    I think the part that really broke my heart about her death happens later on when Flora is being taken by the lady of the lake to be drowned. Rebecca is following them and continually tells Flora that she will not feel a thing and that Rebecca will trap her in a memory while it happens. This implies that Rebecca was going to feel the drowning AGAIN just so Flora wouldn't. Even though we already saw how much it traumatized her when she confronts Peter about it.

    The scariest thing about this is that things like these happen in real life.
    People romanticize putting themselves in danger for their significant others. And no one who truly loves you would be willing to take you to the grave.
    Peter saw Rebecca as his lifeguard. The medicine for his trauma. Some people just don’t know what love really is.
    This contrasts with the ending, **spoiler** where Jamie is willing to let the lady of the lake kill her to be with Dani again. But Dani doesn’t let her, cause she wants her to go on with her life, even if it means they can’t physically be together.
    It is truly a love story.

  • @noone13_
    @noone13_ Před 3 lety +787

    Don't romanticized their toxic and selfish relationship. I think you should go to therapy if you sympathize with Peter. He never loved her. He just kept her soul for himself. Becca is a good person but she deceived by his lies.This scene is deeply traumatic and i think this is the saddest part of this story. She tried to build a career as a strong woman then she became a slave of an asshole.

      @moxiemaxie3543 Před 3 lety +42

      He loved her, just because someone does something bad doesn't mean they're evil. Its good to understand someone's pain. He loved her but because of his molesting or abuse we as a child and how his mom ignored it, he didn't know how to love properly. Its okay to understand why someone becomes a monster. Trust me, I dated someone who was an evil asshole. He loved me I never doubted it. But he was fucked up in the head and i needed to protect myself before its too late and my life is ruined. Some people like Becca aren't fortunate enough to see that until they are screwed over

      @therenegade916 Před 3 lety +111

      I sympathize with him only to the extent that he was physically and sexually abused by his father while his mother stood by and did nothing. It explains (but does not excuse) his outlook and behavior as an adult and through the course of the series. He doesn’t know or understand real love and relationships. The themes of love and ownership are on display- especially between him and Rebecca versus Dani and Jaime.

    • @icantthinkofaname1062
      @icantthinkofaname1062 Před 3 lety +93

      @@moxiemaxie3543 true, doing something bad doesn’t mean you’re evil, but killing an innocent women, lying to someone you know trusts you to selfishly kill them and then let them feel the pain of dying, and then deciding to posses an innocent child to cheat death is more than just doing something bad. He was a monster and no amount of trauma can excuse that. If he really loved her, he’d want to see her alive and well, even if it was without him. Like Dani did with Jamie. She went back to Bly to become the lady in the lake because she loved Jamie too much to put her in danger, and then when Jamie wanted to switch places with her, she wouldn’t let her. That’s the difference between love and possession that Dani and Jamie were talking about early on. For me, this was one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the entire series. Not only does she trust him to take care of her but when he decides to kill her, he is too much of a coward to feel it himself, leaving her all alone on a selfish choice he made on his own, without her consent. And when, in the end, Viola snatched Flora and dragged her to the lake, the poor woman tried to tuck her away so she would feel the pain instead of her. Her bravery was remarkable, even after all she went through because of Peter, she would still go through it again to protect Flora. Rebecca was a hero, despite the bad choices she made, which, even those, she made under Peter's influence and because she loved him. And her crying over her dead body still gives me goosebumps, it will stay with me forever. I'm still not over this, I could write an entire essay on it.

    What if Peter never left Rebecca's body? Like she is in a dream while her body is drowning and never return. Maybe her body was scared bc it was Peter inside of her and he saw his body on the lake (and he was screaming bc he was dying too lol). Just thinkin

    • @awkwardlymatt
      @awkwardlymatt Před 3 lety +6

      Nope. She was sent from the “tucked away” place to reality where she was drowning because he left her body. She confirmed this later when she confronted him, saying he left her there to die on her own. In the end, he selfishly wanted her to himself and couldn’t even handle the pain himself, so put her through it instead

      I haven't watched this show in a hot minute but I think Peter died because he ran into the Lady of the Lake while she was mindlessly walking around the house. Something like that. I don't remember who was at the bottom of the lake tho

    • @iamsherlocked345
      @iamsherlocked345 Před 7 měsíci

      When he’s in that same loop it’s basically implied his father abused him and other children ( at least that’s what I got from it) he tells her “you knew yet you let kids come over”. As to why he died hummm the house/lady of the lake needed another body I think.

      The whole concept of this series is Gothic Romance, I guess (?). Peter didn't expect anything else other than possess Rebecca all just for himself, by killing her it means that Rebecca will always remain by his side, no matter what. Later on we then know that Peter was planning on taking over Miles and Flora's body, so he and Rebecca can be alive one more time together. This is a toxic-selfish Love. But as you can see on the few last episodes that Rebecca is a good hearted woman, by not getting along with Peter's plan.

    Rebecca is a selfish, narcissistic personality. If she was truly a caring person, she wouldn't have given into Peter's charms and flattery. If it was Dani, it would have been impossible for Peter to manipulate her.
    But Becca played along with him in all his schemes.
    1. Peter never loved Becca. He just needed a tool to enter Bly Manor so that he can deceive Henry with his pretence.
    2.Pete and Becca were absolutely toxic that they didn't hesitate to screw poor Miles' sanity. Even after completely aware of what he is up to, Becca sat back watching those poor children suffering in his hands.
    3. Above all, she was a greedy vulture. She readily agreed, when Pete robbed Henry, as much as he could, and then plotted to elope with her.
    4. She deserves the end she was led to because she betrayed the trust of those two little, innocent souls who loved her.
    5. Peter was never true to her. It was obvious when he tried Peeping at Dani as she started to undress. It was not the poor Miles, but the ghost of Peter that possessed him.
    Finally, both Pete and Rebecca were
    Worse than the Lady in the Lake
