He was probably given daily scenes for what they were going to shoot, just a guess. The slightest detail could be important. Makes you assume they shot this with a linear story focus, starting from the beginning to the end with no jumping around. Very difficult! Very interesting set up and hurdles to try and navigate for shooting a movie like this. Preparation had to be through the roof before they ever started. I am assuming again, storyboards/previsual, extensive location scouting, and availability for a shooting schedule. And all of it, you leave the lead in the dark over the big picture, and you only feed them a piece at a time while you're filming ... if there is a story here worthy of this work, it'll be a big hit.
Definitely. Could come across as a bit gimmicky but that depends on what the plot is like I suppose. Often the difference between a gimmick and a groundbreaking movie is simply how good it is. No doubt we'll get more details on the specifics after it's released!
Well, he could have been given a giant book of what his life was like up until the point the movie started, including with his family. So that would be set and in place. For example in the preview the cop is asking questions about his work and the movies doesn't tell us (in the preview), but McAvoy's character would know, so he should know.
@@bobgruner They must have organised the shoot around this as well, the first ad and the director must have decided they were going to shoot the film chronologically for James to be able to understand and get into his character as the story unveils. Very interesting and stressful to plan the actors reaction. Would have loved to work on this. Have a nice day everyone!
They have to be careful with this gimmick though as there are many things the character knows that the audience does not. For example, he would know what his job was/is and exactly what he did in Lybia, Iraq etc. so, for example, if there are some reveals connecting present and past, the audience may be surprised but McAvoy should not be.
I was thinking the same thing. Given a detailed character background for the person he's playing and daily scenes are set up, then it's on him to proceed. Christopher Guest has been making scriptless movies since the 90s. There's probably more examples before that. This is just Hollywood PR. Like how Fargo is a "true story", except it totally isn't and that's just something they said.
On the conceit that the actor finds out information the same time as the audience, I’m reminded of the anecdote where Dustin Hoffman stayed up for 72 hours to help him get into the mindset of an insomniac, and Laurence Olivier quipped “My dear boy, why don't you try ACTING? It's so much easier"
What confuses me are the scenes were McAvoy's character loses it & gets angry. They must have done extensive preparation to convey unexpected/unscripted violence without actually hurting the other actor (unless he's playing against stunt men he's actually beating up???)
@@twittertwice Not at all. There is no chance in hell that they 'ad libbed' physical violence/contact against another actor. The mere hint of that would lock this film up in litigation that none of us would ever see it. With enough preparation and the right actor (which they clearly have) doing something like this would certainly be difficult but it wouldn't be insurmountable. Now to make it really good, again you have to have the right people in front of and behind the camera to pull it off. The producers and director clearly knew how to orchestrate this. It's interesting that they don't mention if anyone ELSE was in the dark the whole time. If it was only McAvoy then the navigation is much 'easier' as it were because everyone else is 'in" on it and where they fit into it (see Fincher's The Game). Violent scenes could have developed as McAvoy indicated his intentions. "No, no. I think I would try to physically get it out of him." Or maybe the directors want a character to attack him. "Okay James, he's going to come at you now." So they pause filming. Work out choregraph of the encounter and then recommence shooting. McAvoy is physically capable so he'd probably pick up on things pretty quickly (unless it's some elaborate fight stunt from an Xmen movie but clearly that's not what we're going to see here.) No idea how they really planned it but there is no doubt that the fights were choregraphed.

Yeah just a gimmick. A good actor, like he is no doubt, is basically a sociopath who can change emotions in the fly. Reading the script that day or a month before doesn’t really matter. Plus this has been done many times where directors don’t give the actors the script until shooting so it doesn’t leak.
Is a remake of a french film that was made in the same way. The original was terrible, was an amazing casting but a horrible film czcams.com/video/ElmH-cOt7x8/video.html
I kinda feel like they shouldn't have given us the details of the making of the film in the actual trailer and just let it stand on its own. That's the kind of thing I like to find out after I've already watched the movie.
The sequel: "during the filming of this movie, James McAvoy was never given a script, was gagged, tied up, drugged, and thrown into a forest with wild animals and no cellphone or a map"
You're right. They can't predict what he will do or say. But it's possible that they're given a script, and may also be improvising or adjusting their lines accordingly. They're probably also given notes by the director as well, to help them along as they work with McAvoy.
