    Chris thank for your excellent videos, are really useful for those of us who are enthusiasts and have a Vette.
    I am from Costa Rica and recently purchased a 1985 C4 with 83k miles that had been in storage for over 5 years.
    Your videos have definitely been very useful to be able to carry out the necessary work to make it operational.
    Thank you

    Thanks again for an excellent video! I'm about to change the trans fluid in my '90, but with a twist. I want to install a drain plug. Thanks to your video, I know exactly where it needs to go. I'm going to drill a small hole in the bottom of the pan before removing it. The fluid will drain out with no mess. After the pan is off I'll enlarge the hole and insert the drain. I like to change the fluid in the pan at every oil change, and this will make it a snap.

      @mycorvettelife  Před 3 lety +1

      I do believe the aftermarket has trans pans with drain plugs. You may check into it.

    If you suck out the old fluid through the fill tube, you will literally have no mess when you pull the pan.

    • @footballref11
      @footballref11 Před 3 lety

      Looking closely I can see the fill tube with the dip stick still in it with the pan off.

    Not internet hype...happened to me on my 77 cougar when I was a youngster. Changed the fluid, right after, lost the trans.

    I am getting ready to do this on my 85.... At 8:12, you show the O-ring stuck in the hole. It looks like a metal seal and not a rubber o-ring? How did you fish that out? Was it a rubber O-ring or a metal seal that came out?

    How can I drain the torque converter, Line Flush?
    My '74 Vette has the '86 Indy Pace Car.
    Same filter you demo.
    Is there a special tool for removing the old filter rubber grommet?
    The reason for asking is some AHole put water in my tranny fluid...enough said?

    My friend’s Toyota pickup transmission was destroyed by a transmission flushing system.
    So when my Honda van was due for a transmission fluid change the dealer wanted to do a system flush. I called Honda America they said no it would void my warranty. They said the factory Scheduled main is designed for drain and fill. The engineers know there is going to have oil residual in the torque converter.

  • @colt5189
    @colt5189 Před 3 lety +1

    When I do mine, I plan to let it sit for like two weeks so I can get as much fluid drained back into the pan from the torque converter so I'm able to change of it out. Then in a month, I'll do it again so I can try and get all of the fluid changed out. My fluid has always been pink, but I'm hoping when I drop the pan that I don't find a bunch of trash in the bottom of the pan. It's been a while since I replaced the filter. I also picked up the newer GM transmission magnet that is supposed to be stronger than the square magnet. It's round like a donut.
    The last time I did mine, I got a rubber gasket. As you don't have a mess to scrape off. Though I couldn't find one again and instead got the expensive Moroso reusable gasket.
    I like using the Scott "heavy duty" blue shop towels. They hold up and don't tear to shreds, and they don't leave behind much fibers.

    That looks like an automatic transmission. What do you do for a standard 6 speed transmission in a 1995 Corvette Coupe with an LT1 engine and I think a Borg Warner trahsmission.

    I recommend getting a Zebralight headlamp. Get the floody version. They are real bright and way better than the headlamps you get at the store. The 18650 battery is rechargeable, so you'd have to also get a charger.

    Excellent Video, BUT ! not sure about the use of the Jack Unit, My brother had such a unit, BUT ! after having it for 2 years the Jack Unit hose line blew out / broke, glad he wasn't under the unit. He had a tall barn and bought a regular High Lift Jack Unit.

      It has locks, just like any kind of post lift. So if anything did happen it wouldn’t fall on you. I’ve had it for 4 years and use is all the time.

    Actually, I think the transmission pan bolts are supposed to be torqued to 96 in/lbs. Luckily you didn't snap any going to 144 in/lbs.

    • @elielhernandez850
      @elielhernandez850 Před rokem +1

      colts right. jus drained my fluid and was putting the pan back on when i torqued them to 144in/lbs damn snapped the bolt in half.

    • @colt5189
      @colt5189 Před rokem

      @@elielhernandez850 Dang, hopefully you can get it out. I believe they may make something where you drill a dimple into the broken off bolt. And then put some kind of special bit into like an impact wrench or drill or something, and the idea is it bits into the broken off bolt via the dimple and unscrews it. I don't believe it's a garantee.
      Luckily I've never snapped a bolt off when working on a car.
