show's roster doesn't include a spider monster. Maybe, just maybe it would have been able to resist the Sword Vigor. But probably not.
It amazes me to no end that this was the 1970s japanese kid's introduction to spiderman.
I legitimately got so sad as soon as your recap of the main series ended cause I just wanted more of Japanese spiderman!!
you and me both. never been so sad as when I finished the last episode
And emisses from hell, SPAIDAMAN
@@lumisweb ill miss SWORD VIGOR
Takuya feels like a precursor to characters like Miles Morales and Miguel O'hara, a different take that proves you don't need to be Peter Parker to be Spider-Man.
He really needs to show up on the final Spider-Verse movie, on terms of alternate spideys he's the OG

We can't ignore that the actor who plays spiderman is a geniunely handsome dude too ;)

Literally the strongest alternate spiderman, cool bike, badass car, plane, giant robot and AK-47, he is the best.

it would be funny if Leopardon had multiple different weapon systems, but Supaidaman was so bloodthirsty he just want for the full power sword kill each and every time.

1:45:38 A "Cobalt Bomb" is a type of nuclear bomb this is designed to maximize the effects of nuclear fallout. It basically covers whatever area it's detenated in with extra radioactive material along with the regular damage done by nuclear bombs.
Damn, some people really looked at the already devastating and horrifying effects of a regular nuke and thought "Hmm, how can I make this worse?"
So its like a kind of dirty bomb?
horrifying!
the iron cross army fr went from kidnapping 3 children to Nuclear Annihilation
We all love Supaidaman, best spiderman ever, not best Peter because he's Takuya but he is best
Japanese Spider-Man makes me wish we got to see Japan’s takes on other Marvel heroes, could you imagine Japanese Hulk? It would be like a Kaiju movie and his origins with radation… I mean come on, it basically writes itself.
There was a Hulk Take that Toku did. Shin Kamen Rider, the older version.
Peter: With great power comes great responsibility.
Takuya: Professor Monster is dead!
Ah a great video of one of the best Spider-Man adaptations. Good job Kumo. Also fun fact, the cowboy from episode 31 is another tokusatsu actor. He was Kamen Rider V3.
Don't forget he was also Aorenger and Big One.
Yo he's in this show as well 😮
He was also the legendary Kaiketsu Zubat aka Ken Hayakawa: The Best at Everything in Japan.
Oh i thought he looks familiar
This is the MOST silly, hilarious, crazy, yet dark Series I've seen 😂😂.
It's hard to take seriously yet it has serious moments.
I've never seen it myself but it's definitely interesting.
Seriously though: people seem to die a lot in this Series: getting shot, getting thrown off bridges, getting run over by vehicles. Holy shit 😂
japanese super heroes don't pull punches lol
Supaidāman: *exists*
Batman (Adam West): _At long last, I found a worthy opportunity! Our battle will be legendary!_

Can't wait to see this Spider-Man appear in Across the Spider-Verse. It's going to be weird af!!
They'd better include the robot
AND cool asf
@San Diego Spiderman You mean Super Sentai/Power Rangers?
I'm hoping they go full sentai, and have Penni Parker's robot combine with it in some way to make it even more powerful.
he wasn't there. but to be honest if he's only used as a background character that would be a disservice to his legacy and usefulness to the multiversal canon as a whole.
Spider-Man suffering from the sting of the bee all episode but then randomly declaring he is immune to bee stings has me more annoyed than I should be lol
Great video and deep dive into this insane, but quite entertaining show.
Unless it was obtained immunity, like after being stung once he adapted
@@kociarzultimate384 he is a human spider hybrid after all. Humans have the infinite potential of adaptation... so I guess it makes sense?
He simply forgot
I mean he did declare himself the champion of martial art, right after he got his ass handed to him
Takuya at any given point: man I miss my bike
So wholesome when Stan Lee called him “ my son “
I really hope that, when he appears in Beyond the Spider-verse, they don't have Takuya side with Miguel, or use him for a cheap gag of just announcing himself and posing.
Nah he’s gonna be the one to defeat Spot once and for all
Kinda funny how a beetle turned machine bem had a heart but a human biker just becomes a mindless drone
Because the beetle was a kabutomushi, that was probably inspiration for the Heisei Kamen Rider show named after that beetle and the Worms. Lol
Japanese Spider-Man: Got a problem? Uhhh SWORD VIGOR!
Genuinely great video dude, not enough people actually talk about how insane this show was and I can’t describe how extremely happy I was to see this was OVER 2 HOURS! Keep up the work

The Iron Cross Army seems to be an extremely formidable organization. Even with Spiderman and Interpol constantly trying to get them. They just keep getting back and keep making mayhem.
Idk. These dudes were introduced as a planet destroying calamity, yet they can't conquer one city and deal with one superpowered human despite having numerous monsters and minions
@@floricel_112 Takuya is just built different.
@@floricel_112 That may be a testament to how strong Spider-man is instead of a point against the Iron Cross.

My Japanese dad loved this show when he was a kid 😅 ..
He also bought that robot ..
If you think about it, supaidaman is pretty close to spiderman original idea (aside from mecha and stuff).
He lost gramp, he lost his lover, the person viewed as weirdo, he tried his best though would often fail and he wasn't rich like tom spiderman
Hoping to see Leopardon in Beyond the Spiderverse!

I love how Toku shows are basically all the same in a way. Having a character who’s some kind of daredevil. And is given a gismo from an alien guy who’s planet was destroyed. that then allows them to transform into a hero.
This has been one of your best videos to date. I love the humor you add on with your editing skills and tone of voice. I just wish this would get the recognition it deserved as it is EXTREMELY well made. Bravo!

You capture an appreciative yet tongue in cheek sort of tone in your writing on toku that I admire. I feel as though a lot of creators miss out on this sort of thing when talking about the genre but you are nailing it. Nice work!
aw, thank you! i appreciate that a lot ✨
Tachibana's Actor Hiroshi Miyauchi will later play a Guitar Weilding Cowboy that transform in to a Red Super Hero with a Flying Car named Zuvatt so his main protagonist stance will get him his own show (Well he also did Kamen Rider V3 before Spider-Man)
It's kinda funny that this particular Spiderman, who depends on high tech gadgets and futuristic vehicles for 90% of his abilities, is not a nerdy geek like most spidermen and is instead just a simple guy who really likes riding his bike.
I would've called him a himbo, but he's not actually stupid. He has a lot of streetsmart and his investigative skills are pretty good, even without the help of his watch. If the bike (racing?) thing isn't paying well for him, Takuya could do well as a private detective. It'll be easier for him to cover up his activities as Spiderman too.
Edit: I wrote the comment before learning just how many kid detective clubs are featured in the show. Someone on the writing staff really like detective plots..
Tbf, he has his spider-sense that helps a lot with investigating.
I just realized... japanese spider-man has narrower eyes than american spider-man

Superior Spiderman recommending Supaidaman to end the fight in the most efficient way is a more enjoyable reason as to why the 2nd half of the TV series has shorter kaiju fight scenes, instead of the suit being stolen irl.
This is a great video! If not all, most of the jokes were on point and it was a very detailed yet summarized version of our emissary of hell, spiderman! Also, I really love the cowboy. His gun guitar didn't have to be so cool, but it is. 10/10 character.