James Mcavoy didn’t have a script, the director wanted his real emotions and had the rest of the cast with a script and James had to answer them truthfully and as he really would.
I really loved seeing actors like Liam Neeson,Chris Hemsworth,Channing Tatum,James McAvoy,Dwayne Johnson,Jason Momoa acting that highlights their performances and versatility, besides their exceptional roles, their well built visuals♥♥♥
I’ve read tons of comments in the past with the format : “ turns out the Actor was doing this, that, & this (usually something crazy) and the Director just happened to be filming.” Looks like the writer must have seen those type of CZcams comments because they’re ACTUALLY doing it in this movie!!!
McAvoy is physically capable so he'd probably pick up on things pretty quickly (unless it's some elaborate fight stunt from an Xmen movie but clearly that's not what we're going to see here.)
No idea how they really planned it but there is no doubt that the fights were choregraphed.
@@BombshellCelluloid this and i have to imagine there were retakes. No movie can be done in one shot so although i like the concept I'm not buying into he didn't know anything
James McAvoy always delivers, this will be an absolute watch for me.
McAvoy is so underrated. I cannot wait to see this.
My first time seeing James McAvoy in a movie was in Wanted and I remember thinking "how the hell does this unknown actor get to star in this action packed movie with Angelina Jolie?"
After watching many of his movies throughout the years, I understand now lol
...because 'Atonement" came out before "Wanted" and that was a critically acclaimed film with lots of Oscar nominations... so he wasn't "unknown' at that time.
@@hollywoodcole4046 true... I guess he was just unknown to me 😄
Took a while before they turned Heavy Rain into an actual movie.
2 of the finest actors of our times together in a film. 🔥 Looking forward to it
James McAvoy is so talented and I am so excited about this movie!
McAvoy's acting in Split is severely underrated.
Glad he uses his actual accent. Never heard sean Connery fake an accent he made the movies adapt to him.
Lol like in highlander where he was a Spanish guy called ramirez
@@olbaprabocse9940 Egyptian
Egyptian, Spanish and then probably a bunch of other thing in between. I grew up in the rural (US) South, but after just a few decades of living elsewhere my accent is mostly gone unless I intentionally put it on. Well, not gone, just the accent of where else I've lived. Ramirez was in Scotland for who knows how long (you couldn't exactly hop on a plane), so it's not surprising he sounded Scottish.
@@mahna_mahna I choose to believe that for some unknown reason the Egyptian was supposed to be pronounced with a Scottish accent.
@@jaroslavbelohlavek2138 Hah! As we don't actually know, that _would_ be a funny line to take.
Maybe he got to Scotland and all the people started copying his accent because *who wouldn't* ??
Wow. 😳 I love James McAvoy. He’s such an amazing actor and because of this I don’t think I’d be able to sit through this film. The raw pain he will show in this film with be so intense.
I will watching this movie. James is outstanding in every movie he is in. It looks great!!!!
I love that James really tries to branch out and work with little indie companies. It's sad to me that people only watch something if there's a famous actor in it, James is really helping ppl out
He doesn't need an Oscar he is AMAZING nothing to prove
Exactly
He's already an amazing actor and now he's doing a movie without seeing the script. You know it's going to be an emotional rollercoaster and this man is going to get some awards for it
Amazing! I love seeing James and the other Scottish actors speaking in their true accent! I'm an American and it is a gorgeous accent, also the investigator man in this was also in the movie Filth, Dougie Gilman 😄 also such great Scottish film 🔥
It sounds like a really lonely RPG session, where everybody else is an NPC
Unless its aired live, he actually knows how everything goes down way before the audience does.
Yeah just a gimmick. A good actor, like he is no doubt, is basically a sociopath who can change emotions in the fly. Reading the script that day or a month before doesn’t really matter. Plus this has been done many times where directors don’t give the actors the script until shooting so it doesn’t leak.
@@codymadison9993 Yeah like for Tom Holland, that's for sure...hahahaha
James McAvoy is on another level, he is reminding me of Daniel Day Lewis, all time greats man.
Man James McAvoy is such a Legendary Actor!
a thriller where the lead is doing improv ...if it works GREAT but if it works we are gonna get a million copycats
Yep!! And serious flops
Well that'll happen with anything successful. Dont see the problem really
One of my favorites actors. And so handsome. Amazing scenery and music...
