This is JMHO but I think Byler has been building up since season 1 not Mileven. There's so many subtexts, hidden details, subtle hints and clues that actually points to Mike having romantic feelings for Will. Check out some Byler analysis videos ( including this one too ). I mean it ranges from Mike's behavior, stuff in his bedroom, the clothes he wears, even his playlist which the show gives him, but in the show for me at least has Mike being more interested in Will then the other way around. And Will was confirmed to be gay and in love with Mike after season 4. Mike has internalized homophobia which in season 1 both Lucas and later Nancy made him feel like he had to like girls because he kept one in his basement mainly to keep her safe from the bad men and because she knew about Will. Then his dad has indicated that being " gay " was wrong. In the first episode when his dad said " you see Michael, you see what happens ...... " thinking Will was "killed " in a hate crime because later when Troy and James bully Mike, just Mike not Lucas not Dustin, only Mike to bully him about Will being gay and that Troys dad even thinks Will was killed by another gay person. Then Troy deliberately trips Mike. Then at the school when Troy and James were laughing at the memorial Mike confronts them, which at that point Mike literally pushed Troy down. Then his dad again says to Connie Frazier " our son with a girl? " It's all subtext. And that's only a fraction of what happens in season 1 that hints that Mike has feelings for Will. He literally sobbed biking home and hugging Karen after yelling at El when they pulled that dummy out of the lake. Caressing Will's drawings he keeps in a binder. And isn't it strange that when Mike lies to El in the monologue during season 4 when even she knows he's lying about " his life started the day he met her " when that isn't what happened at all if we go back to episode 2 " The Weirdo On Maple Street " of season 1. Sorry so long just wanted to point out that I really believe Byler has been building up since season 1.
@pllandstfan I don't think you understand Mileven that much tbh. Mike missed will because they were apart of a friend group. Not only mike dude. Dustin and Lucas missed him too. It's giving you wanna excuse Lucas and Dustin for a ship that isn't gonna happen to happen. Also Troy and the other dude bullying mike has nothing to do with mike being gay? He wasn't the only one being bullied there. Troy was also talking to Dustin and Lucas. Don't excuse true facts just to make a ship you like happen. Now it's my turn to tell you why Mike loves eleven and not will. You do realize eleven was the first girl that liked him, didn't judge him at all, and made him feel the way he feels right now. Why would the duffer brothers kill off a great relationship that mileven has build up for the past 4 seasons for byler? That would be dumb and stupid to mileven fans and smart stranger things fan. They been through a lot more than byler whole relationship together. Mike kept eleven because he felted bad for her and he was wondering what happened to her. The way you said "our son with a girl?" Please explain how that makes him gay? In the show we realize that their like a weird group and nobody hangs out with them. Plus he has never interact with a girl that likes him unlike eleven. Also do realize that mike was crying for eleven too when the demogorgon took her? Your acting like he only cares for will and nobody else. He was gonna jump off a cliff for Dustin. We may as well start shipping mike and dustin. Right? You're saying just because will is gay and he's in love with mike means mike gay? No-one forcing him to like girls. He just likes girls which I'm pointing to is eleven. You saying mike lied in the monologe is insane because it was never confirmed to be a lie. Yet y'all byler fans would come up with anything just to make a fan ship come to live am I right or wrong rn? The part where you bring up mike confronts troy and his friends for laughing at Will. @@pllandstfan usually if two characters get in a relationship it’ll be in prior seasons so that they can film the typical scenes like dates fights break ups etc, but most importantly give them more screen time together. If you ask me, they wouldn’t make byler happen in the last season because there’s just no point.