Definitely an underrated actor...he is on so many levels that it's beyond ridiculous...definitely one of my favorites and there aren't many
The sequel: "during the filming of this movie, James McAvoy was never given a script, was gagged, tied up, drugged, and thrown into a forest with wild animals and no cellphone or a map"
Sounds like a Tuesday
To end the trilogy: James' was given a lobotomy before filming started
But "no animals were hurt in the making of the film,"
right?
That means no one in the movie has script, because they cant predict what McAvoy will say.
Or others have script and McAvoy improvised upon hearing them and caught the drift how/where a particular scene should go.
You're right. They can't predict what he will do or say. But it's possible that they're given a script, and may also be improvising or adjusting their lines accordingly. They're probably also given notes by the director as well, to help them along as they work with McAvoy.
Oh my, this looks so great, his acting is incredible and the speech is beautiful! So worth watching it in English! Can't wait
This is Litterally a masterpiece🙌🙌💖, i love James mcavoy and Claire foy I can’t😁💜
James Mcavoy didn’t have a script, the director wanted his real emotions and had the rest of the cast with a script and James had to answer them truthfully and as he really would.
This is giving me proper prisoner vibes James McAvoy channeling his inner Hugh Jackman
I really loved seeing actors like Liam Neeson,Chris Hemsworth,Channing Tatum,James McAvoy,Dwayne Johnson,Jason Momoa acting that highlights their performances and versatility, besides their exceptional roles, their well built visuals♥♥♥
MacAvoy is a genius. He has such an expressive face!
This is interesting. No script huh?
I’ve read tons of comments in the past with the format : “ turns out the Actor was doing this, that, & this (usually something crazy) and the Director just happened to be filming.” Looks like the writer must have seen those type of CZcams comments because they’re ACTUALLY doing it in this movie!!! We’ve come full circle lol. This is going to be amazing.
It's actually an English remake of a French film. Hope this series is as good as the original.
How timely is this, in a way related to Gabby Petito missing. May she find eternal repose🙏🙏🙏🙏
Now this is what i call a awesome movie. Need to watch this movie.
So, basically, a very expensive LARP for one player.
Prisoners...starring Charles Xavier instead of Logan
I wanna see Last King of Scotland again. That was a great movie.
One of the best actors in several generations!!
I don’t understand how this works with no script. They must give him some sort of general background at least. They can’t just send him in there tits up and expect a legit storyline
This works like life itself, you can have an idea or what do you want your life or what will you do, but literally everything changes in a matter of a second
They didn't say there wasn't a script; there just wasn't a script for James. 😂 He had to react and improvise to what the other actors were saying/doing. I'm sure he also received direction as to what the expected outcome of each scene was before they started shooting. Pretty interesting.
It's improv. You are told the story but everything else is experiential and reactionary.
for everyone confused he wasnt given a script but the other actors were. so basically he made up what he was gunna say on the post like a real person going through this would. he foreal so talented he deserves so much credit he never gets
I didn't care for McAvoy in his earlier career, but he's slowly won me over, over the years. Now I'll watch that man in anything.
Bet you go back and watch Wanted and think, "Damn, he's came a long way"
@@adrianfoster7387 Exactly what I'm saying. Dude had it all along.
The father from Billy Elliott is such a great actor.. and of course James Macavoy is f’ing amazing
And without a doubt he will pull it off. That's what this acting genius can do. James McAvoy all the way!
I'm not easily sold on trailers, but this one arouses my curiosity because of what they tried to do here, and James McAvoy is a great choice for this acting experiment.
McAvoy is just doing what Nigerian filmmakers have been doing fir years. Have actors perform with no script. Come to Africa and we will show you how it's done
Been crushing on James since "Atonement"... and now he gets to speak with his own accent???
... oh my word!!! Fan girl central!!
I was had at James McAvoy and no script. CANT WAIT!
Wow! No script?! This man is amazing! A true actor!
Finally something actually fresh and different. Looks amazing.
Cool concept!! I’m sure James is incredible in this, as he is in everything!
I have enjoyed his past roles and present ones, looking forward to the ones in the future 😀
I have faith in James McAvoy he's a great actor.
Wow! This looks absolutely incredible. I definitely want to see My Son.
Love this actor!!!❤ He is truly talented!!
Outstanding actor. One of Scotland's finest. He would be a pretty cool new Bond i think too.
This is such a cool concept! I’d love to see this!
Every parents worst nightmare.... This is my biggest fear
James is absolutely amazing 👏 😍 ❤
